We get that all the time around here.
I like Yeezys. Yeezy 350s, I mean. They’re a divisive pair of trainers, even in sneakerhead circles, but slide them and see if you don’t change your tune. They feel like walking on clouds, combining both Adidas Boost technology with a tight-knitted upper that feels like your feet were sewn in. Aesthetically, it's what comes to mind for me when the phrase “shoe from the future” comes up. Less gunked-up with needless leather flourishes and more so condensed down the bare essentials, all the while maintaining a one-of-a-kind silhouette and equally iconic decals. In a word, they’re snazzy. In two words, they’re Kanye West.
It seems like every time a new Yeezy skew drops, history repeats itself. The name attached to them runs the headline gamut, conjuring questions like “who the hell would ever wear these,” and, “Kanye has lost his marbles yet again.” The most recent case of this was the Yeezy Foam RNNR, a runner with built-in cheese holes (for the record, I have worn these; you have never worn a more comfortable shoe in your life, holes notwithstanding). So what’s going on here? Lumpy, wallet-burning sneakers with… we’ll say “avant-garde” designs, each one seemingly more unhinged than the last? The answer is creative freedom, something Kanye West cannot operate without. This leads him down strange, strange paths, though I probably don’t need to tell you what that’s led him to. But in 2014, it was his pursuit for creative freedom that resulted in one of the most notorious days in sneakerhead lore. Today, we’re talking about Yeezy. Not Yeezys with an S. Yeezy. Air Yeezy, in fact. Air Yeezy 2 Red Octobers, to be pedantic. From the days when Kanye actually worked with Nike. Red October was the last day.
“You see there’s leaders and there’s followers.”
For how much of a character Kanye West is today, there’s surprisingly little about him that’s new. The cult of personality he developed from 2005-today had certainly metamorphosized him from “pink-ass polos with the f***in’ backpack” to “my greatest pain is that I’ll never see myself perform live,” but

I spent so many years locked in this sanitarium and all for protecting the children from that monster of a man, but now it seems I have fallen into the hands of his creation.
Please get this out so the children will be safe from The Man of A Thousand Faces.
Back then I lived in the small town of Arkham, Massachusetts, there was little I could do at 10 years old other than indulge in my love of TV.
Oh, I love it so much, It's such a shame that it was muscled out by the Internet, I remembered my misspent childhood days just sat there in front of the beautiful box.
Whether I was watching my favourite weekend cartoons or tuning into game shows right after school, you would be hard-pressed to find a day I wasn't in front of the set.
However, I like many other children around the area in which I lived, was forced away from my precious TV at 8:30, the main reason was due to watershed ending.
Now I would argue bordering on straight-up fighting with my mom to let me watch until 10 pm, but I was always told no and that if I kept on watching the TV past that time, the man of a thousand faces would find and kidnap me never to be seen again.
I personally didn't believe in the urban legend but both my parents and even grandparents were adamant of its existence.
I would go to school and feel left out as my friends would tell me of the cool shows that were broadcast past watershed like the outrageous Saturday Night Live or WWF, yet none of them had ever seen the man of a thousand faces.
On the 20th of February, I remember walking to school and seeing a flier stuck to a post, as always the flier was a missing person report, this wasn't uncommon sadly but I had developed a passion for collecting the fliers.
Missing Kelly Rune Disappeared on the 15th of February Last seen watching TV at her dad's house.
I grabbed the flier and shoved it into my pocket to present to my friends at school, I had after all sat next to Kelly all of last year and felt it only right to get her disappearance noticed.
I guess I understood why, a small girl who was known to have an alcoholic dad and had attempted to run away before might not seem like the work of a fairy tale man living in the tv but this felt off.
A few children disappeared from around our town and were usually found departed just outside the industrial estate.

I'm curious to pick your brains on this subject. Cultural sentiments tend to shift as a phenomenon like polyamory becomes more visible. Do you anticipate a 'watershed moment' for poly acceptance in the future? If a major celebrity couple (like Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell, for example) came out as poly, would that change things? Do you suppose we will see more fictional portrayals of poly lifestyles in the years ahead? Sound off and tell me what you think about this and how it will impact the cultural discourse.
