Amid Controversy Over The Washington Redskins Name NFL Votes To Rename Teams

As of now most Americans are aware of the current debate and dispute surrounding the Washington Redskins and the outcry from the Native American People. These people opposed to the name are claiming that the name is offensive, and runs along the lines of blatant racism towards the indigenous American people. The controversy has been raging for years as the owner of the Washington Redskins, Dan Snyder, refuses to change the name. When questioned about the matter by USA Today Mr. Snyder was quoted as saying
>"We'll never change the name, It's that simple. NEVER β you can use caps."
Mr. Snyderβs attorney followed up with this statement:
>βWe care about peopleβs feelings, weβre respectful when anyone is offended, but we have this 80-year name that we love ... we sing Hail to the Redskins every Sunday at the stadium, and we say weβre part of Redskins Nation -- thatβs our vocabulary. Those are terms of honor.β
Roger Goodell, as well as other members of the NFL front office have taken these comments seriously. A spokesman for the NFL has come to us under the curtain of anonymity. Our source reports that the NFL is worried about being associated with and condoning acts that do not equally represent and respect all types of people. During our private interview our source said:
>βDue to Mr. Snyderβs statements regarding the team names the remaining NFL owners, including all but 1, have voted in favor of changing each and every team name, excluding Washington, in the league to better honor the peoplesβ of this land.β
Our source informed us that the one party that voted not to change the team names was the voting members of the Green Bay Packers. The Packers organization is the only team in the league that is owned by the public, which routinely will sell off stock shares allowing owners to vote on team operations. 363,491 different people own and hold a total of 5,017,925 shares of stock. Despite the Shareholders voting at an overwhelming 97% not to change the team name, their vote only officially accounted for one vote against the other thirty-one team owners.
