I am currently in the market for a Volkswagen Golf. This will be my first car, after passing the test at 28 (Male). I had originally wanted a Volkswagen Polo, however a few weeks ago, I found out that I will be having a 2nd child in March next year, so I think I need to go up a class in size. I realise that others would now go for a estate or even SUV, but I would rather keep it as small possible (within reason i.e I do think the Polo would be too small now).
As such, I have been mainly looking at Mark 6 VW Golfs, as they are within budget, etc. I did however have some questions/a need for general advice/questions about Golfs before finding the right one.
- Why are there so many diesel Golf's compared to petrol? I anticipate 5K commuting, 5K personal a year so I don't think a diesel is the best choice? Main driving will be A,B and city roads, limited motorway miles.
- As above, I have been mainly looking at 1.2 and 1.4 TSI petrol engines, usually from 2010 to 2012. How much of a difference in power/performance is there between the 84 BHP and 123 BHP engines? The 84 BHP may be quite sluggish? Obviously this will increase the tax a bit, but I don't really want to be constantly fighting it on the commute (although it would only be me in the car these days).
- Are there any specific engines to avoid? Any particular years that are worse than others?
- Is the 1.2 TSI noticeably more fuel efficient? According to the data, it would seem so? 57.6 MPG vs. 45.6 MPG. Anyone run either of these, any idea how much you actually get?
- Are there any other areas aside from the engine, to check/be concerned about? Are there any other specific questions I should ask the seller/dealer? Any repairs that could cost me a lot of money?
- I have mainly been aiming to get a 'Match' or 'SE' spec. The S looks very basic, and TWIST can also be the same. Is my understanding on this correct? It also seems that only 2011- onward have the nice steering wheel, so mainly been focusing my search on this, but they seem rather desirable!
- I have mainly looking on AT and Motors.co.uk. Is there any Golf specific websites or anywhere else, I might find a good one? any forums/classified, etc?
- Typically speaking, as they are 'older' cars, they have quite a few miles under their belt. I assume the usual rules apply, MOT history, FSH, etc.
- A lot of the cars I see, have quite scuffed alloys, but otherwise look good. How much is it typically to get them looking 'ne
I just slung for one of the old-style all-metal VW bottle openers meaning that my plastic-wrapped metal one will just gather dust.

I have all stock speakers in my car, has anyone had any experience with the sound quality? I'd like to replace all the speakers, and am wondering if there is a kit I can buy. Would I have to install an amp for all the speakers? Or are there some that can be powered by my head unit? Thanks a lot!

Hey guys, so my 2011 Golf has a very simple headlight switch with no auto, but my car does have a sensor that dims my dashboard when it gets dark, forcing me to manually to turn on my headlights so I can see it.
My question is: are there any aftermarket automatic headlight switches that will work with that sensor? Or will I have to go a different route?
I'm looking to do a golf R front bumper conversion on my mk6 golf tdi in the future. If I get aftermarket headlights before the would I have to get new to fit the golf r bumper?

This may be a far shot but I’m looking to purchase OEM rims for my 2012 Golf R. Any ideas for where to look? If anyone is in central FL and has some let me know. I currently have 17”, I’ve always thought 19” looks better, anything to watch out for? Bought the car used and thought I’d wear down the junkets that came with it, now it’s time to replace them.
My car has an issue that there's a gearbox issue and a clutch failure issue and the Mechanic said that if you have to change both it will cost me around £2,000 that's for the gearbox mechatronic unit and also the the clutch however my question is does the clutch is there two parts or 1 parts for him to change and is it a good value because the car is worth 3 1/2 thousand
