A list of puns related to "Vanishing hitchhiker"
Check out my blog all about the urban legend of the vanishing hitchhiker https://www.allthingshorror.online/post/the-vanishing-hitchhiker :)
I picked up Gryla and The Vanishing Hitchhiker for my first Friday the 13th Sixteen92 purchase. I've never done any of the other Friday the 13th orders so I was excited when Gryla caught my eye and I remembered to set an alarm for the sale. TVH has also been a scent on my radar for a while so I snagged that too since I have been slowly amassing a collection of wet, grass/moss, nature atmospheric scents.
Gryla : Frigid cave walls, dense mountain fog, dry branches, rock moss, wild currant, elderberry wine, iron kettle, glittering aurora, dryas flower, black sooted fur
First impressions on cold sniff : Definitely getting some of the sweeter currant, wine, and floral notes. Not picking up much of the other notes - maybe a little of the "fog" ? Reminds me somewhat of Heliophobia in terms of florals but I definitely like the cold sniff of Gryla better than the bottle sniff of Heliophobia.
On skin : Much less like Heliophobia's floral and slowly turning more like Hexennachts Leonine? Almost an orange-y / citrus underlay but still floral and yet slightly sweeter. Also picking up that fog / very very light iron metallic feel. I think I'd describe it is if you served sangria frozen. I definitely like this scent. It's somehow a mix of a bunch of things I like about individual perfumes I own all in one. If I can get my hands on it again it would probably become a part of my permanent rotation.
The Vanishing Hitchhiker : Soaked lace gown, bare feet on red clay, heavy air and rolling thunder, warm raindrops on a cracked windshield, screeching brakes, a flurry of fireflies, and a single puddle on an empty back seat
First impressions on cold sniff : Very much like Supercell. That wet grass and stormy feel really is first on top. If you had me sniff this without knowing it was TVH I probably would have guessed it was Supercell. It feels less grassy than Supercell though. Not getting many other notes.
On skin : Supercell meets The Bottling Room. Less grassy, more electric. I put on some Supercell to do a side by side comparison and Supercell smells oddly off / not like itself now that I've been smelling TVH. Maybe because it's so many similar notes I'm now noseblind to Supercell? Though again Supercell now smells.... more floral?? There's some under note that I'm getting that is slightly sour, slightly floral - maybe like if you dipped Supercell in baby powder? In comparison The Vanishing Hitchhiker side by side smells like what I'd want Superc
... keep reading on reddit โกHi all! I got these in the mail yesterday and decided to at least let them rest overnight before reviewing them (a rarity for me). Here's my thoughts:
The Vanishing Hitchhiker (Soaked lace gown, bare feet on red clay, heavy air and rolling thunder, warm raindrops on a cracked windshield, screeching brakes, a flurry of fireflies, and a single puddle on an empty back seat) This one smells like a much more somber version of Supercell ( it's definitely less green and humid, but still contains that sort of crackling density of a storm) with a sprinkling of E Lucevan Le Stelle's earth and stone notes. To me it smells like a heavy downpour starting and lots of rich mineral clay (similar to the clay note in Only Children Weep but without all of the sweetness of the rest of the scent). There is definitely a car smell to the whole thing, like old leather car seats and a tiny hint of oil/rubber from what I assume is the "screeching brakes". The image the scent is trying to capture definitely comes across, which I always appreciate. This one is pretty cool!
Party at the Moon Tower (White cupcakes with popping candy frosting, spiked punch, faded sunscreen, lake breeze, a distant Summer bonfire) Oh this one is so nice! It reminds me of going out to the lake during the summer when I was a child, that comforting scent of muddy lake water and the occasional welcome breeze that cuts the heat. The faded sunscreen note is spot on, like the one in Boardwalk but with some skin musk and dirtiness from the lake. There is some underlying sweetness from the cupcakes and spiked punch, but that's underneath all of the lakey sunscreeny goodness, just a table of treats a few feet away while you sit on the dock. I would say the punch is the stronger of the two, but it's a perfect slightly boozy punch scent. The bonfire note is very subdued, just the faintest whisper in the background - it's not an obvious smoke note, but it does add a little woody thread somewhere underneath everything.
Hereโs a Photo of the damage so you can see what I mean. Iโm not sure how the damage occurred, it was fine when I put it in my bag but when I took it out this had happened.
Because of where itโs broken I canโt press the bottle to my skin to use the perfume, I donโt have any spare bottles either... does anybody know where I can get an bottle/vial similar to what S92 use that I can transfer the scent into?
I was thinking of contacting them to see if I could get an empty bottle but I donโt want to be a bother and itโs not exactly their fault either, it was fine when I got it, it wouldnโt be right to waste their time.
Edit: I also cannot take it home now as due to the danage the bottle now leaks. I am so frustrated with myself as this was the perfume I was looking forward to the most from the Friday the 13th collection.
I was driving home late one night when I noticed a woman stranded by the side of the road. Feeling generous, I pulled over and offered her a ride.
"Going far?" I asked. She gave me her address but didn't say much else. I could tell she'd been crying so thought it best to let her be. It wasn't until we came up to Blind Man's bend that she made another noise; a low, miserable crying sound. She then said "This is where I died."
"That's fucking creepy." I replied, but when I looked in her direction she was gone. Vanished. Only her backpack remained.
Not sure what else to do I drove back the way I had come. Sure enough she's standing in the same spot, waiting for a ride.
"Excuse me," I say, winding down my window. "Would you like a ride or not?"
She looks surprised to see me but doesn't speak.
"You left your bag in my car, did you know that?"
At this she opens her mouth, no words come out, just a thick stream of blood and, I presume, some broken teeth and bone.
"You're supposed to take my backpack to the address I gave you." She says once the blood has stopped.
"Do I look like a delivery service to you?"
"Well, no. It's just-"
"It's just nothing." By this point I was pretty irritated at being jerked around, so I chucked her bag at her. It fell open on the road revealing the contents to be some old banana skins and a few chocoloate wrappers.
"That's your special delivery?" I laugh at her, "You know what, the next time someone tries to do you a favour; don't accept. You don't deserve it. Oh, and I know who you are. The old Johnson kid, right? Died on your wedding day in a horrific car accident. Well you should probably know that the address you gave is useless. Your family moved away years ago. Maybe they were tired of all the backpacks full of banana skins people kept giving them."
Ever since that night no one has seen the vanishing hitchhiker again.

This incident happened with me in 2013 which left me terrified for weeks. It was in mid May, me and my cousin were driving back to Rohini via Delhi Cantt(India). area. It was late in the night so the traffic was light and as we were heading back from a party, our moods were very light and chirpy.
So it was around 11.30 p.m., as we were crossing from Delhi Cantt. area my brother saw a lady asking for lift, and the face felt familiar to him. We stopped and he remembered it was his batch mate from his medical school. My brother got out of the car and she came running to us. She immediately recognized my brother and as she was someone familiar to him, he decided to give her the lift. We continued driving and the batch mate and my brother continued with their catching up.
The weird thing was she was not telling much about herself, but knew everything about my brother, what he was doing, where he was. I was bored as most of their conversation involved things which did not interest me so I did not even look at her or my brother after exchanging initial pleasantries. Almost after half an hour, we reached the place where she wanted to go, it was all deserted as it was midnight already. My brother and I were fully focused on the route and we could hear her telling us directions, and then she suddenly screamed (yes, she shouted) to stop. My brother immediately pressed the brake thinking something was wrong. He looked back to inquire and there was no one.
He switched on the lights and started checking the back seat. Windows and doors were shut, there was absolutely no one. The girl and her bag were all missing. We both got out of the car and the place we were in, was a crematorium. We were terrified that for few minutes we could not understand that what just happened. After that how we got out of the area and reached home was all a history.
Next day, my brother investigated about this batch-mate and he got to know that she committed suicide a year back and she lived in Delhi Cantt. area and her body was cremated in that crematorium where she took us. When he told me about this, we couldn't sleep for days.

My father has always been especially sensitive to paranormal events. Although he would never say he fully believes in ghosts, after what heโs seen, it would be impossible not to think they might really exist. This is one of his ghost stories that especially scared me when I was younger. Even now, I love to listen to him tell it, and Iโll do my best to tell it the way he does. From this point on, it will be first person from his point of view. (Also, I did some research to try and find the exact spot online, but couldnโt find anything; Iโll keep looking and post anything I find.) Enjoy.
When I was about 26, I had a job that was about 30 minute drive from downtown, where I lived in my apartment. It was a beautiful drive, with winding roads through a wooded area. It went past old houses and farms; it was green, lush and picturesque. There was also a very old cemetery, huge, that I drove past. It took a good two minutes going about 50 miles an hour to get through the whole thing. It was ancient and actually pretty interesting, but I never paid much attention to it. Normally, I would get off of work about 5 and be home between 5:30 and 6. One night though, I stayed late because it was one of my co-workers birthdays. It was about 9 when I left the office, and I started my drive home. When turned the bend that brought me past the border of the cemetery, I could see someone standing by the side of the road up ahead. Normally, I wasnโt one to pick up strangers in the dead of night out in the middle of nowhere, but there was something some voice inside my head compelling me to stop. So I did. As I got closer, I could make out that the person standing there was a young girl, maybe 12 or 13. She was beautiful, and looked very sad as I pulled over and rolled down my window. The girl was wearing a white dress.. it looked old, probably from the early 1900s. Her hair was dark, not quite black, and had been pulled back, although it was falling out and a few strands fell in front of her face. Her skin was pale, and her eyes dark, overall, giving her a very haunted look. I asked if I could help her, and what happened next is slightly fuzzy. I donโt remember her crossing in front of the car, or her opening the door, but suddenly, she was in the passenger side, sitting next to me. I started driving, asking her questions. What was her name, what had happened to her, did she need help, where did she live? All the while, she looked out the window and said nothing. I kept asking

This happened years ago, but the memory is clear.
After attending a wedding dinner, my friend drove me home. It was late at night.
We saw an old lady walking by the road side. She was walking alone holding an umbrella. Being as kind as he always is, he stopped and asked the old lady if she needed a ride.
The old lady said she was heading to the bridge just few miles ahead. My friend asked her to hop in and she went into the backseat of the car. The we continued to drive.
Few minutes later, the weight of the car suddenly lifted. He was driving an old sedan, so if someone gets in the car it weighed down, if someone get off, itโs lifted.
I looked behind and the lady has vanished!! Out of thin air! Mind you, the car was still moving when it happened.
However, the old ladyโs umbrella was still at the backseat. I looked at my friend, and he too knew what happened. But we didnโt dare to say a word. I just told him the umbrella was still there.
When we reached the bridge, I put the umbrella on the floor and we drove home. We never discussed a word about it since.

In 1975, 18-year old Mona Blades was living in Hamilton, New Zealand with her sister, brother-in-law, and baby niece. On Saturday, May 31, Mona decided she wanted to visit the rest of her family in Hastings for the long holiday weekend and surprise her nephew for his first birthday. Since it was a four-hour, 300-kilometer trip, Mona would have to hitchhike her way there, so her brother-in-law dropped her off on State Highway 1 to hitch a ride. However, Mona never arrived in Hastings and since her family had no idea she was coming, it would be several days before anyone noticed she was missing.
After Monaโs disappearance garnered publicity, a truck driver came forward who remembered seeing her climb into an orange Datsun 120Y station wagon at around 10:00 AM in the town of Taupo, located about halfway between Hamilton and Hastings. Later that morning, a fencing contractor was driving on Matea Road, a dirt road located next to State Highway 5, over 50 kilometers southeast of Taupo. He was about 200 meters from the highway when he passed by an orange Datsun station wagon parked by the side of the road. He remembered seeing a young woman matching Monaโs description in the back seat and a large, balding middle-aged man behind the wheel. A short time later, the contractor drove by this spot again and while the Datsun was still parked there, it was empty. Over the past four decades, there have been a number of different suspectsโฆ
-John Freeman: two weeks after Mona went missing, on the very same day police made their first public announcement about the orange Datsun station wagon, Freeman shot and wounded a student at St. Cuthbertโs College in Auckland before committing suicide. It turned out Freeman had rented an orange Datsun on the same weekend Mona went missing
-Charlie Hughes: Most individuals in New Zealand who owned an orange Datsun were interviewed by police and provided alibis, but Hughes had a difficult time accounting for his whereabouts on May 31. He worked for a house removal company in Hamilton, drove an orange Datsun as his company vehicle, and there were also sufficient kilometers on his odometer to cover a trip from Hamilton to Matea Road and back. In 2005, Hughes was re-interviewed by police and voluntarily submitted a DNA sample. He has always maintained his innocence and publicly expressed his frustration about being considered a suspect
-Mervyn Derrick Hinton: Hinton was a former traffic officer who once owned a house in Kawerau. In Janua

"Look at that. Twelve thousand seats, and all that is going on are four groups of Lanaktallan playing video games by using their high speed ansible links," she grumped, pointing at first one group of a dozen and then another group of four.
"They're playing a 4X galactic domination game with sixty-eight still active players after starting with four hundred," Speaks smiled, pointing at the first group. "Those ones are robbing a bank in a co-op crime simulator," he said, pointing at the second group, "Those are replaying the Black Horizon Campaign of the Clownface Nebula Conflict," pointing at the third group. He pointed at the fourth group that was pantomiming playing musical instruments. "Those six have formed a band and are touring dive bars on Mars."
Dreams sighed and petted Mr. Rings, who was busy peeling apart a puzzle treat by twisting the shell three times until it clicked and removing the third shell layer.
"Has this ever happened before?" she asked.
Speaks nodded. "A few times. Very few. Diamond Dan the Man, ruler of The Ice Bound Fjords on Terra, when he was impeached, gave a speech that ended with 'so long, suckers!' right before he used a jetpack to fly off through the stained glass ceiling and escape in a hovercraft flying a banner that read "U SUK!"."
Speaks snickered.
"He was never seen again, robbed the treasury of hundreds of trillions of Icegeld, stole nearly a half ton of gold, had trillions of dollars in bearer bonds in his pockets, stole copyrights and trademarks and put them in his name, and moved thousands of patents to his name. Rumor says he's still out there somewhere, on a gold throne, eagerly awaiting any contested election in the Ice Bound FJords. He's considered a IBF folk hero," Speaks said.
"Gee, thanks for that," Dreams said. She looked at the four Lanaktallan, who looked completely ridiculous pantomiming stuffing stuff in bags, shooting weapons, or dragging something away. "They don't even care that

I will break it down into three sections, one dedicated to each woman. At the time of his conviction, he was considered the oldest suspected serial killer (he has never been charged in two of the cases.) Due to the gap in time between the murder and his arrest, this post will be slightly out of chronological order.
Mary Elizabeth Horton Vail
Mary Horton married Felix Vail in July 1961. In 1962, Mary gave birth to a baby boy, and he was named after his father. (He will be referred to as Billy in this post.) Shortly after Billy's birth, Mary told her family the marriage was a mistake and she wanted to leave Felix. She changed her mind about leaving him, but just two months later she was dead.
According to Felix, on October 28, 1962, he and Mary were running trotlines at night on the Calcasieu River and she fell out of the boat when he swerved to avoid a stump. He was unable to save her. Her body was found two days later with bruises on her head and neck and a scarf in her mouth. At the time of her death, Mary was just 22 years old and was pregnant with her second child.
Her death was initially ruled an accident, but authorities were suspicious of Felix's story for a number of reasons. The Charley Project states that not only was the portion of the river they were on not suitable for trotlines, but the trotlines had been left in his truck. Mary was also afraid of water, and Felix had traveled several miles downriver to allegedly get help, which would have wasted valuable time. Felix had two life insurance policies totaling $150,000 on Mary. (That would be about half a million in today's money.) One life insurance policy was taken out and paid in full shortly before Mary's death, around the same time she was telling family she had doubts about their marriage. Suspicions about Mary's death prevented him from collecting the full amount.
Felix was eventually arrested on murder charges, and the case was brought before a grand jury in January 1963 - just months after Mary's death. However, the charges were suddenly dropped and the case was closed before he could be indicted. The case would never make it to court and Felix was a free man for another fifty years.
On May 17, 2013, he was arrested for Mary's murder again. Photos of Mary's body when it was found had been re-examined, and a former neighbor of Felix'

If you dont know about the Kelly Cahill abduction, watch this video:
Kelly Cahill abduction recreation
TLDR: She was in a car with her husband and they saw a UFO above a field. They stopped the car to have a look. Another car (3 occupants) further down the road did the same thing. As they were looking, 7 beings (tall, black, with red eyes) appeared underneath the ufo. Half of them floated towards her and her husband and the other half towards the other group. She started screaming that they had no souls and was knocked to the ground.
Here is an interview with her in which she describes that for about 5 to 10 months after the abduction, she has experienced strange things in her house. Several times she was sleeping and felt a pressure on her chest, and upon opening her eyes saw the same kind of being right in front of her face. Then it quickly vanished.
Heres the interesting part (the reason i made this topic):
This abduction appears have actually happened as an objective event (2 groups of independent witnesses (see interview), all the usual abduction scars, physical traces on the ground), but there are also sleep paralysis events in which the being that was seen matches the ones seen during the objective event. It looks like sleep paralysis may actually be the same as the "hitchhiker effect" in which the beings follow the subject.
But how do they follow? Could it be that these beings actually exist in a part of reality that our brains categorize as "not real/not relevant" (dreams)? Are UFOs somehow traveling from this "not real" state into our waking reality?

A sphere of light surrounded part of the nobleโs section. The mage had cast a barrier of some sort, holding off the chainlings that were attempting to attack the imperial. Judging by his power, the mage could probably take a dozen chainlings alone, even wild ones. However, his focus was to protect one person and one alone. Meanwhile, the nobles were doing a pretty good job themselvesโslashing down chainlings with the ease an awakened would defeat a rather strong guardian. However, for every chainling that was destroyed, three more seemed to appear, most continuing to focus their attention on the overseer.
โThere are just pups,โ the Star told Dallion. โBut thereโs a few hundred of them. In fact, thereโs just enough to let the people have the illusion of hope. Itโs much more entertaining that way,โ the Star winked.
โYouโre destroying a city just for fun?โ Dallion asked, the thought making him physically sick.
โFeeling unwell?โ The Star laughed. โToo much empathy tends to do that. And yes, itโs partially for fun. Youโve only been here a year, so youโve no idea how boring things get. Still, Iโm not the one to blame. Arthurows begged for this. Even before I got involved, he was seeking out ways to join the cult and obtain power. He had one wish. Well, thatโs a lieโhe had a lot, but it all boiled down to one: make the nobles pay. In a way, they were the cause of their own downfall.โ
The explanation sounded reasonable. One could see how the Star was acting as divine punishment. After all, they too watched awakened fight each other for amusement. However, beneath the apparent logic was a layer of lies Dallion could see all too well thanks to his music skills.
โYou donโt believe a word Iโm saying, do you?โ Arthurows said, amused. โThatโll be really interesting. Watching you grow further will be exciting.โ
That, too, was a lie. Dallion could feel the hatred oozing from the Starโs new form. The only reason he hadnโt attacked him was, most likely,

But I also wanted to share these stories for another reason, namely ageism in the true crime community, which is something I have never seen explicitly addressed.
At this point many people have heard of the term โmissing white woman syndrome,โ a phenomenon in which the media latches on the cases of only missing white women, at the expense of everyone else. However, it is a little more complex than just being white and female. The women who get the most attention are almost always at least middle class, educated or otherwise upwardly mobile, traditionally attractive, and young. This narrative allows the cases of older individuals, as well as other groups, to be pushed aside and deemed not interesting enough to be featured in the media which is truly tragic. When asked why some cases receive massive attention while others are entirely ignored, Beth Karas, attorney, legal analyst, and TV reporter said it best when she explained, โwe [the media] have an obsession with crime...we also have an obsession with youth and beauty.โ
Another reason older individuals are not often discussed, at least in my opinion, is because there is a high likelihood that some of these people simply wandered away and succumbed to the elements, but this is not an excuse to forget about these missing people. After all, the elderly are not the only people who wander away or get otherwise confused and perish at the hands of nature. This is the theory for many missing people who still get massive attention in the media and online such as Maura Murray or Asha Degree.
The third and final thing that I would like to address is the blatant ageism and disrespect that I have seen in this very community when someone highlights the cases of elderly individuals. It was actually some of this feedback on my own pieces which made me realize the need for a piece like this one. I once had a post reported by a reader because my write up on a missing 86 year old man with dementia was โnot a mysteryโ even though his body was not (and still has not) been recovered. One commenter called the write up โlow effortโ and another said that there is โno mysteryโ when an old person goes missing, and a third said that his case was โnot good content.โ I think it is imperative that we remember as we read about real peopleโs stories that missi

Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
