A list of puns related to "Vagus nerve"
Everything I read gives tips to stimulate the vagus nerve. And, they've all been useful to me when dealing with bouts of adrenaline, tachycardia and anxiety.
But my vagus nerve is EASILY stimulated. If I'm hot, if I'm standing too long, having sex, etc. Then my heart rate plummets (see previous post, sorry for over-posting!) and I get the faint feeling. It really worries me reading about high vagal tone and heart block.
Anyone experienced with the vagus nerve have any help for me?
Does anyone here suffers from vagus nerve sensitivity, meaning that if you do some sort of large vagal stimulation such as:
- After running
- Sexual activity
- Lying on the back fast after big meal
- Big meals ( and spicy meals)
- Cold drinks ( or if i am very cold in general )
- Pressure on stomach specific places ( for me solarplexus area)
- Inceased abdominal pressure
- Eating probiotics
- Very hungry
You get weird sensation and heart palpatations. I have myself got checked out by two cardiologist which found a perfectly normal heart.
Has anyone similar experiences and can explain why this has happend and what to do about it?
I feel my 2 year costo battle is shifting from right side to left side. From sternum to neck and upperback. My entire upperbody hurts. But lately my throat muscles, jaw muscles are very tight. I can't say they hurt but the tightness is so uncomfy. Ive seen an orthopedic surgeon lately and he did a bonescan and told me I don't have costo cause he can't see any inflammation. Which is just bs cause I feel my sternum and upper chest is inflamed. So he has made me very insecure. He says it might be fybromyalgia. But I saw a rheumatologist last year and he did some blood work and never mentioned fybromyalgia. He just said you don't have rheumatoid artritis or anything related.
So now in stuck with doctors telling me it's prob stress. But it's not. I do get stressed because I feel tight and inflamed all the time. But I don't have any stress at the moment. Not financially, not family related, not work related. Life is actually going OK. I've had surgery for severe endometriosis and I do feel better. More energy. But costo wise I'm not better at all.
My neck, shoulders, rhomboids.. Its just all painful or inflamed. But it has shifted mostly to my throat and frontal neck. I've noticed only a oxazepam helps. Ibuprofen does nothing. A muscle relaxer does help. But hell I can't take those for the rest of my life!
I also have it at its worst when I've slept crappy and moved around a lot in my bed. I somehow also think it's my pillow or bed that's making things worse. The frontal throat muscle tightness is causing me shortness of breath. Everything pulls. Like I've had a neck lift that went wrong. And it pulls the skin of my sternum and breathing becomes difficult.
Has anyone ever heard about vagus nerve irritation or damage? Someone I spoke to who suffers endometriosis, like me. Said she has the same symptoms but has vagus nerve damage. I looked up the symptoms of vagus nerve problems and they are so much alike. Apparantly throwing up wildly can make this nerve go crazy. I threw up in hospital for 3 days after my surgery. She mentioned my nerve could be irritated because of this. It sounded a bit weird to me. So again, I googled it. And yes I found that throwing up can get this nerve to act out. I also have epilepsy, so already a sensitive nervous system. I wonder.
I suffered severe panic attacks after the general anesthesia. Had no control whatsoever. She mentioned this is all vagus nerve related. The vagus nerve regulates breathing, diaphragm, and influences ches

I tried finding an answer and failed!
Does anyone know if there is a relationship between histamine and vagus nerve? I seem to have extremely overstimulated / dysfunctioning vagus nerve after histamine consumption. Why would this happen?
Symptoms is heart palpitations from vagus nerve stimulation. Cardiologist tested my heart and there is no issue. I do however seem to get a wandering pacemaker ( benign condition) which is usually triggered by histamine which I think causes vagus nerve dysfunction.
Does anyone have any idea or suggestions to this?
There have been many instances where I get super dizzy and sweaty and almost pass out by things that trigger the vagus nerve (that have never occurred before) & I was recently diagnosed with Gastroparesis which may be a connection..
Hey yβall! Iβm about to get a VNS implant but Iβm also wanting to go into radiography. Iβve applied to a radiography program but I donβt have my neurosurgeon consultation before I know whether I got in so I canβt really ask him about it before then. Since VNS is a little less popular than a pacemaker, which is sort of the same thing in terms of radiation and MRIs and stuff, I was wondering if anyone would know if I would be able to be a radiographer with a VNS? I could wait till my consultation to ask but Iβm just wondering if anyone knows
My symptoms were headache with high heartbeat, anxiety etc
I have this issue where if i eat sugar, probotics, beer or high histamine foods such as saurkraut, overripe bananas, tofu. I have this period of extreme vagus nerve sensitivity where if do some sort of vagus nerve stimulation ( drink cold water, lie on left side, bend over, or just after excersise) i get these heart palpations. I have been checked out by cardiologist and is in good heart health. I can also feel sometimes this feeling in my throat ( that is not a extrasystole).
Have anyone experienced the same? What could this be?
Has anyone else tried to stimulate the vagus nerve when you feel symptoms coming on?
I have pots-like / dysautonomia symptoms and occasionally stimulating my vagus nerve by closing my eyes and pressing my palms softly into my eye lids until I see flashes. By doing this, Iβve noticed that my symptoms will subside for a bit or at least be less fierce than they were right before I stimulated it.
Please let me know if anyone has similar experiences or has heard anything of this!
For those of you whoβve gotten the vagus nerve implant: have you seen success regarding mood, affect, enjoyment, energy levels, etc?
Has anyone here had a Vagus Nerve Stimulator implanted and used an MAOI concurrently? If so, did you notice any synergism and enhanced efficacy?
Hey all!
Been doing cold showers everyday since July, and since November I've done an ice bath everyday. I have them at 49-54ΒΊF, and I stay in for 4 minutes breathing extremely slow. I thought I read you only need to stay in for 3-4 minutes for maximum health benefits, and anytime after that is more just fortitude in the cold.
I had a lot of trauma in my past, and WHB and ice baths have done wonders for my flight-fight responses and general ease. So what's a good amount of time to bathe to address trauma, the CNS, and the vagus nerve? That's my primary goal.
Thank you.
So I am 36/M and diagnosed with general dysautonomia, fibromyalgia, cfs, anxiety, depression, and mild sensory neuropathy.
A few months ago I started taking Philips Colon Health probiotic and to my amazement, it helped with the heart rate issues, fatigue, post exertional fatigue, and just generally seemed to calm my nerves. Probiotics seem to have effects on the nervous system through the vagus nerve and this seems to be linked with various nervous system disorders and mental health disorders.
Unfortunately, this probiotic and some others cause me too many GI issues to keep taking.
Anyone have experience with things that affect vagus nerve tone and it helped you? If so, what was it?
Edit: I forgot to mention I have tinnitus and that almost went completely away while taking the probiotic.
S boulardii update and vague nerve issue?
Hello all. About a week on s boulardii, I worked up to a full capsule from half (klaire labs). While it has given me the first solid stools Iβve had in idk how long (Iβve suffered from chronic diarrhea), it seems like Iβm suffering from vagus nerve sensitivity. When I have to go to the bathroom, I instantly break out into a cold sweat, get intense brain fog, heart pounding, palms sweating and have such intense anxiety I feel like I need to run from wherever I am. Then, when I finally use the bathroom, it takes maybe five minutes and I feel better than I have all day. Anybody else experience anything similar? Also been having some pressure around belly button area; above and below. Curious to hear what you guys think. Oh, also found that if I take s boulardii before bed it seems to disrupt my sleep. Took it in late afternoon yesterday and slept better.

Hoping someone has some ideas. 12 years ago I was in a bad car accident. At the time, was diagnosed with whiplash and occipital neuralgia. Still have daily symptoms.
Two months ago, suddenly, I had shooting pains on the left side of my head behind my ear. CAT scan said it wasn't vascular, assumption was nerve inflammation and I was told to take Tylenol and it would calm down. It hasn't. Additionally, since it's bugging me, I've been massaging the area and my neck and throat.
Separately (or so I thought) I've had odd episodes over the last two years of vasovagal syncope, and also a sensation of heart palpitations. Doctor thought the palpitations were stress-induced, so I've been working on stress reduction. The syncope seemed related to bowel irritation that was diet related. Last week both symptoms flared like crazy. I'm having dizzy episodes, fluttering/gurgling/thumping sensations in my heart, chest tightness and short of breath.
Preliminary ER testing says my heart seems fine, referral has been put through to cardiology - except my "urgent referral" has resulted in an appointment in February. Thanks, Canada. Meanwhile the symptoms are interfering with everything in my life, and the anxiety is real when your heart rate feels all messed up.
Spoke with the doctor today by phone, and I asked if Vagus nerve could be implicated in my heart rhythm problems. He tells me he doesn't know, but that cardiology might, and that there's a way to stimulate your Vagus nerve using massage - in the exact same area I've been digging my fingers into every couple of hours for the last few months!!
Since my doc doesn't know, and has told me I need to wait for cardiology to figure it out, I thought I'd ask here. Is it possible that I've accidentally flared up my Vagus nerve, and if so, what the heck do I do? Everything I've looked up talks about stimulating the nerve... Which is the opposite of what I should do?
Any guidance would be appreciated, thanks so much.
Edit: Iβm sure the implants are legit, I guess I was asking more about vagus nerve exercises etc, do they have any effect
Hello.
Due to an undiagnosed health problem that I have been suffering from for 4 years, I decided to try a tvns and bought this https://www.parasym.co/.
To my surprise, a 1' session with the device at 200micros and 20hz gives me a sympathetic response hours later (nervousness, excitement). I have not found anyone who has had something similar happen to him. I am surprised because I understand that this type of device is for just the opposite, to activate the parasympathetic. Does this make any sense?
Now my focus is on looking for an explanation to this as it may be a door to find the basis of my health problem.
I would appreciate any answers you can give me!
Thank you very much!
Hi All.
I've seen a few comments about the above and wondering if anyone has had this confirmed as a connection for PVCs?.
I've just been diagnosed with Bigeminy and waiting for another holter but I've had stomach issues for years. Been on PPIs for years and my palpitations feel as if they are coming from my stomach. My Cardiologist seemed to dismiss the stomach idea but it seems common?
Any advice would be appreciated π
So I've been taking CBD oil this past month and I'll admit, for once, I feel normal. I can eat more than usual, it's not perfect, but it's a step toward a better life. I'd recommend CBD if you think your GP is related to vagus nerve damage. I read a study that said CBD may promote vagus nerve function and healing. Here we are a month later, I'm pretty sure it's working.
So to give a little background, I(22m) grew up rough housing a lot. I wrestled in high school, did bjj when I was in elementary, grew up during the WWE era, and lets just say my friends and I were always throwing each other around. I never sustained any severe neck injuries but I had lots of stiff neck problems growing up. Mostly after being in a headlock for about 20 minutes because "tapping is for pussies."
None the less, this life I lived might've caused some vagus nerve damage, unknown to me back then.
Here's some symptoms with my stomach; when I was diagnosed with GERD back in 2018, I was given omeprazole. One thing I noticed was how bad my neck was hurting while I was taking the meds. It was so bad I couldn't wear over the ear headphones while gaming. I had to stop gaming to lay to down because my neck was so sore. It was so weird to me back then, but I think it was related to my vagus nerve.
My neck hasn't bothered me too much since then, it's been only my stomach. But now that I'm taking CBD, my neck is a little sore again but my stomach is bothering me less. I'll take a tiny sore neck over all the bullshit that comes with GP. Whether this new neck pain is from vagus nerve stimulation, honestly I don't know. I'm not doctor. But one thing is certain; I'm eating again without feeling clogged. It's a step toward what I remember "normal" to be. As sad as it is to say, I think I've almost forgotten how good it felt.
After a few years, you lose hope that things will return to normal. But for once, that hope is returning. I've lived in a depressive slump for far too long. It's tiring, honestly. Even now that I'm feeling better, my mind is still clouded by negativity. GP just wears you down. It's hard to shake the mindset it instills upon you.
So yeah, that's my two cents. I'm sure some of you have recommended CBD, I've also seen marijuana be recommended as well. I abuse mary too much, so I plan to stay divorced from her. If you grew up similar to me; lots of rough housing, martial arts, etc... Try CBD. Specifically if you've had neck pain as a gastric symptom.
Wish you all the best
... keep reading on reddit β‘I came across a vagus nerve "reset" exercise that is super easy and involves almost no effort. You can do it lying down and there is no deep breathing.
The exercise is:
A demo is at https://youtu.be/-S8KT7w4uaA?t=23
I love this because I have trouble with deep breathing exercises (they are a ptsd trigger) and I have never found anything easier. Just a note, it may not be a great option for anyone who has trouble with fatigue or nausea from eye movements.
Psoas is a pair of muscles from the lumbar spine through the groin on either side(it is also called the muscle of the soul)
Vagus Nerve: is the tenth cranial nerve or CN X, and interfaces with the parasympathetic control of the heart, lungs, and digestive tract.
Take my word for it, we gotta dive deeper into these 2 for SR.
I have been reading about these everywhere and every person claims that their urges became 0, their childhood trauma/abuse healed, anxiety healed, self esteem healed, depression healed.
When I first read about it, I read that people who commit brave or courageous actions were found to have a strong psoas and they were more risk taking or adventurous, while people with weak psoas were cowards, timid, lacked self discipline.
For vagus nerve, I read that this is where all of our traumas and their effects are stored from childhood, abuse that even we dont realize was abuse is stored here and all this needs to be released.
So if anyone here has any knowledge of any exercises or techniques or more importantly a guided/comprehensive schedule on what to do to heal either psoas or vagus nerve, then please come forward.
The only post regarding psoas on this subreddit had a comment where a link was provided for psoas, but that link doesn't work anymore.
What vagus nerve symptoms are people suffering with? My vagus nerve feels really tight and causing me gastritis symptoms, wave jittery feeling in body and all the nerves on my face and top of head are really noticeable as there buzzing.
Also people who had adrenaline rushes have they got thereβs back? As I was stuck in fight or flight mode for 3 months I canβt get back so when Iβm running and Iβm calling down itβs taking ages.
I got a lot of relief from chronic disassociation after I learned something called The Basic Exercise in polyvagal theory.
I saw something recently about how the reason people TS is it stimulates the vagus nerve right behind the front teeth. the vagus nerve releases dopamine and serotonin. however, I donβt feel like thatβs where the βgood feelingβ comes from β itβs way further back in my mouth, where my palate gets higher. I feel like I must not be alone in this or else people would only stick a small portion of their thumb into their mouth. so I guess my question to all of you isβ¦ is the pleasurable feeling behind your front teeth, or somewhere else in your mouth?
Iβve recently learned about the vagus nerve in therapy. It gets stimulated when we sing or hum because it lives in our throat.
Scientists think it plays into our ability to socialize because it connects to our heart, gut, and facial expressions.
My therapist also told me that people who have a strong connection to their vagus nerve (i.e. singers) are highly resilient. So if you have ever felt like singing helped you get through hard times - thereβs a scientific reason for that!
Hi. My appendix burst when I was three years old. I am now 51 years old. My entire life, everything I ate lead to a bowl movement which would leave my entire spine in pain, along with weakness throughout my body and a whole host of other symptoms. Through the years, doctors thought I had every autoimmune disease under the sun only for tests to come back inconclusive but every test for inflammation came back high. It was finally discovered a few months that I have SIBO and safe to say I've had it since my appendix burst because that is when I began having these symptoms. I now understand that all of the symptoms were due to inflammation and complete dysregulation of my vagus nerve. MRI shows I have a ton of inflammation in my spine and the inflammation has eroded my spine significantly. For years I have done the usual (super clean diet, turmeric, etc). to reduce inflammation. I lay on an ice mat every day for my spine and it helps. I've only been able to get myself to do an ice bath once.
Everyone here knows so much so I would like to put this out in case anyone has any suggestions of therapies, supplements, anything I can try. My spine doctor said that basically the inflammatory response was turned "on" years ago, has been at a super high level all these years, and they don't know how to turn it down or off other than prednisone which cannot be taken for too long.
For those of you who Also have depression, anxiety, anhedonia or anything else affecting mental health AND whoβve gotten the VNS surgery: have you noticed any positive changes in mood?

Has anyone tries vagus nerve stimulation to decrease GERD/LPR symptoms?
