Hello all,
So as sad as it is to make this post, I've decided to declaim Austria. Those who are active on Discord may well have seen this coming. Essentially, events throughout Europe this season have more or less killed the suspension of disbelief which I once held, to the point where Austria is no longer a fun nor meaningful claim for me to play. The proof is that I haven't found the motivation to post in over two weeks :/
I don't think that it would be helpful or mature for me to go into the issue any further in such a public manner, except to say that I've learnt my lessons and have my fingers crossed for next season, which I'm very much looking forward to playing, as mighty Argentina!
While I cannot commit myself to the final weeks of high stakes roleplay in Europe, I still want to enjoy what's left of the season with a claim that requires somewhat less time and energy, and so I'm claiming the UNHCR (big thanks to the mods for having green-lighted my request). As the UNHCR, I plan to negotiate and implement emergency relief action in Southeast Asia, the Korean Peninsula and whatever's left of Jordan. To achieve this goal, I intend to construct and expand refugee camps, lobby for refugee corridors and try to encourage resettlement.
Elsewhere in the world, I plan on deepening the organisation's focus on education, making use of new technology, improving our micro-economic assistance, addressing the migration impacts of climate change, and also cracking down on substance abuse and sexual assaults within our refugee camps.
Do I have enough time left in the season to do all of this? No. Will it be interesting to give it a go? Yes ;)
Later today I'll put out a meta post detailing Austria's actions throughout the season for any future players, or for those who are interested. Many thanks to my European counterparts, we had a fun run. My only regret is not having recreated the Austro-Hungarian Empire when I had the chance.
