Hello. Last night I finished the entire series on DVD and I enjoyed it. It was funny and had a lot of heart at times. Now, I give you ny retrospective. This is the structure: My thoughts on the season, the stand-out moment and my favorite episode.
You may be asking why I grouped seasons 1 and 2 together, and that's for a good reason. In my opinion, these seasons are the same tonaly. There isn't an overarching story or goal, just the characters interacting. That made these seasons rough. It made it an easy target to make fun of since it was immature in a way, making fun of smart and nerdy people. Rewatching these seasons after watching the rest of the series makes these flaws evident.
The stand-out moment is hard to pinpoint since there isn't much going on storywise. If I had to choose, I'd say it would probably be the little hints to Leonard and Penny's relationship, from the first kiss in the Halloween episode to her saying she wished Leonard wasn't going on the Arctic expidition at the end of season 2.
Now for my favorite episode, which is hard to choose since there are so many. I'd have to say it's the one with Ramona Nowitzki. It's funny with everyone trying to figure out Sheldon's "deal." The montage of him trying to relax a bit is also funny, but the best comes at the end. Howard is a fan of mitosis for Sheldon's reproduction, believing Sheldon would split into two Sheldons after eating a lot of Thai food. This comes back into play at the end when Leonard has a dream about those events. It is one of the funniest moments in the series.

The show was good when it focused on the actual characters and not infinite amounts of being in relationships with other people. It quickly reached a point where the point of each characters was built around just another relationship. Before that, the characters could just be themselves with their nerdy lives and interests. Also, I would like to clarify that I said "good" and not anything more. It was never award winning quality imo. But after Season 1, it went to ok and then just bad.

There is one oddly specific line of dialogue from the series that is permanently engrained in my brain for some reason. After Raj gives a speech to a bunch of people at a "single people's valentine's day" party at Stuart's comic book store about how being single is okay because freedom, a socially awkward girl played by Kate Micucci of Garfunkel and Oates approaches him asking if he wants to get coffee, and he agrees before walking out of the comic shop and yelling "LATER LOSERS"
And the exact inflection and way he says it are still engrained in my brain years later. what a haunting line.
In season 1 episode 13 "The bat jar conjecture" around the 9:29 mark raj howard and leonard are trying to pick a fourth member for their physics bowl team. Raj suggest the actor who played tv's blossom who is mayim bialik who has a phd in neuroscience.
