Texas Wesleyan University Puns

I hear stories about this school, such it’s a CRNA mill (100+ students getting accepted), their passing boards are marginal ~84.8%. I even shadowed with a CRNA who went to TWU many years ago and told me the school is no longer what it used to be. He says, to avoid this school unless it’s my last option. He orients both TCU (Texas Christian University) and TWU SRNAs and he can clearly see the differences. TCU students are more prepared and more knowledgable overall. He believes that one of the main causes is due to the class size being way too large. He mentions, “CRNA school is a rigorous program and having those many students, no matter if they’re self-directed learners, many get left out.” He does make a point there. Also, mentions to hear TWU does the minimum of everything needed to meet AANA standards.

I question how can this continue to go on? I mean, every student is spending an enormous amount of money to become a proficient CRNA.

It reminds me of my undergrad A&P course where there would be 60 students. The professor wouldn’t even know half of them. Would just read a PowerPoint and go on.

Those who know individuals who went there, What y’all think? I mean TCU is literally next door to TWU and they should both be great at what they do. TCU has a great program and year after year they always have a national passing boards of 95%+

By the way, I’m not against TWU; I didn’t even apply to the school but I was going too because I’m from Texas. But after learning all this prior applying, I applied to a school out of state (tuition actually less than TWU) with a cohort of 16 students.

There was a thread posted 8 days ago speaking ill of my alma mater, TWU. I figured I would repost (with some added info) this to give my 2c and defend my alma mater:

I'm a Texas Wesleyan graduate. TWU was actually a good school, and I was very thankful for my experience. Experiences will vary based on the clinical site you choose. I attended the California site, I can't speak to the Texas clinical sites. Local places that don't usually take on new grads actually hire our new grad CRNAs because of the experience we get.

I went to a clinical site that provided more autonomy than all of the other schools in the area. After a couple of months you're basically running your own room (with guidance from the CRNAs and/or MDs of course), and after 4 months you're taking overnight call. Your clinical decision making becomes very strong.

The California site is a county hospital with the second busiest emergency department in California, which means you get the sickest of the sick and lots of traumas (GSWs, MVAs, etc). I felt more prepared to practice after graduation than people from other California schools that are highly ranked.

I did 100+ epidurals, close to the same amount of spinals, and ~100 p. nerve blocks. I do wish I had more nerve blocks, but it's one of the few places in SoCAL that allows SRNAs to do blocks so a lot of schools rotate to the facility trying to get blocks.

We learned from CRNAs that have been practicing 25+ years, along with MDs who trained at bigger names. The place was very apolitical, and I enjoyed training there. They offer rotations to CRNA only sites where you can do even more regional.

As far as didactics go, the A&P professor and pharm professor (both PhDs in their respective fields) were phenomenal. You learn things literally down to the cellular level in a way that's applicable to anesthesia. If somebody fails, it's usually because of A&P. It was very rigorous, but I graduated feeling very prepared to practice independently. I currently practice in major academic hospital (for the location, benefits and schedule), but I'm starting an independent side gig in a month at a level 2 trauma center. I feel confident enough to do so because of my training.

TWU used to have a bad reputation because they would accept a lot of students and clinical sites would fall through, but that hasn't been an issue for years. The program is very stable, and the current program director is awesome. I would ten times out of ten choose to

I applied RD but submitted my application at the beginning of the month, I did this with all my applications and received portal login info for all schools except Wesleyan. Have yall heard from them?

I've only received an email about fin aid and an email confirming that they'll add an update I sent them to my application. Before I contact them about it I figured I should ask yall in case it's normal since my application is RD.

i was browsing their wikipedia page and it says they accept 36% of international applicants AND they're need-blind (it didn't specify whether that's also for intl's but i think so?)

ik it's not exactly a safety but i've seen a lot of intl students on here having no options if they don't get into a T20, so wanted to pass this on <3

I am considering applying early decision to Wesleyan, and was wondering if anyone could give me some pros and/or cons of the university?

I visited the campus last month, and really loved the courses, the community and housing aspects, and the creative and liberal school environment (although I am not sure about Middletown...) I am interested in double majoring in studio arts and computer science/sociology/English literature/film (undecided). If anyone has any personal experience at wes, what do you think about the studio art department? Additionally, would you say the school provides good connections to industry/grad school?

I never looked into going there at all. They sent me hella emails and I unsubscribed. They kept sending them and I figured okay whatever they'll stop in a few months. I started college and all the other schools stopped sending me shit, but I guess Indiana Wesleyan University is just built different. I finally decided to block them but they just started sending me emails from a different account so I blocked that one too. I thought I had finally escaped, but then the biweekly physical letters started rolling in. I don't know what to do now but I'm honestly kinda impressed.
