If you've never seen it I suggest the film "The Strangers" (2007)
I love the film and just how realistic it feels where theirs no convoluted plot of brothers and blood ties just "because you were home" you gotta check it out. I have yet to see the sequel so I can't speak on it but I do love the original. It's also on Netflix now so you can watch it there.

Has anyone here seen the 2007 film 'Strangers ' starring Jimmy Shergill and KK Menon ?
I saw it on YouTube the other day and was blown away. Great performances, nuanced storytelling and none if the overdone sentimentality that we saw in Bollywood movies of that time.
Sadly it was a commercial flop.
Do you guys think it would have been a hit, had it been made today?

[TOMT][MOVIE], Hindi film similar to Identity from 2003.
I'm new to Reddit so my apologies if this looks a little unpolished.
I recall watching a thriller Hindi or Indian movie with my mom as a child, it was about strangers inside a motel getting killed off. Recently, I found the movie Identity and while watching the first 30 minutes of the movie, I immediately knew that it was similar to the movie that I had watched back then.
After searching the movie 'Identity' on both IMDb and Wikipedia, it hadn't said that it was based on the movie I had watched so, the Hindi movie might as well be based on the American movie.
It follows the same details of a murderer being interviewed by a psychiatrist of sorts but, in the movie I had watched before, it was a female psychiatrist..? Anyhow, it still follows the same premise of a mother of a single child getting run over by a famous lady's driver during a rainy night with no cell service, and they all proceed to go to a motel. It still consists of the same characters I had seen in the movie following a motel owner, driver, famous lady, officer travelling with a murderer, another lady(who in the Hindi movie was portrayed as the MC), newlyweds and, a three-membered family.>!The Indian movie also had the same plot twist of the killer being the small son in the three-membered family.!< I hope I described it well enough.

83 will suffer the sort of losses not seen by any film in the history of Hindi cinema..!!
83 (Hindi) continues to drop on its second Tuesday with collections in the 1.50 crore nett range. The collections till date for the film are around 90 crore nett. The film dropped another 20% apprx on Tuesday from Monday.
The second week business of the film is now looking 24.50-25 crore nett. The film will suffer the sort of losses not seen by any film in the history of Hindi cinema but these sort of things happen when films go wrong. They have gone wrong earlier and will go wrong in the future.
The bigger issue is the 95% of the Hindi film industry thinking this is a good or great film. It shows the huge difference between what the audience likes and what the industry likes and this difference has to lessen for more films to succeed at the box office. There were MULTIPLEXES in Gujarat and Maharashtra where Pushpa (Hindi) was doing five times the business of 83 yesterday and some even with less shows. This is multiplexes and not single screens and its second Tuesday against third Tuesday.

Recommend Non-hindi must watch Indian films.
Watched Jai bheem recently and the production value, cast, acting all were outstanding. What are some of must watch films made in India which are NOT in Hindi language. Kindly suggest also where i can watch if possible (as i will.be needing subtitles). All genre welcome. Looking for drama and mature audience flocks mostly. But any recommendations are welcome. Edit: thanks for suggestions. Keep em coming.

For me it's Shoojit Sircar and his partner's production company. Although filmography isn't big most of there have been well-recieved by critics and some were commercially successful as well

Representation of communities in bollywood/hindi film industry
Though Meenakshi Sundareshwar isn't the first time the portrayal of Tamilians was stereotypical as I can remember English vinglish having a similarly cringeworthy portrayal. But how can we expect bollywood to portray south india with accuracy as it has STILL NOT LEARNT HOW ACCURATELY PORTRAY PEOPLE OF IT'S OWN STATE. Take any film and notice the way Maharashtrians are portrayed, a Maharashtrian in a hindi movie is either a house maid, a corrupt and brute police officer or a mid level evil politician who disrupts the hero's attempt to improve the society, it's kinda disheartening to see that a state where 90 percent of bollywood actors reside isn't being portrayed accurately, infact it's people are being considered irrelevant and Marathi is considered as a substandard language to speak. So south India is a long shot, bollywood first needs to start with Maharashtra.
