Valve, It's about time Dota became a proper Sport. We don't need betting sponsors, Please fix the current DPC system to attract more sponsors and orgs or else our scene will just simply vanish.

Look at League of Legends and their sponsors, That just puts the sport of the game we all love to shame. Why aren't there more orgs in our scene? Not talking about player owned orgs like OG or Secret but players having power will always lead to disastrous consequences without proper management. Don't believe me? See the shitshow that is NA apart from EG. NA Dota can thrive but I do believe they will need imports either from EU or SA or SEA. It's possible if more orgs were in the scene. Our scene is a disaster, All the money is in a single tournament. Our Tier 2 scene is non existent and betting companies are taking over. We need to fix this issue. I look at Worlds and see the shiny sponsors their teams are showing and I feel bad about our game. If big sponsors like Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Beko, Bilibili, KIA etc can tap into a much younger market and make the LoL players it's ambassadors, One has to wonder why they aren't tapping into a market that actually has the buying power.

Edit: I didn't mean Betting sponsors doesn't make us a real sport, I meant that we need to stop relying on betting sponsors.

Sports Betting System Question

If betting OU or ATS for whatever sport and there was an application where you could select a few game parameters and it told you the historical % probability of OU and/or ATS based on those parameters, then also predicted a future game, is this something you would be interested in using? The intent is that it steers you away from making emotional bets and drives you towards making more logical bets based on data/stats.

i.e. let's say for NBA I want to look up all games from 2018 onward, where the team to bet on is a home favorite, their previous game was a loss, and they had no rest (back to back); and let's say the historical % of ATS in these scenarios are 58%, then it predicts to bet Lakers ATS for their next game since all of the above mentioned parameters match.

Since we’re legalizing online sports betting, and beer in movie theaters, let's also decriminalize sex work in NYS (and by extension NYC)

Heads up to sex workers on this board - it would def help if you could answer some of the questions likely to come up on this post.

Also, decriminalization is not the same as legalization. Watch this video to find out the difference.

The NYC economy (and the state economy by extension) is evidently in dire straits, so all sorts of things are being legalized to help it out. Online sports betting has just been allowed, and so has alcohol in movie theaters.

So my question is - while we’re at it, why not decriminalize sex work? There’s numerous reasons why we should, such as

  • It’s here despite all prohibitions against it. The laws against prostitution only make sense if it truly was an anomaly to the city. We all know that’s not the case, and it hasn’t been for a long time. By continuing to enforce laws against it, we’re only creating problems for ourselves that need not exist. We might as well acknowledge reality by changing our laws in ways that allow us to live with it.
  • As a consequence of the previous point, we already know that supposed detriments (an area becoming sketchier, noisier, dirtier, or more dangerous) are very unlikely to happen. Remember that for the past 20 years, crime was going down even as the sex trade was becoming more popular. Plus, Queens has the largest share of the city’s sex industry by far, yet is generally known as safe and family-friendly.
  • It actually reduces trafficking. Sex trafficking depends on the illegality of sex work to flourish. After all, if decriminalization allowed people to enter and exit sex work out of their own free will, what motive would there be to make money off trafficking?
  • It can generate tax revenue that can help the city. In that way, city sex workers would indeed be doing a public service.
  • It would help NYC public health. STD transmission risks can be better tackled when the health sector can more directly work with sex workers. This could also be used to tune up an already strong sexual health clinic network, which can be a model for the nation.
  • It would allow police resources to refocus on matters that affect public safety, rather than try wiping out an industry that every nation on earth is unable to prevent. And [if past behavior is any indication](https://old.reddit.com/r/nyc/comments/qh8ryj/the_nypd

Please help explain system sports betting

I just started betting on a fairly new Canadian sports book and just yesterday came across β€œsystem” betting.

I’m wondering if it works like I think it does. So if I’ve got 10 games in my bets slip right now. And I bet singles, doubles, trebles, 4 fold and 5 fold. Does that mean that for each of those I only need 1/10 2/10 3/10 4/10 and 5/10 to win ?

My bf is doing some sports betting stuff that I think is going to get him into trouble eventually with the IRS - but I don’t know how to explain to him why. Any insight appreciated!

Okay so essentially what he does is get people to sign up for sports books to take advantage of new user promotions, and then he utilizes the sports books to match bet and come out ahead. He fronts the person who’s signing up somewhere around $10-15k to be able to make all the necessary deposits for the bonuses, then at the end has the person transfer him the initial cash back + half the profits (usually anywhere from 3-6k per person).

He isn’t reporting any of this to the IRS because he says the people are β€œgifting” him the money and therefore he doesn’t need to pay taxes on it. I don’t think this is accurate but I’m honestly not sure. He has tens of thousands of dollars regularly being transferred in and out of his bank, which I’m fairly certain means he’s being flagged by the bank at a minimum. I don’t want him to get into any issues with the IRS and am hoping to get some advice that would either encourage him to do it the right way or verify that he’s all clear.

Thanks!
