A list of puns related to "Spinning pinwheel"
... that the spinning pinwheel of doom is keeping with the computer theme and mimicking the OS X/MacOS loading "pinwheel" that (especially a few years ago) would usually indicate your Mac is stuck?
I'm a computer guy who uses primarily Macs, and I feel kinda dumb for not realizing it sooner. Am I alone? Or is this a good sign for Apple, that it's been so long since the pinwheel of doom was a thing, we've already forgotten it?
It was a fun flash game I used to play all the time in the late 2000βs/early 2010βs. There was no plot or anything, the only objective being to maneuver the colored circle from one point to the other. It was 2-d and looked pretty simple, with the background of the game occasionally changing as you progressed through different biomes. If you touched any of the maze borders as you tried to beat a level, the ball would immediately break and place you back at the point you first spawn in. The spot you had to reach to progress to the next level was always marked by a filled-in white square with an βXβ in it. There would occasionally be the name of the next area you would go to on top of these squares if beating the level would take you to it. There was also more than one game in the series. Despite the simple gameplay, there were tons of different ideas used to make the level design unique, such as having fakeout squares that faded out as you passed over them and obstacles that would travel across the screen, destroying you if you touched it.
Hey Everyone -
I have a 2009 27" imac with decent specs - 2.8ghz i7, 1TB HDD and 8GB memory. But the mac became unusable with recent OSX upgrades (currently running 10.13 High Sierra) with the spinning pinwheel of death running constantly while loading or switching apps. I was ready to chuck it and buy a new one - and I only use this for word processing really. It was that slow.
So I went to :
System preferences
Accessibility
Display
and clicked on "reduce transparency".
Boom. I got my computer back. Amazing.
The transparency graphic effects on OSX are simply too much for the old GPU included in the older imacs (not enough memory or GPU ram) so the process is shunted to the CPU, shutting down your computer in the process and causing the spinning pinwheel of death.
You're welcome.
I'm on a 2017 Macbook Pro with 16GB RAM.
As of a week ago, I have been getting some stalling and brief occurances of the spinning pinwheel (perhaps for 2 to 3 seconds a time). Never had this before. It's happening when switching between programs/windows, and opening some files such as Word documents.
Turning off Genie effects, cleaning memory, resetting PRAM/SMC seems to have had no effect.
Any ideas?
A mirage-like haze appeared before us as she took a step towards it, peered back to me and asked, "Aren't you coming along?"
sometimes when i wake my macbook pro up from sleep, i get the spinning pinwheel and have to hold the power down and then power it back up.. i have a 15inch mbp. with a solid state drive.. anyone else having this issue?
I've tried reinstalling 10.7.5, I have run the Hardware Test, I have held shift+control+option+power button before start up, I have repaired my permissions, I have checked my Activity Monitor to see if something is using too much. There is nothing on my computer at this moment other than factory settings. Everything will seem fine for five minutes, then something will cause the machine to slow down or the pinwheel to appear sometimes for hours, not allowing me to access any part of the computer. Anything can set this off, from putting the password in at start up, to opening a program, to switching from the downloads tab to the applications tab in the finder window.
I have set an appointment with the genius bar for wednesday, but until then I was hoping someone might have some ideas for solutions, or even just to identify the problem and give me some sort of news, good or bad.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this whether you can help or not.
Computer was working great. Updated to Mavericks, noticed pdf's that I view routinely were freezing for a few seconds when scrolling.(both in preview and adobe, these are pdf's saved to my computer, not online).
Also, the rainbow pinwheel is now a regular occurrence when I almost never saw it before. Makes my system feel sluggish/slower. I then did a clean install of Mavericks without transferring any of my old data (just my apple account I guess). Same issues.
Anyone else noticing this or have a possible solution.
Whatβs the 30 spin βpinwheelβ reward from the spin house? Iβm talking about the reward you get every time you spin the wheel 30 times, like how you receive extra rolls for 10 and 20 rolls.
Iβve never noticed it do anything. Does anyone know what it does?
Need help trouble shooting my circuit. Lesson 09: Motorized Pinwheel motor spins as soon as connected to battery and diode which appears to be the correct way around heats up. Switch does nothing and MOSET may not be working correctly. Example program uploaded to the microcontroller. Top left + and - terminals connect to battery. I'm using a 1000v 1amp 1N40007 diode, could this be overrated for my project?
