A list of puns related to "Season of the Witch (2011 film)"
I am looking for that have somewhat similar atmosphere
I realize this isnβt everyoneβs cup of tea, but goddamn, this is a fine film. The cinematography is intimate, claustrophobic even. The editing is swift, confident. Every shot feels purposeful. The acting is out of this world realistic. The plot and screenplay is complex, each character is both virtuous and flawed. Thereβs a ton of gray area, nothing is black and white. Itβs so gritty, itβs one of those movies that is both art imitating life and life imitating art.
If you consider yourself a film buff or movie connoisseur you owe it to yourself to see this.
Since it's the Halloween season, I'm re-watching some horror classics. Spoilers below. Say what you want about this movie but I personally think it's one of the best in the Halloween series, albeit without Michael Myers. I and II were good. IV was eh and from there on out the rest just sucked although the 2018 version was pretty good I'll say. Regardless, I feel this movie gets a lot of backlash because it doesn't have Michael Myers. John Carpenter and Debra Hill had the idea of spinning off the Halloween franchise into an anthology series with Halloween IV intended to be a ghost movie. However, because of the poor reviews of III, they ditched that idea and brought back IV. Recently, more people are recognizing this movie as a cult film of the 80s which I feel is already overdue.
So again, no Michael Myers. The plot involves Halloween masks which have fragments of Stonehenge in them and when a certain melody is played, the person wearing said mask is killed by brain damage and they leave behind poisonous insects/snakes which then kill whoever are nearby them. Seems like a silly concept but it's very original and I feel that this film would've been a success if it didn't have the Halloween name attached to it. The ending is very good and reminds of another Carpenter movie "In the Mouth of Madness" due to it being part of his Apocalypse trilogy.
The special effects, acting, writing, music and plot devices are all very similar to Halloween I which is why I enjoy it so much. Little movements, subtle directing and filming cues which help to convey the mysterious tone of the movie. If you watch the movie, try to think of it as a standalone movie that's not related at all to Halloween. I feel as though a lot of people went into this movie expecting to see Michael Myers and got pissed because they didn't know what to expect. Either way, I think it's a great Halloween film despite having that stupid TV song that keeps playing all throughout the movie...

Kill List has the hard-boiled grime of Straw Dogs, the Satanism of Rosemary's Baby and the Madness of the Wicker Man all mixed into a social-realist stew of nerve-shredding violence. My top 5 Brit List :
1.Kill List
2.The Descent
3.Eden Lake
4.A Dark Song
5.The Children
Any of your own Brit/Yank/Japanese/Irish/Korean/French lists to add?

Saw another post about this but it's been deleted since.
I know some people are thrown off by the title 'Season of the Witch' as the film "doesn't feature witches" but this is a misconception.
It doesn't feature witches in the traditional sense but if you listen to Cochran's (bond villain-esque) speech, he clearly states this sacrifice is a tradition dating back thousands of years. He even calls it "our craft" and then our hero replies "witchcraft."
Its a modern take on witchcraft through big business and influence. Witchcraft on a huge scale.
Wholesale witchcraft!!
Either way, I Love the film, and watching through all of the other entries in the Halloween franchise recently solidified it's position at the top in my mind.

Hey everyone! Not sure this is appropriate for this sub, please let me know if it is. I'm from the Northeast coast so I'm quite removed from the phenomena Hellier explores, so bare with me. The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina on Netflix has become pretty sub par in its third season, but my partner and I love watching garbage television and have kept watching. To our complete shock (we watched Hellier together) Sabrina's creators have used and made reference to the Green Man, "old gods," Pan, and a bunch of other esoteric stuff explored and exposed by Hellier.
I'm not totally clear on the release timelines of each season of both shows, respectively, but the overlap between the two is hard to miss and even harder to ignore. In the most recent episode I watched of Sabrina (S3E7 I believe) they actually end up using "tones" to summon other witches, eventually realizing that they need to allow the tones to harmonize for a successful incantation.
The overlap is CRAZY - I'm honestly just wondering if anyone else has noticed or seen this, or even looked into it already. The Sabrina universe is absolutely TERRIFIED of Pan and the old gods in this season, I'm almost wondering if the creators of Sabrina have recently seen Hellier as well. I look forward to hearing your thoughts!
Just saw it for the first time today. I think I got carried away by the filmmaking. I think that it is sort of forgotten about when people discuss George Romero.
I love the story and the performances are great. The constant dream sequences kind of throw the pacing off but the ending was like a more satisfying version of Midsommmer.
Anyway I don't know anyone else who has seen it and just wondered what anyone thinks about it.
