A list of puns related to "Screen reader"
This is for those who use NVDA screen reader.
Have you noticed NVDA not speaking in edit boxes, specially Google chrome and other such browzers?
I've faced this problem with editboxes similar to Google search box on google homepage, Google Translate edit boxes etc, Youtube search edit box etc.
Do you have any working solution or suggestion for this?
Edit: Both NVDA and Chrome updated to latest version.
Edit: it doesn't happen with Narrator, the problem continues after disabling all addons, the problem continues in incognito or guest mode inside browsers and it continues after running the Com Registration fixing tool. Also, nope, restarting computer didn't fix that either.
Hi! This is my first post here. I was hoping for tips on writing alt text for my memes when I post on Facebook. I've done some classes on accessibility but they didn't cover social media. Anyways, I manage a couple pages and want to make sure the content is screen reader friendly. Should I Just put the text description above each meme? Or is there a way for me to use software on my computer to see how it's read, so it doesn't get confused with the automatic underlying text from facebook?
I'm serious, I need to know. Because I just upgraded from a Pixel 3 XL to the 6 Pro and I hate it. I sort of had to upgrade... 3 year old phone, cracked screen, no more storage, poor internet strength, etc... And I really can't stand this new phone. If there is even a smudge of anything on my finger, the scanner won't read it. Never happened with the back reader. I'm really struggling to text on this thing for some reason. Keep hitting lower row letters instead of the Space bar. And I'm wicked disappointed in the camera. I thought Google was in a constant battle with iPhone over their cameras? I took several night shots, expecting them to be far clearer than my Pixel 3 and they were on par, if not worse... But to circle back, this fingerprint scanner is driving me insane since it's not just a screen unlock function. It's also banking, stocks, etc... I just want to know what lunatics told Google they prefer this.
Hey everyone, I am new to screen readers and am currently in university, I've learned talkback on my Samsung well enough but I'm deciding on whether to learn voice over on my iPad or nvda on my computer since I have to learn one of these at least to do assignments and navigate school work. Anyone have a recommendation for which one I should learn for convenience for doing school work? With voiceover on my ipad, it might be harder for me to learn the touch gestures now since I am pretty used to the touch gestures on TalkBack on an Android so I might get confused, though possibly if I work at it I might get used to both and be fine with remembering the separate touch gestures eventually? Also, would it be less useful to learn how to use a screen reader on my iPad then on my computer in terms of doing online school? Or does it not matter? For nvda on my windows computer, I've heard it is harder and takes longer to learn that then on an iPad or mobile device, which is less convenient. Any advice? And thanks!
Look at this garbage. I can't find any tempered glass screen protectors that don't have an obnoxious circle where the fingerprint reader is.
This is the closest thing to it but when I search their store they only have a flexible one for sale and I don't want that. I have already tried installing a flexible one and it's a pain in the ass versus a tempered glass one.
If anyone's found a good one, please post it here. I would really appreciate it.

Hi so, my problem is that every time that I open the game the screen reader activates and says: press enter to start". I've turned it off, checked installation files on steam and it's still happening. I don't know what to do!!!
I am totally blind, and am amazed at how surprised people are to discover screen readers are a thing.
I'm moving from a Moto 5G Ace, which isn't too powerful plus has it's own range of issues, but it has a back of phone fingerprint reader. Going from that, to the in screen fingerprint reader, it's bad. It's really, really bad. Who thought this was a good idea again? Does anyone even like it? Is there something I'm missing? One of the annoying things is that I have to have the screen on, and it takes a solid 2 seconds. I'm actually considering sticking to the worse phone because the ability to even get it in is such a damn chore.
Does anyone know some good resources for learning about the differences between how various screen readers on Windows interpret content? For instance, what HTML or ARIA elements NVDA is compatible with versus JAWS or Narrator. I used to have a site that had a table displaying some of the compatibility differences and known issues of each, but I lost it at some point and cannot find it again.
I'm looking for the best screen reader available on OpenSUSE Tumbleweed. I want to listen to web pages through Firefox, PDF documents through Okular and ebooks through Calibre (although I don't mind changing ebook software as long as it supports ePUB and MOBI).
I use KDE as my desktop manager if that makes a difference.
Any help would be appreciated.
Hey everyone! There have been some posts about this topic, many of which have suggested Android is great for low vision and Apple is great for no vision. But I haven't found much about the nitty-gritty and was hoping to get opinions here.
My dad is totally blind and currently has an old, laggy Samsung phone with Android 9's version of Talkback. We were considering switching to an iPhone SE, with the Google Pixel 5a as a backup choice. But I saw one complaint that said Voiceover doesn't work while you're in a phone call (frustrating if you have to dial an extension). I was wondering if this was accurate, and it got me thinking about other potential complaints some of you might have about Voiceover.
None of my family has an iPhone, so I want to be aware of what different issues there might be compared to Android Accessibility. Just so we're prepared to solve or adapt to those issues (or just stick with Android). I'd appreciate it a lot. Thanks everyone.
Update (30/11/2021): If any of you have returned to this post, I wanted to thank you again for all your help and suggestions. I got the iPhone and my dad actually does not like it so far. The lack of a universal back button is frustrating. Having to scroll with three fingers page by page instead of one continuous scroll is also proving to be cumbersome. I'm hoping another day or two of me practicing on it and re-reading everyone's suggestions will help make it so good that it's worth the frustrations. If not, I'll have to exchange it. I still really appreciate all the help and hope all your comments help someone else.
Hey just got my phone today, and wanted to share my setup since I've been reading a lot of issues regarding the fingerprint reader on glass screen protectors. Hope this can be useful for some of y'all.
Hopefully this will help some of y'all. After these updates, my fingerprints pretty much work every time now. I am aware there are other factors like hand dryness, lighting conditions, and whatnot, so it may still fail for y'all. My hands feel pretty good today (not too dry), so circumstances may change.
Hi, I just wanted to address the fact that dyslexic, seeing impaired people will be able to read your content and play your games, if you make them readable with a screen reader like NVDA, Jaws or just the native reader in Acrobat reader and Windows. Too many times have I bought a book only to find out that my reader reads it out of order or simple can't process the text because of the way the graphics are set up.
I don't even think it takes a lot of work to do make your pdfs compatible, since a lot of pdfs work perfectly fine, while others are a complete mess. Most of the times this can be fixed by dragging the pdf into word and converting it to docx and the reconvert them into a PDF again. This will mess up the graphics, which makes the reading experience less enjoyable. I do believe that if one reader can read the pdf all of them can. Please consider this before you release your games, so that more people can check out your awesome work!
Edit: sonofabutch has a good post on how to format your texts. I also recommend making them available in EPUB formats, if you want to be sure. Those should work with any text-readers.
Hello,
I'm looking for a replacement for my Nook Simple Touch. It's a wonderful device and i wholeheartedly love it (even more, after i took it as Glowlight version and made Wrong-screen-ordered-so-no-more-glowlight version). But now, after several years i just wanted something with a little bigger screen. Tried Kobo Libra H2O but the gimmicks to make it in my native language and with a support for FB2 looked tiresome, so I would like to have reader with >7 inch screen and preferably Android system (because root, supersu, fortnite mods on e-ink and so on ;) ) Any help is appreciated.
Does someone else have the issue that the screen reader is still reading the two main menu entries?
Screen reader and TTS/STT are disabled, yet it's still happening.

It works flawless, feels also really good and it works with the fingerprint reader. It's maybe a millimeter or a half to small but that's okay https://i.imgur.com/8HiXVIy.jpg https://i.imgur.com/CnNXfMV.jpg Here a small video how it works with the fingerprint reader.https://imgur.com/gallery/L6FNofd

Reading lots of conflicting views about the benefit you get when turning on the "Increase screen sensitivity" setting on the 6 Pro in improving the performance of the fingerprint reader. What are others' thoughts on this? Are there any downsides in turning on the increased screen sensitivity setting? I'm waiting for the upgrade to arrive here in Australia with the December update. I don't sideload.
I don't habitually use a screen reader but just tested a post using ΓΎorn with ΓΎe one on my phone - and my phone does not pronounce ΓΎe letter
Γis makes me really concerned about the accessibility of posts using ΓΎorn to screen reader users (who presumably don't have Icelandic installed)
I haven't found a Japanese Android app that has a screen reader that works as well as Pleco's screen reader in this video.
https://youtu.be/NTgx_6mxNls
Feel free to post any apps that already do this for Japanese, because I have not found any.
Let me know if you're interested in me building a free and open source app that works like this so I can know if it's worth building.
Thanks in advance for anyone who replies to this :)

I'm looking for a big screen e reader to fluidly take notes with a simple os. I'm looking for a software specifically designed for the e reader, not an android fork. I actually have a pocketbook inkpad 3 and I love how customisable the os and the frontpage is. I want to be able to rip or hide all of what I consider bloatware from my device. Remarkable 2 should've been the perfect shot but the lack of a good and customisable e reader side is dragging me away. Plus it cannot read CBR and isn't lit, which is a no go. I'm looking for a device that follows me everywhere : from my bed at night reading SF and mangas from my office where I spend my days taking notes.
If there is an OS I can install on top of android, I'm not afraid to do it.
Do you have any idea of what could suits me? I've been reading reviews and reviews but nothing seems to be the perfect thing.
Hi all,
I opened Discord, and it proceeded to ask me about my use of a screen reader, and if I would like to give feedback on it's use within discord, you can view the linked page below:
https://support.discord.com/hc/ko/articles/360035966492
However, I do not use a screen reader. From my limited understanding they're essentially text-to-speech things? A few days ago I plugged in a new monitor. I'm not sure why discord has decided I'm using one though - Is this cause for concern? Could it have detected some form of malware?
