A list of puns related to "Salt pig"
Β£12 for a volcanic salt pig from TK MAXX I volcanic not say no could you ??
Iβm looking at a few designs, but I ran across one claim that a vertically oriented hole = wet salt(from pulling moisture out of the air, not accidentally dumping it in there), as opposed to a horizontally placed hole.
Tia!
My partner complained that the plastic container of table salt I normally use looked ugly sat on the counter - so I picked up a salt pig. But I'm a bit confused about what kind of salt you are supposed to put in them.
Regular table salt slips through my fingers when I try and take a pinch in my hand. Maldon sea salt flakes work quite well but it's expensive to use as a general purpose salt - I'm pretty sure most professional kitchens aren't putting that in their salt boxes!
I gather that in the US, kosher salt has a good coarseness for this. What's the best equivalent we have in the UK?
Good stuff. Trimmed a bit, dusted heavily in salt and pepper and tossed in some woo pig brisket mix for Good measure. Great taste. 9-10 hours on my offset at around 250, some temp excursions.

I'm struggling to find any veritable information on the root of the term 'Salt pig' (the kitchen vessel used for storing salt), aside from potential links to dialects of Northern England/Scotland (but these links then fail to explain why 'pig' grows to refer to such storage vessels.)
After watching one too many Ethan Chlebowski videos and seeing his salt pig, I got the notion to order the same he had. I tracked it down on Amazon so threw in an order and am now getting cold feet.
Does anyone have this one? My main worry is bugs getting in and contaminating the salt. It's a shame to waste food, even if it is relatively cheap like salt. I know clumpy salt is not too much of a worry because by design the inside is uncoated which absorbs the moisture in the atmosphere thus avoiding clumpy salt.
I was going to get the Alton Brown type one but decided against it since the lid add an extra inconvenience as opposed to the open container that is the Emile Henry one.
Let me know what you think / what solutions you have in your kitchen!
