Hello; I'm a fairly active TF2 player who recently found out about the Spiral Sallet hat, its origins and for the most part, how to obtain it. I've clocked in around 3 hours now grinding the achievement in Spiral to no success. If anyone here knows how to get it without saying "play this part of arcade", which makes little sense to me, please help, thanks alot, guys.

I'm currently working on a 3D model of a medieval knight with armor inspired mainly by the 15th-16th century. I'm not looking for perfect historical accuracy, but I don't want it to look like fantasy armor either. I'm basically wondering if the helmet I'm working on makes sense in terms of its construction, how its sat on the head, and its general shape and size.

I hope this is the place to ask for this. My aim (as specified by the title) is to see if anyone could help me find material/illustrative evidence of the existence of the (Anglo-Burgundian/Gothic/Italian style) Sallet with visor before the second half of the 15th century.
I have done some research of my own on the topic, as far as I can tell, there appears to be an early version of the "bellows face" variant of the helmet in the grand equestrian armorial of the Golden Fleece, which was compiled between 1429 and 1461. There is also an exhibit (though I have only seen pictures of it, not visited) of the more common style of the helmet in the army museum of Paris, which is dated to circa 1430. As far as I can tell, that's about it. I've looked at the Met and a few other museum collections online, some of the Sallets they showcase have been dated, at the earliest, to around 1450.
There are inventories in which the helmet is mentioned, between 1419 and 1430, but I've only been able to hear of the mentions second-hand, without having any sort of detailed description the actual texts may have contained that would have made identification easy. So it is dubious evidence at best, since it could be referring simply to the open-faced variety.
One (though not with a movable visor, it was more of an one-piece kettle hat design) was found in the armory of the sultan, if I am not mistaken, in 20th century Constantinople/Istanbul, and it is assumed that it was carried by a soldier during the 1453 siege of the city. Almost all medieval illustrations that showcase the helmet appear to be from 1460 - 1480 and the few that are not were usually worked on for a long time and much of that time comes after the 1450/1453 cut-off point (for example, a set of illustrations was made between 1440 - 1460, so it is hard to say that the parts which have it were made in the early years of its creation). Konrad Kyeser (I may have butchered his last name a little) had some war manuals that are said to have been written before 1450, but from what I could find, some illustrations are from the 1460s again.
As far as I can tell, the reason most sallets of this kind are dated to around 1460 - 1490 is because that's the point in which they had gained widespread renown in most of Western Europe, so there was a heightened demand for them, leading to greater chance that pieces would survive the 550 or so years necessary to be found and collected today. I love the look of this helmet, but the tail makes it a bit annoying to wear at times. I'm considering removing some of the tail lames. Is removing the lames even possible (for someone without special smithing tools)? Is it a bad idea to remove these parts?
I'd appreciate any advice on this. I love this helmet, and would like to wear it, but the tail is problematic.
