A list of puns related to "Sailing ship tactics"
From what I've read, it seems galleys coexisted with sailing ships in Europe for several centuries, which means combat between these two types of ship happened at least some times. But I'm having a hard time picturing how this would work.
I mean, galleys were mostly used for boarding actions, right? While sailing ships relied more on cannons and such. Archers vs infantry, essentially.
So how did galleys avoid just getting pummeled as they approached? Or did galleys simply avoided goings against cannons? Do we have any records of such a battle?
Thank you for the info. And sorry for the rambly question.
No I don't mean the wimpy yachts I mean the big leviathan class sailships which could carry thousands of people at once just on the power of wind
It can very well replace cruise ships in a green way. People will get the lovely jouney of sailing slowly on the ocean while companies don't have to buy fuel.
It can also replace cargo ships in long term.
Look I could be stupidly ignorant. Maybe these aren't viable
Or maybe they already exists.
Either way I want an answer and i can't make Google understand my question.
Edit: we can advertise the ship as something like adventure from the past so as to deal with many issues. Also integration of solar powered motor.
Edit 2:- you guys have totally changed my view funnily enough it was the quality of food that changed it. I can endure a 6 Month long trip but i can't survive for 1 day on just canned and salted things. Without electricity many of our taken for granted things quickly become luxury. I don't ever want to time travel back to era without electricity.
I'm booked for an Alaska cruise on the Crown Princess on May 7th. This is my first cruise and the 3rd time I have rebooked due to COVID. As far as I can tell, this will be the first sailing of the Crown after several months being out of service. Is that a good thing?
Also, any guesses if this will actually happen? I know there is no way of predicting the future, but I'm open to input from people with more experience. Thank you!
My party has a sailing ship that is about 90ft long, not including bowsprit.
I somewhat lazily was planning for them to get all the way to Iriaebor, but after some searching it seems like it might only be barges and rowboats after a certain point. Where would that start? Scornubel?
Hello, I was looking over the advanced rules for ships and noticed a pretty glaring issue.
I'm planning on having a pirate/sailing arc in my campaign because it sounds really fun, but in ship-to-ship combat, unless there are enough seige engines, only the captain really does anything, moving the ship while everyone else sits around.
I mean I could have the casters be able to cast spells at the enemy ship, or have the other players sneak around in a rowboat and board the ship if they want to, but is there any way to have the players be members of a crew without excluding a bunch of them or severely limiting them?
Do know a rule system for navigating a ship in a storm/maelstrom? Or do you have ideas for the frame conditions to make the situation more solvable? Would love to hear your thoughts on that.
The newest chapter is so cute. Finally, my boy Lucas is wasting no time at all to impress Athy π«π« It makes me really curious. How the hell is papa Claude so oblivious to all of Lucas trick recently?? π€£π€£ while Ijekiel boi just breath and Claude be like "THE AUDACITY" Anyone think Lucas might knock Claude unconscious every single time he goes to Athy?? π€£π€£
I want something flexible enough to accommodate whatever random NPC's end up on the ship without being entirely too much bookkeeping. Do I just take the mob and extra rules and make them player facing somehow? I already have the cost of employing these NPC sailors covered with an upkeep mechanic based on ship size, this is more about how to stat them up and make sure having crew on board is an interesting, elegant part of the game. I don't want to just have a crew die and call it a day, the most interesting thing on the boat is the people, after all. What have y'all done in the past that I can hopefully steal for my game?
Platform(s): PS1 (I played it at a Best Buy--it might have been a demo)
Genre: Action? I remember sailing around fighting enemies with cannons.
Estimated year of release: I just know it was on the PS
Graphics/art style: Overhead view of bright scenery with your ship rather small is what I recall
Notable characters: None that I know of
Notable gameplay mechanics: The cannons on your ship fired to the sides rather than straight forward, though their configuration could be changed with a button press
I think this stuck with me because of the novelty. I likely didn't play for all that long, but I've looked for it several times since. AN action game with age of sail ships is pretty distinctive. (Unless that was just an overworld map that went with something else.) Thanks for any help.
Check out the rough draft of the document here:
The former captain wrote daily updates to the ships log. The current owners of the ship(The Party) are looking for the journal. I'm stalling for time by saying that it's not on the ship, but they'll find out who has it eventually. If everyone on this sub comments an entry I'll have a huge journal to give them to read over. Mundane and boring, like standard ship routine is great. Crazy adventures is also good. Show me what you got and thanks in advance.
Edit: I'm typing up 5 examples right now.
Examples:
Day 1: Set sail from Port Jewel after repairs. Several new crew members. The short one looks familiar. I'll have to ask Po about the new recruits tomorrow. Cargo: 351lbs of cotton, 6 heavy crossbows, 500lbs rope, 4 barrels of apples
Day 66: Mast snapped in the wind. The wood was rotten on the inside. No way to have known. Charles was crushed. I don't think he'll make it. Cargo: 15 wheels of cheese, 30lbs each, 100lb crate of silk thread, 2000lbs raw iron ingots, 2 passengers (Edith and Jane)
Day (illegible): Kraken retreatee after we blew a tentacle off with a cannon blast. Navigator Zoey overboard with the maps and instruments. No heading in this fog. May Pelor help us all.
Day 8: Fair seas. Cargo: 37 halfling slaves, 500lbs of iron manacles, 4 sets of thumb screws, one tourture rack, throne made of child bones, 10 barrels of poison, 5 barrels of acid, 20 flasks of dragonfire whiskey
Day 9: Threw the cursed thing overboard. Everything is a mess. The crew are cleaning the hold nonstop. The smell is terrible. Cargo: 22 halfling slaves, 500lbs of iron sludge, 5 empty barrels, 9 barrels of poison, 1 flask of dragonfire whiskey, broken torture rack. 4 sets of thumb screws.
