A linguistic question about the SS Imperator and later service as RMS Berengaria.
This was a random shower thought that I had and after finding nothing on the internet, I figured I'd ask here.
When the Imperator was in service for Hamburg America it was referenced with male pronouns. Post WWI after Cunard rebranded it the Berengaria, would the company/sailors honor the original distinction of it being a "male" ship or did they stick with the long standing tradition of all "female" ships.

SS Imperator, a German liner that was built before the war and wasn’t used in it. After the war she was given to Britain as repetitions She was renamed Baringaria, she along with her other sisters would remain the biggest ship in the world until the SS Normandie, 22 years after her launch.
