A list of puns related to "Rooftop Prince"
These are my all time favorite kdramas and Iβm having trouble finding something that sounds as interesting as these. I want to cry really hard but also have a happy ending.
People have recommended Flower of Evil even though the premise is nothing like the two I mentioned, but Iβm looking for something a little more lighthearted and feel good than that. All suggestions appreciated!
I just watched Hwarang and... well... it was NOT good. I LOVE psj, but the FL and some of the writing... the overuse of flashbacks and the tons of fillers made it a torture to watch. Now Iβm contemplating watching rooftop prince and crowned clown but donβt think I can handle another hwarang type of show. Are they any good in your opinion? TIA
Hi.
first time poster on this subreddit.
I've been watching a lot of KDramas on Netflix recently and one of my recommendations was rooftop prince. The summary looked like fun so I decided to give it a try. However I had to stop around the 40 min mark of the first episode
Basically actual evil sh*t. This doesn't look like a comedy to me.
I understand that there has to be some dramatic element but this seems to heavy for what I assumed was fish out of water / time travel rom com ...
Is this something that just needs to happen for the plot to start ? Or is this an atmosphere/mood that is recurrent on the show.
I'm looking for more lighthearted stuff for the moment. So if you've watched it , please tell me whether I should try to continue or if can safely drop it.
Thank you
EDIT:
Thank you everybody for taking the time to respond.
I find it incredibly strange that even here some describe the show as a fluffy and lighthearted while others are of the same opinion as me and describe some characters as plain evil. I guess tastes will differ... For me the contrast is to great so I will drop it for now. I will however try "Queen and I" as suggested by some of you.
Thanks again
I just watched a really heavy drama and I want to watch rooftop prince but im not sure if i can handle an emotional roller coaster right now. Does rooftop prince have a happy ending? Because i may not watch it if the ending is sad. And even if they ending is sad is the show still worth watching?
Rooftop Prince you guys!
Kay so this is a fun one. I wasn't expecting so much comedy - I wasn't expecting much honestly; I'd only read the barest synopsis - 'Joseon prince gets transported to modern era and wants to solve the murder of his princess'. But it was full of giggles.
Kayso BACKSTORY PLOT: (Joseon Era) There's this prince, right? And he's married to this princess, right? And the princess has a younger sister. What the prince doesn't know is the younger sister was supposed to be sent to marry him, but because of a totally-not-on-purpose accident caused by the older sister, she suffered a bad scar on her face and the older girl got to go to the palace and marry the prince instead. Prince and sister-in-law (who goes around wearing a veil) become totes BFFs because she is talented and smart, and Prince also loves his wife, Princess, because even though she is Kind Of A Jerk, he is unaware of that, due to the fact that she acts very sweet. Anyway, Princess kicks the bucket in a lake and everyone thinks it's suicide or accident but the grieving Prince thinks it was murder and hires a few bros to help investigate.
Kayso BACKSTORY PLOT: (Modern era) There's this girl, right? And she had a dad who married a woman with another daughter. She got separated from the family as a child, ended up in America, and when she finally got to Korea again, Dad was dead but stepmom and stepsister were there, so she starts life over with her stepfamily. Plot twist: Stepsister of girl has SAME FACE as Joseon Princess! Whaaaaaat? Meanwhile, on the other side of town, some chaebol kid has the SAME FACE as Joseon Prince! Doublewhaaaat?
So anyway, through the power of magic, Joseon Prince ends up transported 300 years into the future with his gang of broservants who were helping his investigation (there are three of them), and the end up sitting in the rooftop apartment of modern-era-girl-with-stepfamily. She shrieks and arms herself with a frying pan, the broservants leap up to protect the Prince from this evil witch, and cue the hilarity to begin.
So basically the rest of the story revolves around the Prince's quest to solve the murder of his Princess somehow 300 years later (utilizing the dumbest theory and plan ever), while hilariously learning to cope in the modern world with his servants, while Park Ha deals with her nutty new long-haired Joseon-speech roomies while managing her family affairs. There's also the matter of what these lookalikes have to do with

MAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan that was an amazing LAST EPISODE. I haven't been so satisfied by a kdrama's last episode in a long while now.
The actress really brought her A game for the last episode as Bu Yong. holy poop
oh and what a kickass soundtrack this drama had
clap clap clap clap clap furiously =D
[SPOILERS AHEAD]
So I am just wondering if it was a cultural thing but how the heck did Lee Gak not know that the crown princess didn't actually drown? Wouldn't he have seen her face during a funeral service?
Also he mentions the poison on the dried persimmons at the beginning of the show when they are seeking the killer. Wouldn't he have also known that the crown princess hadn't ate any because Boo Yong ate them all?
It just seems like the biggest hole and I'm curious what everyone else thinks. Don't get me wrong, I loved the rest of the show. That whole scenario just bothers me.
I've watched quite a few kdramas. I never really hate a series, but I can get a little bored and have a hard time finding the motivation to finish it. I love more mature themes, more comedy, less angry mothers crying and screaming for episodes, and more physical affection (if possible). A few of my favorites are Coffee Prince, Shining Inheritance, You're Beautiful, Princess Hours, and Big. I think Secret Garden will be in that last too, as soon as I finish the last episode and a half ;).
Kinda new to this drama craze, I've watched a couple dramas already so I was wondering which drama should I start next. What's the better drama, pros/cons?
Thanks : )
[SPOILER ALERT]
Okay I just realized something. I was re-watching Rooftop Prince the other day and it was episode 8 where Lee Gak confesses the real reason why heβs pretending to be Tae Yong. He didnβt exactly say all the details to Park Ha so she went to the library the next day to find out more about his time in the Joseon era.
If I remember correctly, Lee Gak was almost killed in episode 20 by an arrow that wouldβve pierced his heart. Instead, he was saved by the necklace that Park Ha gave him when they got married (episode 19).
So if my hunch is correct, Park Ha read about the death of Lee Gak in the Joseon era and it was supposed to be that arrow. Which is why she insisted that he keep it to his heart always thus saving his life and making it longer.
Thatβs some history changing magic right there.
Okay, seriously, I've watched my fair share of kdramas. I've experienced deaths, body swapping, gender concealing, and all that jazz within the first couple episodes. I've taken it with stride and barely even flinched when these bizarre plot twists occurred. However, this is a little much for me. I mean, there are two murders within the first half hour of the first episode. I didn't even read a synopsis for this drama before watching it, so I was reeeeally confused. The switching between eras, the barrage of information, and the extremely fast transition from childhood to adulthood made the first episode rough. TWO MURDERS! What?! And not accidental situations either. And letting a strange truck just leave with your little sister? I've heard people say they love this show, but was anyone else as confused and slightly horrified as I am right now? I'm only two episodes in, at this point, but this is some serious stuff that's happening.
They are postponed until Thursday because today is election day in Korea. I think a few more shows are also being postponed but both episodes will show tomorrow.
