A list of puns related to "Roman cursive"
Hello, I'm seeking for some free fonts that look like ancient Roman cursive. I'm -18 so I can't pay for any. Xd

Script is based on Antiqua Cursive Romana (not sure how accurate this really is, but it seems to be as universal as you can get with such a varied form of writing in general)
I read that the common citizen of ancient Rome didn't write in all caps but used a handwriting style of cursive. Can anyone explain it to me, how common was it, how do we know what it was, when it was used, etc...?
Thanks /r/latin!
Say I am writing "English II" , or "Algebra III", will I write that as English II with the "I's" like this? Or would I write it as an "I" in print?
I hope my question makes some degree of sense.
So I've been wanting to get this piece done for a while now as I want writing on my forearm but I'm looking for something completely different from what everybody else has. Here's the quote I want:
"Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones."
It's not from Marcus Aurelius, I know that, that's not why I'm getting it. Anyway, I want to get this done in Roman cursive. Unless there's somebody here who knows how to write in Roman cursive and is willing to give me a design, I'm only looking for a translation. Also, I don't want this translated with Us and Js. So, for example, not JUPITER but IVPITER.
Thanks for all your help in advance!
I am learning Latin and so i also want to learn the everyday writing system of ancient Rome.. The problem is i dont seem to find any good examples of how the Roman citizens wrote except for the big capital letters on statues and such. I am wondering if anyone can post a picture of the roman letters as a Roman would have written them next to the modern equivalent?
The Romans used a less formal script, known as Roman cursive for daily life, while the Latin script we know now was more formal. How did the Latin script displace Roman cursive as a daily form of writing?
I'm looking into doing an independent study project on wax tablets, and following the evolution of the writing from old roman cursive up through the medieval era and charlemagne's reforms. If anyone can help me find any complete alphabets from different time periods, it would be immensely helpful. Searching my library's database has so far yielded only this, the alphabet being on page 3. I've made a couple of reproduction tablets, and intend to teach myself at least one form of roman cursive. I'm reading up on the Vindolanda tablets, including the online database of them, but it's difficult to pull an alphabet from the fragments, even with a transcription.
If anyone can help me out, I could definitely use a bit of guidance on this. If you know anything in particular about tablets, as well, I'd like to hear it. Doubly so if you know anything about the method by which they were made. I know next to nothing about roman hand tools.
Would Caesar have written his Commentaries in Roman cursive? When did it fall out of use? What did the Romans themselves replace it with?
Edit: Clarification - Before Uncial and the like was developed.
Edits in cursive, huge thanks for all the feedback, especially everything outside europe =)
Saldaea:
Middle East & Eurasian steppe culture: The names, horse culture, general culture. They seem to have bits of Ottomans, Cossacks and Mongolia. Thereโs also black sea region aspects. And theyโre described to have bold noses, slanted eyes and black hair.
Kandor:
(historical) Russia: The surnames are pretty Slavic (with some Asian tossed in), they carry wealth in chains, they export furs, timber and mining products. They also have famous clock-makers, and good military.
Arafel:
Eastern Europe and some Persia: They seems to have some western steppe culture influence, thereโs also king Paitar, fur and timber again. Also they have braids and silver bells, which reminds me of traditional Bulgarian hairstyles, which is braids ornamented with silvery discs. They also usually have pale skin. Names especially and horse culture is reminiscent of Persia.
Shienar:
Japan, with some Europe: The topknots, swordfighting, bathing, honor and names are all Japan. The way their appearance is described, many personalities (Uno) and the nature gives me Kievan Rus vibes, architecture is Swiss, armor and chivalry medieval Europe.
Arad Doman:
Arabic and Iran, some Asia: People's names sound Arabic, city names Iranian. In ancient Egypt female merchants were common, and there are famous historical female Arabic merchants. The carpet trade is very Iran, physical appearance is pretty west Asian and the clothing and food has a generally Asian vibe.
Tarabon:
South and east mediterranean: Thereโs some Turkish (cylindrical hats), some north African (panarch), the rugs, dyes, baggy trousers, a lot of port cities. Thereโs an Arabic vibe overall and Arabian architecture as well.
Ghealdan:
Iberian. They seem to have a generally Iberian vibe (Spanish/Portuguese/Andorran/Moorish). Additionally, thereโs mountains and forest, they have dark coloring and they have slate (which is common in Spain & Portugal)
Amadicia:
Puritans and Teutonic knights: The fashion and that purity-obsessed, self-righteous attitude gives Puritan Christian vibe. The Whitecloaks have a lot in common with Teutonic knights (over-zealous religious military crusaders in white).
Altara:
Italy: Lace, the buildings, cheeses and seafood. Ebou Dar has a very Venetian vibe (guilds/canals/carnival).

Logan's birthday was October, so from then to June 14 is the span of the show. Wild that so much has happened in only 8 months.
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Hey fellas,
As this is still a relatively small community, I believe it provides us a great opportunity to get to know each other a bit. But meanwhile, do feel free to remain mysterious;)
Starting with me:
The alias I go by is Arthur or ้ ็. I am a native Chinese living in Germany since 2015. I had about two years' training of hard-pen calligraphy (็กฌ็ญๆธๆณ), focusing on running script (่กๆธ), but I can do regular script (ๆฅทๆธ) relatively well. I have privately tutored several younger Chinese in handwriting improvement, including one of my former classmate.
While wandering in r/ChineseLanguage, to my surprise, quite some Chinese-learners are struggling with handwriting and are interested in improving it. Since the vast majority users in r/Handwriting sub write only Roman alphabet, I decided to create a new community to fill the gap. I feel lucky that this sub provides a platform where I can share my knowledge, building it also rekindles my enthusiasm about handwriting. Although far from being a calligrapher, I am confident that after some exercise, you all will write significantly better than most who practise on their own, including native Chinese.
Unless you determine to be absolutely quiet in the community, I would ask you to choose an unique User ID and attach it at the end of your posts, like a signature. The purpose of it is to provide a personal tracking 'tag' so after a while you may find your or other's older posts easily. Note that the format is two capital Roman letters (A-Z) plus four digits (0-9). For instance, mine is AD1989.
Just comment below this post, if you have one word or two to say about yourself, and have chosen an ID. Thank you!

It really does, I swear!
My mind stood still, choosing to neither fight nor flee, remaining in a state of perpetual attempted comprehension of the scene playing out in front of me as I remained motionless, petrified in place. It began to rise up, uncoiling its gigantic serpentine body as the writhing mass spread its gyre out from the podium. As I craned my neck back in abject awe, the sheer size of the thing was only overshadowed by the absolutely magnificent display of colour reflected from every inch of its surface, a display I instantly recognised from the immaculate carving still nestled in my bag. As my eyes adjusted and the luminous glow of the worms fully encapsulated the absolutely massive being, the brief realisation came full circle as its gigantic head came into view, opening its two massive, enchanting eyes, staring straight into my very soul.
It was beyond words, terrifying yet majestic, completely and utterly imposing yet genuinely serene. The gigantic serpent a spitting image of its statue, which itself was carved of the same brilliant, shimmering material that made up every undulating scale that covered the entire beasts elongated body.
For what felt like eternity it stared menacingly, emanating a low, reverberating growl, when my knees finally gave out. Falling backwards, my bag hit the ground first, the contents spilling out over the stone floor as I followed a moment later. The serpent swung its focus passed me to the now exposed carving, shining in all its rainbow glory, it looked straight back at me with a bizarre expression not even five meters away as I nervously glanced a look at the statue, my mind reeling. Turning back, I almost had a heart attack as it had silently moved in barely three feet from my face, its eyes narrowed, delving deeper into my being. In a moment of clarity I scampered back, reaching for the statue, I held it out in front of me, offering back its likeness in a vain attempt at a peace offering
The beastโs eyes widened slightly as it stared at me for a long moment as if reading my intentions, before, after for what felt like an eternity, it opened its eyes back up as the bizarre snarl ceased and it pulled its head back. Standing up tall on but a fraction of its length, reaching almost halfway to the ceiling, it suddenly jerked its head over to the left then back to me, I stood, dumbfounded as it repeated the action, seeming almost frustrated or impatient. When I finally snapped out of my trance, I shot a look back to th

Does school still teach roman numerals, cursive and all the other little BS? No one ever uses that crap in actual life... you are better not even knowing them....
I am personally stuck with my hand writing being a hybrid, the standard print and cursive... it really erks me, but that is how it is now....

Hey everyone,
I hope you all have enjoyed Christmas. Here comes the part two of Mulan Easter Eggs. (link of part one, in case you missed it.)

The painting on the desk of Chi-Fu depicts him shaking hands with the emperor (lol). But it caught my attention actually because of the beautiful calligraphy (semi-cursive/running script ่กๆธ).
If i have transcribed the characters correcly, it reads ๅ ถ็ฆไปๅผๆ ๅญๅทฑๅฏๆฅๆๅพก้ข and the seal ๅคๅธๅคซๅญ. However, I have no idea why there is a ๅ in the bottom right corner.
The script means Please keep it (the painting) well my young friend. (Written) in the spring of year Ji-Mao, from the Emperor. The seal of the Emperor basically says Old man in his 70s.
Allow me to explain.
ๅ ถ็ฆ
The given name of the emperor's advisor is ่ณ/่ต็ฆ, according to the Disney Fandom. It makes sense as it means โto bestow good fortuneโ. In comparison, ๅ ถ็ฆ could mean โhis good fortuneโ, which is less likely for a name.
However, since the exact characters are never given by the studio, if we stick to what's written here, it checks out because in Wade-Gile romanization system, ๅ ถ is indeed Ch'i. While in Cantonese, ่ณ is romanized as ci and in Taiwan's Tongyong Pinyin system it should be cih. In fact, ่ณ and Chi can't match in any of known systems.
Yet still, we need to establish that possibly most names in Mulan were adapted from the Cantonese romanization, but in large inconsistent. For example, the family name of Mu-lan, Fa (่ฏ/่ฑ) is faa in Cantonese, as opposed to Hua or Hwa in China/Taiwan Pinyin. However, the given name of the young Captain Shang (็ฟ) should be coeng in Cantonese (perhaps too tricky for the voice actor?). One of the good buddy of Mu-lan is called Chien Po (้ๅฏถ/ๅฎ), which is clearly based on the WadeโGiles system that based on th
