A list of puns related to "RoboCop (franchise)"
This battle will take place in the mean Streets of Detroit Michigan both will have access to all of their weapons/armor both will be aiming to kill each other
I'm a long-time Terminator Fan, but only recently have I started subbing here. I wanted to follow all of the juicy Dark Fate fallout that is currently rippling through the internet like the nuclear explosion rippled through Los Angeles in T2. The way Dark Fate has been made, the shill marketing for it, and the director attacking fans and calling them manbabies etc. is very similar to the recent events in Disney Star Wars (you should follow Saltier than Crait on reddit if you like Star Wars criticism).
Anyway, I love T1 and T2 (as does everybody I think) but I also love the RoboCop movies, and I think that a great way to bring back both classic characters would be a crossover. Its been done before in comics and video games, but it never happened as a movie, but I think the idea has genuine potential. And no, I don't mean like Epic Rap Battles of History or like Death Match, but a proper movie made with care and a genuine desire to tell a good story.
A big strength as far as I see is that it allows RoboCop to be the hero, and the Terminators the villains. There's no need to somehow bring back Sarah and John Connor; their story is already perfectly told in two perfect movies. There's no need to find a way to bring back a hero Terminator played by Arnold Schwarzenegger (I do love him as an actor, but not every Terminator story needs him as a hero, and I doubt he'd want to play a villain again); Terminators can look like anyone, and it would be cheaper to just hire new actors than to CGI paste someone else's voice and face. Scary Terminators like in T1 and T2 would be great RoboCop villains too because they'd actually be able to fight back; they're also bullet-proof and have powerful computer brains just like his, and are arguably more advanced Cyborgs (1980s technology versus 2020s technology). Most of RoboCop's human opponents are killed pretty quickly as seen here. As a fan of both, I wouldn't mind seeing a movie with no heroic Terminators, and would enjoy seeing RoboCop face them.
Finally, there's a duality to both that could be thematically deep, and make such a crossover more than just a big action movie, which most of the Terminator sequels are, but to be thoughtful, introspective, and have deep themes, just like T1, T2 and also some of the RoboCop movies. RoboCop is a man who becomes a Cyborg to protect people, the Terminators are machines who become cyborgs to kill them. T2 in many ways is a mirror of

Some franchises like Alien & Terminator have at least two classic films under their belts while something like Lord of the Rings is great from beginning to end. With that said, what are some film franchises you think should have been better off with only one installment?
Here are three examples I can think of:
I was watching the prototype scene from the first RoboCop after a few days of re-listening through Fistshark Marketing and I was struck by the sociopathic similarities between OCP and Fistshark Marketing. So now I'm wondering if OCP was the inspiration for Fistshark (along with real-life corporate America).
One of the biggest complaints I hear about RoboCop 2 is that it lacks the biting satire of the original film, and for a good while I thought that too, until a friend pointed out to me it was a suprinsingly prophetic satire of Hollywood. Once I watched it like this, I began to see it in a different light.
There are 2 main storylines happening in RC2. Robocop's and Cain's.
First let's look at RoboCop himself. He is a metaphor for Movie franchises while OCP is a metaphor for the movie studios.
At the start of the movie. Robocop has gone on to be a massive success. Hugly popular, the company is desperate to cash-in a create a 'RoboCop 2'. We're treated to a scene where the board of executives are shown various 'Trailers' for a number of possible candidates, all woefully useless (And in one case homicidal). This entire scene (Excluding the murder... in most cases) is designed as a satire of studio movie and TV network pitches and trailers.
RoboCop's main problem in the first half of the movie is the backlash from parents groups over his violent nature. This causes OCP, at the request of Public Relations groups to add 300 new directives, making him, ridiculously friendly and polite, less violent and more prone to educate children away from crime. This leads to a scene where he catches a group of children robbing a store and tries to (Inneffectually) impart moral messages and show them the error of their ways in a parody of the PSA's that would often be at the end of 80's cartoons, where the usually violent hero would find a group of children about to take part in some dubious activity and give them a stern talk about the dangers of smoking, theft or drugs etc.
This continues, with RoboCop becoming more and more laughable in his 'moral crusade', such as forcing someone to stop smoking by almost blowing his head clean off, to the point where he decides to purge the excess directives by overloading his curcuits, literally 'Rebooting' himself.
TL:DR Exectutives try to cash in by forcing a Robocop sequel, while the original is forced by pressure from Parents groups to be toned down, made 'nicer and friendlier' and give 'moral life lessons' as an alternative from blowing people into gooey bits, before being 'Rebooted'. Yes, strangly prophetic of the entire RoboCop franchise (See RoboCop 3 and the various toys and childrens cartoons that came in the following years)
Next is Cain's storyline. He is a satire of gritty reboots and the rise of the 90's Anti-Hero
... keep reading on reddit β‘Four movies, one TV series, one miniseries, and two cartoons. The franchise was mostly dormant after the TV series was cancelled back in 1994. They tried to bring it back with a cartoon in 1998 and a cheap miniseries in 2001. Since then, we've only had one new production, the 2014 remake. I haven't seen it in years, but I remember its greatest flaw was that it was bland and boring, and the characters were forgettable.
To those who want to see more RoboCop, how would you resurrect the franchise? Would you do a 5th movie, 2nd series, 2nd miniseries, or a 3rd animated series? Would you use the classic design, the reboot design, or do something new? Build on existing stories (which ones?) or do a hard reboot?
To me, RoboCop was a product of the 1980's. I'm content with it just being this old school 80's/90's trilogy. The remake is OK. The cartoons and TV show were aimed at the elementary schoolers, and the miniseries... I've seen better home-made movies on YouTube. Remove the RoboCop character from the miniseries, and tell me... is it any good? I think the only way forward is to either do a 5th movie or leave it alone.
I would have a 2nd remake focus on two characters. Introduce a new character, and have him or her represent the audience. Sad news, a beloved cop has died. A few months later, RoboCop arrives in honor of slain cops, especially Alex Murphy. As the film proceeds, the story focuses more and more on RoboCop, and the main character learns that he's not just in honor of Murphy, he is Alex Murphy. Basically, imagine the original movie if told from Ann Lewis's point of view, but made for a modern audience. Could it work? Sure. Does it need to be made? Not really. Would it sell? Would people genuinely like the movie? Depends on who makes it, honestly.
