A list of puns related to "Robert Hooke"
Does anyone know where I can read this? Scans? Anything really.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Alright so I wanted to get some Fatalis evil eyes and I want to be nice so I search for Fatalis' SOS'. That was my first mistake. There were 3 people in the quest, one DB doing whatever, one SA spamming claw elemental discharge on Fatalis' head like me, and one absolutely garbage LS player. Robert Hooke.
This fucker is MR 50 and using a complete mis-match of armour, Furious Headdress, Rathian Mail, Acidic Gloves, Damascus Coil and Brachy Greaves. I checked later and get this, he has gemmed in non elemental bonus, ON A FUCKING ALATREON LS. WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU. Other useless skills include 2 points in earplugs on a 4 slot gem.
There is no fucking set bonus eqquiped on his armour. CUNT YOU ARE USING LONGSWORD. ALMOST ANYTHING IS A GOOD SET BONUS FOR LONG SWORD JUST FUCKING PICK ONE.
He faints 3 times on phase 1 fatalis. All to the wide sweeping beam. THE FUCKING BEAM. THE BEAM WITH ENOUGH WINDUP TO GO AND MAKE A CUP OF TEA, TAKE A SHOWER AND WATCH AN EPISODE OF YOUR FAVOURITE SHOW. HOW. THE. FUCK. I never saw him die to it so I assumed he thought he was cool and tried to evade it using foresight slash. Luckily me and (I'm assuming) the other SA ate for Felyne Safeguard.
And he faints again on the second phase. But not before hogging the rotary cannon even though he doesn't have a single fucking point in heavy artillery
We get to the final phase with a head break. We are in the clear. Fatalis goes for his first super, we are dead center of the map. No problem right? Wrong. This fucker runs straight at fatalis rather than the edges of the cone like he's in a fucking anime and carts. Fuck you. You are the reason its easier to hunt solo, for every single hunt in the game minus the fucking seges but that's another can of worms.
Fuck you, Robert Hooke.
So I just finished reading 1666 by Rebecca Rideal. However, I read it as an audiobook, so lamentably, no footnotes.
What I'm focussed on is completely tangential to the narrative so I assume it's probably not footnoted much anyway. It's concerned with the three men mentioned in the immediate aftermath of the Four Days Fight between England and The Dutch Republic, and I quote from the book:
>βPrivately, Pepys was not as pleased with the news as the king appeared to be. Following a brief meeting with the scientist Robert Hooke, who was compiling a list of naval terms and words for a book about The Universal Language by his friend Doctor (John) Wilkins. Pepys reflected on the state of the navy.β
I want that list. I want that list of naval terms so badly. But I cannot find it. Is anyone here a historian of the period who might be able to direct me in where to look?
Many thanks :)
I have been reading up on the 17th century scientific revolution lately and kept coming across the name of Robert Hooke. While not very known to the layperson (presumably) he was everywhere. While there is a "Hooke's Law" regarding elasticity, he doesn't appear in the popular account much. A list of his accomplishments and activities would be rather lengthy, aside from the aforementioned law, he anticipated evolution, created a telescope, described cells, discovered the elliptical orbit of the moon and the earth, worked on measuring gravity with a pendulum, worked on atomic theory, discovered diffraction and the list goes on.
I was wandering if there are any other scientists like this, who are everywhere but not well remembered or celebrated because of not focusing on one area or because of a possible bad attitude? Leibnitz comes to mind, are there others?
The other thing I have been interested in because of these studies are people who were famous for one thing but should have been famous for another, more important or significant contribution. Pascal for instance did much to further mathematics, science, and even invented the first computer. While his writings are fabulous, his work in geometry and algebra are of much more importance in the long run. Are there any others like him? I think both Pascal and Hooke are an interesting contrast to someone like Newton, one is a scientist who is remembered as an apologist and the other is an important scientist who wasn't "important" enough. For comparison, Newton spent most of his time writing about the apocalypse, but he is rightly remembered for his math and physics, I guess are there any "reverse Newtons" that are interesting to learn about?
Spring.
frick you newton
I'm about to start a PhD in neuroscience focused on functional imaging with microscopes, and I really want to read this as a primer / inspiration before I start. Sadly it seems there are more poorly reproduced version out there than good ones, can anyone recommend an edition to me that had good picture size etc....
