Process for refunding Gift Certificates when using Cash Sales/Cash Refunds?

We're trying to figure out implementing Gift Certificates in NetSuite, we're most of the way there. Only thing missing now is the correct way to process refunds for orders purchased using a gift cert.

NetSuite specifies a process for a gift cert refund in SuiteAnswers #18611. NetSuite does not allow a direct refund to a gift certificate, but gives the instructions for issuing a new gift certificate for the amount refunded. The process involves creating a new invoice for the customer, then using the original Credit Memo as payment for the invoice.

The problem we're having is that our NetSuite is configured to generate Cash Sales and Cash Refunds for payments and refunds, respectively. Because of this, we cannot follow these instructions to apply the invoice to the credit memo so everything ties out.

Does anyone else have experience refunding gift certificates in NetSuite using Cash Sales and Cash Refunds? If so, it would be much appreciated if you could share your process or point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance to anyone who responds.

Issues with refunding difference between Executive upgrade fee and rebate certificates

So my Executive Membership expired in January 2018, and I received two rebate checks: one in November 2017 and one in May 2018. They both totaled to less than $55 (upgrade fee at the time I paid for the membership).

I go to the Membership desk today at my local Costco, hoping they would refund the difference between the certificates and the upgrade fee.

First, they were confused why I got two checks in the first place. (I mentioned that the first check may have been for the first three quarters of the membership and the second for the final quarter, but they seemed to wave off my explanation.)

Next, they told me that I could only get the refund within the first calendar year of the membership, pointing to the 2017 issue date of the first check. Because I didn’t do it in 2017, they wouldn’t do it for me now.

Since the difference wasn’t much, I accepted their explanation for now. I asked that if I wanted to sign up for Executive membership in the future, then I should make sure to get the refund in the first year. To that, they mentioned that they only offer Executive Membership once to a member and that if I didn’t renew, then according to the person helping me, I wouldn’t be able to join as a member for 3 years. Her (I assume to be) supervisor next to her said that I’d actually be in the system forever and would never be able to sign up as a new customer. This is contrary to all information I’ve heard and that you have to wait at least 18 months to be considered a new member.

Are these policies familiar to all of you? Is this policy consistent with all Costcos or is there number I should call to still be able to get a refund/clarify policy?

Tax Refund Intercept Certification Question

Hello,

I received a letter stating I owed them $500. I reviewed my records and this is clearly an error on their part. I submitted the proper documents and numbers for my taxes and I always filled out the paper for Unemployment properly. No one ever answered the 410-767-2404 number but thankfully someone was kind enough at a different department to send me the overpayment waiver (https://www.dllr.state.md.us/employment/uibpcwaiver.shtml) and I filled that out. I mailed it to them, emailed it them, and I have heard nothing. I even sent check in emails to see if they ever received my letter.

I'm scared something bad will happen now its nearing December 1st. My friend went through the same situation and said that they never responded to him but he was cleared. Sadly my anxiety won't let that be enough.

Has anyone else had any luck with this? Thank you so much, this is a madness.

Refund for unactivated 24 Hour Fitness certificate

I purchased a certificate for a 2 year membership from Costco that I never redeemed. Now the certificates cannot be redeemed at all because 24 Hour Fitness stopped accepting them.

The certificate explicitly states that there is no expiration date. Therefore I believe I am entitled to a full refund for the unused certificate [because the certs effectively expired when 24 Hour Fitness stopped accepting them. -Edited to add.]

After getting strung along for several weeks, Costco finally told me that I need to have 24 Hour Fitness verify that I never activated the certificate.

The only way to contact 24 Hour Fitness is to use a web form or via US Post. I have done both and have not heard back, and given the dire financial state of the company I'm skeptical that they will ever respond.

Any suggestions?

Refusing to refund after a failed certification renewal

I reside in CA, the business resides in FL.

The organization that I'm dealing with certifies professionals for 5 years per renewal. For renewal process, cc info and proof of credits needed to be emailed. Upon this year's renewal ($400), the organization was proactive in charging me for the renewal but didn't renew my certification. In fact, they revoked it due to insufficient number of credits i failed to satisfy. They sent this AFTER the renewal date so I have no way to correct the documentation needed but at this point, I just want my money back. Now, they won't refund me and claims 'no refunds.' I dont believe it's right to process a renewal if I dont satisfy the requirements for renewal.

Unfortunately, Im passed the 90 day credit card chargeback as it was a back and forth dispute and my initiative to re-apply early. Are there any laws they're violating and if I have any standing leg here in small claims court. Thank you

I saw that they're one of the cheapest options at $125 for a certification and my gf is looking to get hers, I know veriheal has a money back guarantee but they're also $75 more expensive.

If they also have the guarantee then I'll definitely go with them but if not idk if it's worth it to risk losing that money as that'd be about a month's worth of product for us (assuming she uses a similar amount as me).

Testing Positive for COVID-19 on Arrivals PCR Test

Hey,

Has anyone had any experience or know someone that went through the experience of testing positive on the PCR test on arrival to Thailand?

Everything went super smooth for me up until the moment I got my results late last night local time, my results show 'Detected' which basically means 'Positive'. Currently, I've been told I have to wait in my hotel room and await further instruction. I have zero symptoms, feel absolutely fine, my PCR within the last 72 hours was negative. This makes no sense.

I've pretty much begged and pleaded with the hotel to do anything within their power to find out my options, as I absolutely do not want to waste 2 weeks of my trip being locked up in a hospital quarantine which is what I think is going to happen.

I've asked if I can be tested again as I believe it's a false positive. I mean the area at Phuket Airport they were testing us was hardly a controlled environment, there were just loads of cubicles, outdoors all next to each other with hundreds of people walking about standing right next to each other.

At the moment I'm pretty desperate and just trying to cling onto any hope that somehow I can get out of the hospital quarantine. Just waiting in my hotel room now for the hospital to call back the hotel and answer any questions. The hotel said maybe they will test me and let me go if negative, but not getting my hopes up at all, to be honest.

Any experiences people have had so far with a similar situation would be good to hear, how long you stayed in the hospital? If there are possibilities to leave before the 14 days, like doing an immediate test at the hospital again and hopefully showing negative? How much it cost in total (or how much you had to claim back on insurance)?

Thanks

------------------

UPDATE #1

I spoke to the hospital and they told me that the quarantine period is now 10 days (recently reduced from 14 days). Somehow the price still seems the same though (200k-275k Baht estimated).

I told them I'm completely asymptomatic with no symptoms and he said as an alternative option you can find out if an ASQ Hotel will take you for the 10-day quarantine period. Unfortunately so far my current hotel manager and I are unable to find an ASQ Hotel that will take me because I've already tested positive for COVID which is very annoying. I almost had a glimmer of hope that I could go into a hotel for 10 days for 60k Baht.

More updates to come as the day progresses. But currently looks like I might have

Coronavirus Megathread (Jan 2022): For travel-related discussion in the context of COVID-19

Happy New Year! Looks like there will be yet another year of travel challenges as the pandemic persists and we proceed through the Greek alphabet. Many are still looking to understand if, when, or how their travels might be feasible. Accordingly, /r/travel is continuing its megathreads on a monthly basis until the crisis dissipates.

In the interest of reducing the number of one-off questions, before you post a question about how to deal with your individual travel plans, consider whether your situation is adequately addressed by the following:

Are borders open? What entry or transit restrictions are in place? Will I need to quarantine?

A list of travel restrictions can be found in a number of sources, including from IATA. Note that IATA only deals with travel restrictions by air (so it will not speak to any land border restrictions or closures).

You may also do well to check out government and embassy sources from the destination country (and sometimes from your own embassy in the destination country). Because information can change on short notice, it is important to verify the latest information, ideally from government sources.

Several people have reported confusion with generic United emails regarding testing requirements beyond what is what required by the destination country. They are not requiring additional requirements beyond what is required by destination and transit points. Indeed, while Qantas has indicated that it will require all of its passengers to be vaccinated when it restarts long-haul travel, as of now, airlines' testing and vaccination requirements are currently merely about following the requirements of the destination and transit locations.

...in the US?

Last updated Jan. 1, 2022

All travelers, with limited exceptions (e.g. US citizens, green card holders, and their dependents), traveling to or transiting via the US need to be vaccinated, with appropriate proof.

All passengers permitted to travel to the US, regardless of vaccination status, need to produce a negative result from a viral test (which can include an antigen test) taken the day of or day before the first flight on a single ticket to the US. Alternatively, proof of recovery, in the for

In April for my birthday I got a gift certificate to a local tattoo artist’s shop. It’s just them and their apprentice, so there’s no manager I can complain to. I went to them with my idea in April and they said it should only be a few weeks… Now whenever I inquire they don’t even have a drawing yet, but assure me they will β€œget to it asap”. We’ve had this exact conversation at least 5 times now. They also constantly advertise time for walk ins/bookings on their Instagram, so I know they’re not booked out. This artist is new to the area, but had good reviews and portfolio, so this behavior was not expected.

I’m not sure what to do, and I’m beginning to feel like my friends wasted 500$ on the gift certificate, and the artist will just never keep blowing me off since they already have the money. What would you guys do?

EDIT: IDGAF about seeing the drawing. That’s what THEY’RE saying THEY need to do first before I can book. I know you’re not supposed to bug tattoo artists about seeing the drawing beforehand, this is not my first time getting tattoo’d

Trip report - 25 country speed run (OMICRON edition)

So I (21M) just did an intense solo speed run through 25 countries in Europe in 3 weeks plus two weeks of laid back Italy and France travel using Eurail pass. Tiny backpack with everything in it, the cheapest hostels, nothing fancy. Had a blast and had absolutely zero problems.

Honestly, Eurail is kind of overpriced and you have to pay extra for seat reservations or have to straight up buy some tickets (especially in France and Italy), and I wouldn’t recommend it in most cases because flights in Europe on discount airlines are so cheap. BUT if you qualify for the youth pass like I did (flights cost the same no matter your age) AND you are planning on going to a bunch of places it could potentially be worth it. For example, I took 89 trains total which probably would’ve cost at least $2000-3000+ without eurail, which was ~$560 for me for one month youth. But also had great experiences on 4 dirt cheap flights I took on easyjet, Ryanair, wizz air, they are perfectly fine and will get you where you need to go.

In total, I went to Italy, Switzerland, France, Spain, Monaco, San Marino, The Vatican, Austria, Germany, Czechia, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Slovenia, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Finland, and Malta. Had to get quite a few tests (like 6 total maybe?), had to fill out digital locator forms, never got COVID, never really had any problems.

Random recommendations for travel in age of COVID:

β€”Get vaccinated, including booster. You won’t get very far without vaccine, you can’t even take train or metro or go into grocery stores in some European countries here.

β€”get the digital EU covid certificate, not just CDC card if you can. You need proof of vaccination to do anything or even to take trains. I got my EU digital certificate through the Swiss website. Apparently you can convert your American vaccine card to digital passport in France for a fee as well. Edit: I think CDC card is also okay? But it’s definitely nice to have same format where it can be scanned as everyone else.

β€”Digital locator forms - fill these out online before you go to new countries if you want them. Required for a bunch of countries.

β€”FFP2 mask - try to get them before you go to Austria, Germany, Italy you need it for train

β€”Seat reservations for trains - you need it on a bunch of trains in Italy, France, Germany, Denmark. In general if you’re taking an international train you probably need to book

SERIOUS: This subreddit needs to understand what a "dad joke" really means.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

Slum lord won't let the company out of a 5 year lease. I get the building condemned.

To start: This is about the company I work for and a trip I took because I had to wire a building for a computer network because the building owner wouldn't.

Backstory:

Our company was moving a remote site to a new building. As the IT guy for the company, I was asked to look at the new building and get network ports marked out. The landlord refused to put in any low voltage lines, and we got quotes, but they were thousands of dollars. Enter me, my car, and 4 boxes of cat 6 plenum. It's about an 8 hour drive, and I was doing about 30 drops. Not a ton, but still, a few days work in someplace that's already built up. and its drop ceiling with insulation on top. Messy, itchy work.

Story:

Day 1. We get there Monday morning at the start of the month. It's actually a cool summer morning, and we're from further south, so no one notices the AC not working for about an hour. Slowly, the building begins heating up. It gets to 80 by noon, 85 at 3 PM. The rooms with floor to ceiling windows are greenhouses. It's absolutely miserable. We've been told by the workers still on site that the leasing company was told there was no AC in our building 3 weeks ago. The other thing is there are STILL WORKERS ON SITE. The building isn't completed. So much for being ready for a handover day 1.

Day 2. We're getting agitated. Its 80 degrees in the AM when we first walk in. Its sweltering. The other guy that came up with me is the facilities manager. He's screaming at people over the phone to fix the f**king AC. We're all exhausted from the heat by 3 PM. I found a 4 foot hole in the ducting when I opened the ceiling tile. The AC was blowing, but there was no cold air. We are told the compressor is broken.

Day 3. More of the same. Miserable in the morning, I'm finally getting the last lines punched in on the patch panel. The AC guys arrive about 10 AM. They finally fix the unit at 2 PM. We ask them what they did. They said "A lot of things" We again said "what did you do" the reply was "we can't tell the tenants". RED FLAG ALERT! We contacted our realtor, she said she would look into what was done. She sends an email later that night that says "they changed the refrigerant from r22 to r410a." I tell the facilities guy "No way dude. Thats like putting gas in a diesel motor, they'd have to change out the entire system. They didn't do that in 4 hours" They basically duct taped and wd-40'd that thing back together and it wil

Again, it is that time of the year, are you ready to claim tax deductions?

It is that time of the year, employers have started asking for proofs to approve tax deductions. Are you ready to claim tax deductions? Let's discuss about the options available.

HRA

If you are staying in a rented house, you should make use of this component. There is virtually no limit for HRA and you can use the calculators provided by your employers (or anything in web) to calculate your applicable limit.

HRA tax exemption is the minimum of the following 3 components:

  • total HRA as per salary slip
  • 40% (or 50% of basic, if you stay in "metro" cities) of your basic
  • actual rent paid - 10% basic

So if your HRA component is high and rent is equally high, your HRA exemption increases proportionately. It completely depends on one's pay structure

Food, Fuel & Mobile reimbursements/coupons.

This generally comes around 6-7K per month and you can claim close to 72-84K in tax exemptions.

80C - Insurance & Investments - 1.5L

Life Insurance Policies, 5 year FD, ELSS Funds, PPF, VPF, EPF/NPS are generally covered, in addition to ULIPs. Most of us utilize this to maximum.

80 CCD(1B) - NPS - 50K

Investing in NPS Tier 1 will get us another 50K in tax deductions, but lot of people are against NPS as it has 40% mandatory component.

80 CCD(2) - Corporate NPS - upto 7.5L

This is different from General NPS mentioned above. Corporate NPS can save taxes over and above General NPS. Lot of people are not aware of it and sometime gets confused with it.

For Corporate NPS, amount should be routed through employer like how we do for EPF. You just need to talk to your employer and set up a direct debit to NPS from your salary.

Lot of employers provide portal to manage salary structure and you can do this in few clicks.

You can contribute upto 10% of your salary towards corporate NPS and contribution upto 7.5L through this route is tax deduction. This contribution falls under 80CCD(2). Limit is 7.5 Lakhs per year.

80 D - Health Insurance - 75K

It is split into 2 components.

  1. You can claim a deduction up to β‚Ή25,000 per year for health insurance premiums
  2. If you have senior citizen parents and are paying premiums for them, you can claim an additional deduction of β‚Ή50,000 for this.

In total, you get 75K tax excemption.

80 DDB - Medical Treatment - 40-100K

Deduction on expenditure incurred for the treatment of dependent family members for diseases can be claimed under this. The ceiling for this deduction is β‚Ή40,000 whic

So I’m supposed to be sailing out of Cape Liberty January 9th but after the news about Puerto Rico I’m about ready to cancel. I’m on an 11 night cruise so ports are very important to me. That being said, I’m trying to hold out until last minute in hopes that Royal has to cancel the cruise due to restrictions/mass cancellations so I get a cash refund instead of credit.

How does the future cruise credit work? Is it like an email voucher with a code or is it just tied to your Royal account?

If I cancel should I go and cancel all of my excursions and packages first or will canceling the cruise automatically take care off all of that for me?

I booked through an agent so I’m assuming I have to cancel through that agent? That’s what worried me about holding out for the cruise line. Don’t want to wait until last minute and everybody is trying to contact the agent to cancel their cruises at the same time.

$122,204 GONE!

Inspired by posts here I decided to check on my progress.

Today I got a letter from FedLoan today letting me know they have certified my employment up to August 2021 and I still have 8 more payments to go. I submitted another employment certification in Dec (switching jobs), so I figured the letter was just letting me know my other certification finally went through. (I certify every 6 months) I logged in to just check progress and see if my Dec certification went through.

Imagine my surprise when I logged in and saw $0!! I immediately started sobbing. And checking all the things to see if it is a glitch or legit. Loan pay off letter says $0. I can't access any payment history or PSLF tracking payments. Phone tree says $0. Student aid site says $122,204.

I didn't apply for forgiveness yet because by my calculations the soonest I would be eligible would be January (there were a few payments made in 2016 while I was in forbearance that I asked to have reviewed back in April 2020 and have been checking on regularly). FedLoan had me eligible this April without those payments counting.

I am just blown away that this moment RIGHT NOW could be the moment I have been waiting 14 years for. I graduated in 2007, I was pretty quick to get into FedLoan and get my loans in the right payment plan but due to all sorts of kerfuffles (being in forbearance several times!) and not being very responsible early on I have been working so hard at this for so very long. These loans have dictated all aspects of my life (which I am sure you all can relate to!). I'm not even sure how this will affect my life, but I am so excited to find out!

Keep the course, friends. Forgiveness is out there! And it feels so good to be on this side of things! Thank you to this sub for all the inspiration and hope! Posts like these kept me going when it felt like this process wouldn't end!

I am rooting for all of you!

Edited to add: I called and my loans are forgiven and that was done on the 5th. If you're at all close to forgiveness I recommend you login and check. I have asked for a letter of my payments to see how the count was off (and understand why I'm due a refund).

Edited to add: the letter I got saying I had 8 payments left was generated on 12/30/2021. And my loans were forgiven on 1/5/2022. I have no idea how they found 8 qualifying payments in six days, but I am so grateful!!

UPDATED - Testing Positive for COVID-19 on Arrivals PCR Test

Hey guys, I thought I'd just post my final Day 10 update from my experience of Quarantine in Phuket to give it a little bump to the top of the list, I'm not a long-time or experienced Reddit user, so not sure if this is normal protocol, but regardless thought it would be good to get something to the top of the that might get seen and help more people. This is only the latest Day 5 update that has quite a lot of important bits in it, but to see the full story, journey and experience from the Day One original post you can click the LINK HERE.

UPDATE #5 - Day 10 - 08/12/21 (THE BIG DAY)

So guys... The day is finally upon us. I sit here writing this at 21:26pm. I have exactly 2 hours 34 minutes until I'm allowed to sprint out of this place. One of the first things I want to say is that I am so glad I packed like I was going to shit my pants every single day for my 1 week holiday in Dubai before I arrived here. Because I AM RUNNING OUT OF PANTS but I made it to the end with just one pair left for tomorrow lol. I never asked so I don't know if possible, but surely you can do some sort of washing here... Who knows.

First things first what most people want to know. My hospital bill was around 206,000 Baht / Β£4600 GBP. This was on the lower end of the estimate since I refused some treatments and I also stopped all meals and took care of that stuff myself. And my insurance covered it ALL. Not once did they try to get out of paying anything, no questions asked. Settled the whole thing. I even had a very open and honest conversation with them about the hospital trying to just add things on for the sake of it because it was going through insurance or I was foreign, they thanked me for saving them a bit of money lol.

Onto my experience over the past 8 days since my last update. All things considered, it's really not been that bad at all. Mostly thanks to the ridiculous amount of work I've had to get on with, it's really kept my days busy and I'm used to working long ass hours in my home office anyway. So thanks to having my laptop, phone, Wifi and even my Switch (which I didn't even play once) it's gone super quick. This makes me worry about how quick the next 6-7 weeks are going to go before I have to go home... But I'm grateful to have caught up on some work I was behind on and hopefully, this will just free me up to enjoy Thailand a littl

Coronavirus Megathread (Dec 2021): For travel-related discussion in the context of COVID-19

The year 2021 is drawing to a close, but as we proceed through the Greek alphabet, the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation continues to have a major effect on travel, with many now looking to understand if, when, or how their travels might be feasible.

Last updated Dec. 27, 2021

All travelers, with limited exceptions (e.g. US citizens, green card holders, and their dependents), traveling to or transiting via the US need to be vaccinated.

For flights departing prior on or before Dec. 30 (UTC-5), foreign nationals (regardless of vaccination status) are prohibited from entering or transiting the US if they have been in or transited via Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zimbabwe in the preceding 14 days. Exceptions to this rule include green card holders and some family members of US ci
