Finding values of a quartic function with differentiation

Hello all, this is the question I am having trouble with:

A quartic function f has the rule f(x)=ax^4 + bx^3 + cx^2 + dx. The graph has a stationary point at (1,1) and passes through the point (-1,4).

Find a, b and c in terms of d.

I'm pretty sure I have to use systems of equations, but I can only think of two equations to use and there is 3 variable I need to find.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks :).

Using OpenGL, What's the "correct" way define curved polynomial surfaces, up to quartic order? Using opengl, I'd like to interpolate continuous functions for my faces into either a mesh, or a bunch of square faces. Point me in the right direction?

I'm using java, but I could switch to C/C++ if it matters.

I'm just starting, and I can make cubes and pyramid shapes, using glBegin and glVertex2f. If I know polynomial expressions for curved surfaces, is there a built-in function that can break them into a mesh or grid? If I need to write my own function, what functions would be useful inside that function?

Thanks in advance. I don't want to spend hours either doing it the wrong way, or reinventing the wheel.

Help! Confused on finding the multiplicity and zero of a quartic function

So I've been going over a review test and I'm confused on one problem.

I have to find the zeros and multiplicity of the zeros of this quartic function and I think I'm overthinking it. This is the equation:

f(x)=x^4 -25x^2 + 144

Now, the answer for it is x= (+-)4 with multiplicity of 1 and x=(+-)3, multiplicity of 1.

I'm confused on how to arrive at that answer. I might just be burnt out or missing something completely obvious but any help you guys can give me would be amazing!

Thank you to picado for teaching me that x^2 = u

Why is finding the roots of a polynomial function so important?

Why is finding the roots or solutions to any function so important? Moreover why work on solving something equal to zero?

Why do mathematicians go to such great lengths to find the zero’s(solutions) of polynomials like creating the quadratic formula, or worse: the quartic formula.

How to calculate quartic regression manually/by hand

I am writing a math paper for school and in one portion I have two sets of data and I need to calculate the polynomial regression for the data. Using online resources, I discovered that quartic regression would be the best in order to model the data.

How would I go about calculating the quartic regression manually? Using a GDC it's quite easy to do with the QuartReg() function, but I have to calculate it manually at least once to prove that I understand how it works.

How would I do this?

Are there any calculators online that can do multivariable polynomial regression?

I have a survey with 2 input variables and an output. I want to test out various degrees for the function and see which one has the highest r2 value (i.e. maybe it's a multivariable input cubic function or maybe it's multivariable linear.)

Unfortunately, I can't find any calculators to do this online (except for multivariable linear, but I want to test it for other degrees including quartic) Could someone help? What's the formula for multivariable cubic/quadratic regression? I could possibly solve it myself then.

Thank you so much for whoever takes the time out to help :)
