God, I fucking missed Kyle so much. I'm so glad this is pretty much all behind him. The double guest shows were nice and all, but nothing can replace Kyle's storytelling.
I was talking to a Tea Party friend who told me I did not know my history and that I should read some "Chuck" Colson books. I read his wikipedia article and found out he was involved in the Watergate scandal in a major way. He converted to Christianity in a majorly publicized way. He had his prison sentence reduced and got an early release for "family problems". Some speculation is that he was released because his son was caught with marijuana and needed his father's help or something.
This seemed suspicious to me, so I decided to look into his Prison Fellowship non profit organization. This is what he uses to promote himself as a righteous person these days. Their annual report for 2010 shows that more than 5,000 prisoners have been ministered to, with 215 first time conversions to Christ, amongst it's many paltry efforts to actually help prisoners. Take a look for yourself, all these reports are on their official website.
Next I took a look at their official financial statements for 2009-2010 and found out this document does not match their 2009-2010 IRS 990 form for 2009 which clearly seems to show this "ministry" seems to pull in or operate in excess of $45,000,000! To me, something seems VERY FISHY! They only converted 215 prisoners to Christ in one year, and it cost them $45,000,000 to do it? Also in the IRS documents, you can see 11 people, including Charles Colson himself, claim over $100,000 in personal income, all claiming to work 40 hours a week for this "ministry".
Their most expensive thing I can see that actually seems to be a large effort is that they claim to have bought a little over 300,000 presents for the children of prisoners. Probably good PR. These are usually donated gifts and I cannot tell if their value is part of the $45,000,000 they say they operate on.
All of this is probably legal, which enrages me more! This seems like a HUGE money scam! Most of the expenditures seem to be on telling their millions on non incarcerated radio listeners and newsletter subscribers how righteous this ministry is... and on
