A list of puns related to "Powers of Horror"
Whether itβs female empowerment or just a badass woman/women going crazy and fucking shit up. Gimme some recs!
Iβm doing Girl Power Wednesdays for 31 days of horror. So far I have 2 Iβve never seen: ginger snaps and audition. And one I have: Teeth. Bonus points if itβs a recommendation that will be great for Halloween night too.
It's one of my favorite little things in the show.
I love VR. Have PSVR from day1 (PRO day1 that is). I've got my VR legs. Strong enough to jump in any PSVR title sans comfort options. I'll take on any game no problem .... except Horror. Horror is simply too scary for me (57yr old gamer talking here). Probably because of my imagination which runs away with the strong effect of VR.
I can deal with Rush of Blood probably because I have 2 shotguns. But when it comes to horror without any defense I have to bail out. I could sit through the Kitchen, but Resident Evil 7's Beginning Hour demo was creepy as hell with those mannequins. I took of my headset:)
I bought (sale) Paranormal Activity but didn't make it beyond the lobby/hall, too afraid of possible jump scares ahead. Yet Killing Floor: Incursion poses less of a problem because, yes, I have guns to defend myself. Doom VFR not even is scary, because, well I now have massive guns:)
Comes along this 4$ (sale) title AFFECTED: The Manor ... Just the odd 20 minute walk, or so they (others) say. I force myself in thinking that I might be able to do this. So, I started up AFFECTED: The Manor last weekend. Granted, it was late friday night, dark, and everybody else was asleep. Perfect for VR Horror:)
Goes without saying that the experience was a literally hair raising affair the whole 20+ minutes. Worse even, I played most of it with my eyes nearly closed, just to avoid the jump scares. The audio cues gave the feedback so I could open my eyes when I guessed the scene had become quiet again.
Anyway, while playing I was of course partly rational, but still the effect of VR horror is so strong that it evokes physical hair raising effects. Talking to myself 'It is just a game, just a game' didn't prevent my body from reacting the way it did. Hair raising.
That is the power of VR
You walk up to a painting. When close enough you read 'Behind you'. And in VR behind you is really behind you and you are afraid to turn around ... Now that is an effect which simply is impossible in the flat world.
Cheers, and happy VR gaming:)
Title. It's something I read as a kid (middle school age? So like 10 years ago or so) from a collection of short stories. I want to say it was in one of those "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" books, but I'm almost certain that's wrong. I don't think the story was written by anyone who's a big name in sci-fi, but I honestly don't recall one way or another.
I don't remember any details about where in space this kid was, but I think it was "far, far away", and he was just on some transport shuttle that crashed, and he was the only survivor.
Reposting because I still haven't been able to find anything on this and I'd really like help.

I read some of the books when I was in middle school so it was the late 90s. I donβt remember if they were recently published at the time. The stories seemed to start as one off stories but eventually the protagonists meet and have to save the town from a monster invasion. They team up with an outcast monster and he performs a ritual to tie them all to certain monsterous abilities.
Some story lines I remember. Kid loves visiting a nearby cave/tourist trap, finds some strange rocks in it that he canβt identify. They birth acidic slime/amoeba creatures that light chases off/hardens. They combine and βeatβ the guy who runs the cave tours before escaping into the caves.
Kid has an βauntβ that it turns out is an alien his dad is helping hide from the govenrnment. She has scales all over her skin that lift and lower as she breaths but otherwise looks human. Gets shot in the shoulder.
Kid gets haunted by a mechanical poltergeist because a virus is uploaded into a game he is playing by someone else and due to his defeating the author of the virus in the game the author of the virus kicks something and electrocuted himself to death causing him to become the poltergeist. The kid ends up having to delete all copies of the virus to βappeaseβ the poltergeist before it kills him.
Some kids are investigating a Bermuda Triangle like area outside of town and get sucked in, it ends up being some sort of multidimensional bug hive and they almost get eaten but manage to escape.
Kids are cruising in their dadβs car and accidentally βhitβ a ghost car, passing through it. The ghosts demand the dadβs car as payment for the damage to their car and take it. If the ghosts donβt have all the things for the car, I.e. pink slip, spare keys, they canβt control it. End up losing position of it after one of the kids throws the pink slip out the window as a paper airplane. At one point they turn the car into a longboat and go to a ghost pirate ship in the bay I think? In this one I remember pictures in the middle or back of the book of things from the story. Particularly one picture of the paper airplane pink slip that defeated the ghosts.
Once all the kids meet and compare stories they find out that some brothers from back in the towns history can somehow control the monsters plaguing the town and one brother is dead and the other is still alive somehow.
I have been looking for this series off and on for years now and canβt find it. I am beginning to think I either made the wh
