China and India are far and away the world's biggest polluters. India has a literal mountain of rubbish (trucks can drive to the summit), and in China it's legal to (and happens everywhere) to poach the wildlife into extinction.
If these so called friends of the earth really cared about anything other than political advancement, they'd attempt to tackle the issues in these countries. Let's face it - they might actually be able to make a discernible difference if they went there. India produces more annual waste than the countries of Europe combined.
Sadly though, when there is no power to be gained they will just prey on the ignorant.
A real difference can only be made when we begin holding other nations accountable - we are already doing the best we can here in the west and now people are just getting frustrated with being told they're fucking everything up by using a goddamn plastic straw.
My girlfriend and I both received and signed job offers at an amazing school in Yiwu. Two of our colleagues from a previous job have been working at said school for almost 3 years now and have literally 0 complaints about work circumstances.
Both of us are teachers by profession and are interested in saving money for the future (buying a house back in South Africa). To the same extent, working in China will be a means to add experience to our resumes and this specific school will afford us the former. We will always work in educational sectors.
I just have this weird feeling about leaving for China and something doesn't sit right. Most probably because there is nothing positive about China in Western Media, nor on this subreddit for that matter. I have educated myself on China and the situation there, I understand it's something completely different than what I'm used to but I'm honestly fearful of what might happen within the next few years. Not the cultural side, or general anxieties of living in a strange and new country, but rather that the whole world is going through a change and we're not sure what the end result might be.?
So, what is your opinion on working in China under the current political climate and do you believe it to be a feasible and safe plan for the next 1-3 years. This is one of a few options for bettering our financial lives and also seeing parts of China, Asia and even Australia. We live in a 3rd world country ourselves and see this as a means to literally build a foundation for our family.

I was reading this article:
https://www.scmp.com/news/hong-kong/law-and-crime/article/3017627/protesters-and-police-fight-pitched-battles-late-night
And it got me wondering whether the protests would stop even if China killed the extradition bill entirely.
and if so,
Doesn't need to be likely, just something that China would even consider to be on the table for negotiating. Obviously some stuff like Hong Kong Independence are pretty far outside the realm of likelihood, but what other bargaining chips are on the table?
