A list of puns related to "Piano Concerto No. 3 (Beethoven)"
Where had Bethoveen's Piano Concerto No. 3 on C Minor been all my life?! Listened to it for the first time about a month ago and I still can't get enough. Read it was inspired by Mozart's own piano concerto in C Minor. Amazing piece.
Followed by a general post last week regarding to the personal ranking of the Beethoven's piano concertos. Today, I think it will be good to start a post for discussing Beethoven Piano Concerto No.3 simply because I am also preparing for a concert next year and I am analysing and learning this piece. I will start other concertos or solo/chamber pieces if people are willing to discuss.
This piece is considered the first step towards romanticism with the full exploration of piano including expanding the piano composition range and technique, as well as a big cadenza at the end of the first movement. However, what catches me is it still follows the Classical period's structure and form with repeating motif throughout the piece. It is the only concerto that is written in a minor key - C minor, very strong and powerful key that Beethoven also used in the fifth symphony, piano variations, Pathetique sonata.
Recently I've discovered Beethoven's Piano Concerto No.3 and I absolutely fell in love with it. However, while I was trying to find "the best" interpretation of the piece I figured that there was a part where different pianists were playing differently. I mean not as style, but the notes of whole part were different. There are two examples :
From FazΔ±l Say : ( starts around 12:50) http://youtu.be/02bxAzWn0JM?t=12m45s
From Krystian Zimmerman: (again ,starts around 12:50) http://youtu.be/k46fdX_3xDM?t=12m45s
Now my question is: Is this something that Beethoven wanted to happen ? Did he leave this part for the pianist to improvise, or did FazΔ±l just changed that part ? Because I watched 3 other pianists' video, and they played it the same as Zimmerman.
Thank you.
