A list of puns related to "Pertussis vaccine"
I'm trying to find out which pertussis-containing vaccines are indicated for use with pregnant women.
Many countries around the world recommend the vaccination of pregnant women to protect the newborn baby during their first months of life against pertussis infection before their vaccination course starts. This type of programme has shown impressive effectiveness and safety results.
I know that in the EU both the Boostrixtetra and Repevax vaccines are indicated for use in pregnant women. Several other pertussis vaccine exist in this region (Infanrix hexa, Hexyon, Vaxelis) but they don't have the same indication.
What I'm not sure about is other vaccines that I'm not familiar with. Does anyone know which pertussis-containing vaccines can be used with pregnant women, please?
I've got a list of many different vaccines here (perhaps not exhaustive, and it's also written in French: https://www.mesvaccins.net/web/vaccines) and I can individually search for indications in pregnant women, but that might take a while!

Although this vaccine is effective against the target disease, it is simultaneously effective in increasing susceptibility to unrelated infections. And this seems to parallel Covid vaccines, showing how it is possible, for even decades, to be deluded about vaccine effectives until you actually perform a proper study and look at the numbers from both sides of the efficacy coin.
Every time I see conservative arguments about why there shouldnβt be mandates for covid vaccines And sayβ my body my choiceβ why are they okay with the other mandates vaccines? Shouldnβt it be your choice to get the other vaccines?
Is it just me or is this a gigantic obvious point no one is raising?
So, vaccines like the pertussis vaccine contain a subunit of the pathogen, which the body produces an immune response to.
mRNA vaccines, like the ones currently developed to provide immunity against COVID-19, contain the mRNA that produces a modified spike protein found on the virus. Once this protein is constructed, the mRNA is destroyed.
My question: After the modified spike protein is produced and the mRNA is destroyed, is it incorrect to say that the mRNA vaccine acts just like a subunit/conjugate/recombinant type vaccine? They both involve the body responding to subunits of the target pathogen, but both simply have different methods of delivering the subunit, right?

Itβs pretty much what it sounds like. I am 34 + 5 and my OB highly recommends getting the pertussis vaccine (whooping cough) again even though Iβve just had it two years ago when my nephew was born. The thought being it is for the baby not for me. Both my husband and I were fully vaccinated for Covid in March and were a little sick the day after the second dose. For whatever reason, the pertussis vaccine has me feeling like HOT TRASH. I woke up in the middle of the night teeth chattering and chills and barely able to hold myself steady enough to go to the bathroom. Spoke to the on call doctor at 3:30am and was instructed to take Tylenol every 4-6 hours as I had a temperature of 100.8. Fever broke at 5:30 and I have spent the literal entire day in bed with body and headache, with the exception of venturing out for precautionary Covid and Flu tests (both negative). Our little one is coming soon and all I can see are the things I need to get done and I can barely move. Anyone else have this experience?
Hello! Just recently found this sub and was curious if anyone else went through a similar experience.
I'm 30+2 and live in Quebec. I'm getting my pertussis (coqueluche) vaccine on June 1st and was told if I wanted to get the covid vaccine to do it either 2 weeks before or 1 month after the pertussis vaccination.
I was able to get an appt for the covid vax this Thursday which is a little over 2 weeks apart from the pertussis vax. I'm within the guidelines but I'm still a bit nervous that they're so close together?
I know I could just wait, but I'm also eager to get vaccinated as soon as possible haha. I'm calling my dr today to ask for advice, but I was just curious if anyone had already been in a similar situation and how it went for you, or just for any reassurance in general.
TIA!!
To mix up the vaccine talk -- does anyone know of a reference showing the impact (or lack of) that Humira has on the Pertussis vaccine efficacy? I have good literature/scientific references on other common vaccines showing which are not impacted by TNFi/Humira and which are, but I haven't found this one yet. I messaged my rheum office last week but they are VERY slow to respond on stuff like this.
Background: I'm pregnant and going off of Humira for the last trimester. I have to get a TDaP shot soon, but was given some wiggle room as to timing. I am trying to find out if I should wait a few weeks for the Humira levels in my system to go down first, or if I should just get the shot now (if there's no impact on efficacy). I had a TD shot before going on Humira last year and that's all good, it's only the Pertussis piece of it that is important now.
EDIT: I think I found what I was looking for! It's summarizing data from just IBD patients getting Pertussis vaccinations, but Table 2 of this article summarizes the impacts of TNFi/Humira on many common vaccines as tested in folks w different conditions: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6330697/

As an infant I had seizures after getting the Pertussis vaccine and could not receive any more doses after that. I asked my PCP if it was safe for me to get the COVID19 vaccine and she said βit should be fine.β Note: I have had every other vaccine including DT (without pertussis) and have been completely fine.
So, I went to Walgreens to receive my first dose today and the pharmacist who was administering the shot turned me away. She was not comfortable giving it to me because she said it would be better for me to get it in a hospital setting. I am now super scared to get the vaccine, so please anyone with knowledge on this exact subject please let me know what I should do.
M31, 185cm, 80kg, Caucasian, Australia. So while I fully intend on speaking to my doctor about this, I wanted to get some additional opinions. My mother says that I only had the first round of pertussis vaccinations as a newborn because of a bad reaction which was in her words "fever convulsions". This is all she remembers and can't give any more details, but says I should be wary getting the vaccine as an adult. While this was far from life threatening anaphylaxis, is this something I should be worried about as an adult receiving the vaccination? Or is this a relatively common side effect in babies?
According to https://immunizebc.ca/pregnancy the Pertussis (Tdap) vaccine is now free for pregnant people!
My wife and I were discussing if we wanted to pay for the vaccine or not. Turns out it just became free for pregnant people! That discussion is now over yay!
Hello! We have a 4.5 month old son who just had his second DTAP and is due to have another at 6 months.
Obviously no vaccines are 100% effective, that said I'm wondering when a "sufficient" amount of pertussis immunity should kick in for a normal parent to be ok with their kid being held by a family member with an unknown status of their adult TDAP vaccine.
I've heard mixed reports about whether babies have a significant amount of immunity 2 weeks after the first DTAP shot at 2 months, verses needing to wait 2 weeks after the second/third shot.
Also, regarding adult immunity, is pertussis immunity provided by a once-in-a-lifetime TDAP vaccine when someone is a teenager, or does it require a 10-year booster shot?
Thank you.

I'm 25 weeks pregnant and the doctor told me that I would be getting a pertussis (I thought the doc said it was for chicken pox but I'm guessing we need both our pertussis and chicken pox vaccines) vaccine at my next appointment and told us that it is very highly recommended that he gets one as well to help protect the baby. My boyfriend said he had one as a child and didn't need it but we both told him how you can lose immunity and with him being over 30, it's a great idea to just make sure and get it again. Once we left the office, he told me again that he already had the vaccine and wasn't going to get it again. I told him that the baby could die if she gets it as an infant and we both need the shot just to be safe. He said he'll think about it. The doctor also told us both to get our flu shots. I got mine. He didn't.
I was looking forward to some upcoming concerts. He put his foot down and said I couldn't go to them because it's not a safe environment for a pregnant woman. I could get elbowed or pushed and fall and hurt the baby. He bought me a car because I fell twice on the ice walking to the bus that I always took to work. He clearly cares about the safety of the baby. He is not anti-vax and has a record of his vaccines in the top drawer.
My boyfriend is very health conscious and goes to the doctor over every little thing so I know fear of doctors isn't a thing. I watched him get a spinal tap when we first started dating two years ago and he had no issue after seeing the needle so I know it's not a needle thing.
How do I convince him that he needs to get this taken care of for the safety and health of our baby? I don't want to bury my infant daughter while he's saying how he is sorry and just didn't think it would happen... I know it's a pretty low chance that it will happen but why risk it when just a simple shot can help?
tl;dr: bf won't get ob recommended vaccine before baby is born
Update! He just got home and I brought it up again. He went and got his vax record and said it didn't even say anything about him having the pertussis or chicken pox vaccine, along with multiple others. I said good, you don't have any sort of argument anymore. He said he will get all them. I said "you put your foot down cuz you were worried the baby could get hurt. I'm putting my foot down because I'm worried the baby will die." He said he will get any shots the baby doctor says he will need. Yay!
I received the tdap vaccine this morning at 31 wks. Felt ok until about 5 hrs later, now having some symptoms for some time. Anyone else have challenges with this vaccine?
I'm entering the accelerated nursing program. I'm currently in the process of trying to see my doctor to fill out my immunization forms. I'm reading the forms myself for now and I noticed that there's a section that asks for a Pertussis vaccine at "Age 18 years or older".
Can somebody explain this to me? I believe I received this vaccine in my mid-teens but does this mean I have to get another booster now? I believe my question also applies to other health care professional programs.
I was wondering if anybody here would have any information regarding this. I'm entering a health care professional program this September and one of my requirements is that I need to have a dose of the pertussis vaccine after age 18. Is this possible during COVID and if so, where?
I come from a long line of doctors. My mom basically asked if we could have extra vaccinations each year. My tdap was ten years overdue when I went to college. My school didnβt seem to require a booster and no one recommended I get it. I could afford it and I still didnβt get it.
Well. Sophomore year I got pertussis aka whooping cough (the mild version because I had been vaccinated 15 or 20 years ago). The mild version was the sickest I have ever been. I still lost my balance and fell to the ground or vomited because I was coughing so hard and for so long.
That is all. Thank you for coming to my ted talk.
