A list of puns related to "Ori and the Blind Forest"
I loved Hollow Knight, itβs my favorite game, especially for the cute and dark fairytaleish artstyle, the super clean, layered 2D graphics and the sense of wonder I felt while exploring the map. The challenge also definitely added to that experience.
On the other hand I didnβt enjoy Ori at all. I didnβt like the 2,5D Artstyle, it also was way too full of VFX and seemed like it couldnβt decide if it wanted to be cartoonish or not. I did not enjoy the combat and platforming by any means and, well, me enjoying neither the gameplay not the graphics really hindered me from enjoying the exploration as well.
Do you have any game to recommend to me if I absolutely adore Hollow Knight but dislike Ori?
Oh and before somebody recommends them, I have played the Dark Souls trilogy and Cuphead and I enjoyed those games very much.

>Keep in mind that we've been working with our engine for a good 10 years now and went through multiple releases and a sequel now. A lot of the optimizations we did for Will of the Wisps ended up in the Blind Forest version for Switch, so that was a nice side-effect.
>Another thing people maybe don't notice immediately is that Ori's sprites were animated at 30fps on Xbox/PC, but for Switch we were actually able to update the animations to 60fps due to all the optimizations, so technically Ori actually even animates a bit smoother on Switch than on the other platforms :)
Been hearing good things about the port's performance (1080p docked, 720p handheld, 60FPS for both), but it's kind of awesome to me that they were even able to update the animations for 60 frames a second instead of the original 30. The folks at Moon seem like tech wizards.
(Also, Ori is a damn good game. Try the demo at the very least. It's awesome.)
Without going into spoiler territory I just wanted to say how incredible the opening sequence was in Ori was not expecting that level of emotion, the artwork and music are just incredible. Suffice to say I am now fully invested in completing the story.
Absolutely fantastic game, I'm no pro at metroidvanias (died like 400 times) but I adore this game all the same and at parts it made me feel like a badass.
Very visually appealing game and theres parts where it sorta hit me in the feels. Power ups and upgrades are essential in this game, duh it's a Metroidvania and you'll never get stuck via map design. I did however get stuck at some puzzle parts and died alot but the game doesn't punish you for that. Kinda reminds me Celeste in that sense.
Thanks to Microsoft for putting their game on the Switch where I feel it does much better. Will definitely be picking up the sequel, Ori and the Will of the Wisp, and I hope it releases on the Switch.
Played primarily in Docked mode with my pro controller. My 2 complaints are the portable mode screen size is Abit too small and it was the first game for me ever to crash but it was damn near the end of the game and I didn't have to backtrack much.
I think $20 is a very fair asking price. Of course it's also on other platforms so if you find it cheaper id recommend that.

I just finished the definitive edition on Steam, and really enjoyed my time with it. At first the platforming is a little too floaty and imprecise, and the combat using just the spirit flame is not engaging at all. But towards the end of the game when you get Ori's full kit it becomes so fluid. Navigating the map is a joy and combat using the bash to redirect enemies and their projectiles is just a fantastic mechanic.
That being said it takes too much time to ramp up to that, and there isn't enough gameplay where you have the full kit. The visuals and soundtrack are excellent, but early and mid gameplay are a bit lackluster, it only really comes together at the end.
Anyways, I've seen a lot of praise for this game and while I mostly agree that the game is excellent in a lot of respects it doesn't quite live up to the good things I've heard.
First things first: Both of these games are fantastic metroidvania games, and I greatly enjoyed both, but for different reasons.
Hollow Knight presented a GIGANTIC map for the player to explore and literally get lost in. The player is pretty much free to go anywhere and complete most areas in the order desired. This allowed a lot of freedom to the player, but I actually feel like the level design and direction of the game suffered a bit as a result of this freedom.
In contrast, Ori generally laid out a destination and the player would pick up abilities along the way to help accomplish that goal. I appreciated this because it meant the areas could be designed with that ability in mind. In contrast, a lot of Hollow Knightβs areas didnβt necessarily need the abilities I found there; a lot of the areas were just rooms to connect the rest of the map together.
Hollow Knight has boss fights whereas Ori has puzzles that need to be solved and subsequent timed escapes of the area. I enjoyed both, but thought some bosses in Hollow Knight were tedious (Mantis Lords and Soul Master, particularly since the save points are far and I died a lot). Dung Defender and Zote were particularly fun and memorable. Oriβs escape sequences were a lot of fun with frantic music imploring me to hurry up only to inevitably die, but saves at the start of the sequences kept it from being annoying.
Both games feature great soundtracks, and Iβve spent hours listening to both, but I feel Oriβs is the more beautiful of the two. Hollow Knightβs Queenβs Gardens and City of Tears are great on their own, but the entire Ori soundtrack works around its central theme, blending it to form emotion, action, and even a sense of urgency during appropriate times in the game.
As far as value and replay value, thereβs a lot more content in Hollow Knight. I put in over 30 hours into Hollow Knight, whereas Ori took me about 10 hours. However, despite enjoying both games, I do feel like I enjoyed Oriβs quality to Hollow Knightβs quantity.
On the graphics front, I definitely liked Oriβs visuals more. I donβt often see games as art, but Ori was so beautiful and the music was so good that I found myself seeing it as such.
tl,dr: Play both. However, if you can only play one: if you like exploration or boss fights, play Hollow Knight. If you like aesthetics, a linear story, puzzles, and a thematic soundtrack, play Ori and the Blind Forest.

Hello! I really like both of these games, so I thought I'd makr a discussion thread to see people's opinions on both games. Keep in mind that this is not a recommendation post, but more of a discussion about which game is best. Anyways, here is my opinion.
Graphics/presentation:
Both games are stunning. This is one of the highlights of both games. With so many indies opting for pixel art these days, these are a breath of fresh air. Hollow knight has a beautiful handdrawn artstyle with great animations. The characters are unique and charming, and the areas are connected seamlessly. Ori on the other hand has a breathtaking 2.5D asthetic with lush environments and gorgeous animations, backgrounds and lighting effects. The cutscenes are also beautifully intertwined with the gameplay. I'd say that while I prefer hollow knight's artstyle, ori's graphics are simply more jaw-dropping and impressive, so I have to give this category to ori. But still, very close.
Winner: Ori
Music and sound design:
Again, both are incredible. They both have soundtracks that are pure ear candy, and use leitmotifs in clever ways. There's not a single bad song in each of the soundtracks. It's clear that ori had a larger budget for the music, but I still think that hollow knight's soundtrack is more memorable. There are so many great tracks like greenpath, hornet, city of tears, sealed vessel etc. I also really like the voices of the NPC's in hollow knight. They speak so gibberish and it's adorable. I think hollow knight is the winner here, but again, only by a margin.
Winner: Hollow Knight
Gameplay and exploration:
This is where the games get very different. Ori is focused on platforming, whereas hollow knight is focused on combat and exploration. The latter represents the metroidvania genre better, because it's so easy to get lost in the world. This might be a bad thing to some, but I love it. Ori is very linear compared to hollow knight, and also has some great puzzles and platforming segments. But hollow knight just has such seamless and great combat with many abilities. Ori's combat was more or less spamming a button or using the bash. Also, ori has, in my opinion, an unnecessarily large amount of abilities. Not to mention, hollow knight is much, much harder, has more post game and takes much longer to complete. The clear winner for me is hollow knight, but it depends on whether one prefers platformers or hardcore metroidvanias.
Winner: Hollow Knight.

... keep reading on reddit β‘Iβve been thinking about buying ori and the will of the wisp and Iβm wondering if I need to play blind forest first? Is there a story or something to follow that I need to play this to understand or properly enjoy will of the wisp?
I m thinking about buy it , because he is in a offert
I am excited becouse Ori and The Will of Wisps is coming and so I was thinking to myself "I am glad i have beaten Ori and The Blind Forest, so now i can jump into WOTW." But then i thought "did I really completed it when i didnt beat One Life diff?" I need to know what you guys think.
tl;dr Did i really complete Ori and The Blind Forest if i didnt beat One life difficulty?
Preparing myself for downvotes here, but as someone who loves adventure/castlevania-esque games, Hollow Knight was extremely overrated and boring to me.
Will I feel the same way about Ori? I kind of get the same game vibe from watching videos about it, but I do enjoy the colorful and flashy atmosphere of Ori.
Hello, I pre-ordered Ori and the Blind Forest on the Switch and I know it will be released on the 27 of September but I don't know what time will it be released
Hi everyone!
I wanted to play this game ever since I first saw it, there was something about the visuals and sound that made me interested in the game. However it wasn't until recently that I actually picked up the game and from the moment I started I was just hooked!
The game started with a beginning i was not ready for. I streamed the entire game and my chat was as shocked as I was with how sad the beginning felt but we quickly realized that it will all picked up and be worth it. The visuals, the sound, the ambient and how terrifying it felt to be this little creature running around the dangers of the forest was enough to keep us engage and entertained for many hours. Everyday I came back to stream I wanted to keep getting better at the game and more importantly I wanted to unfold the story and see how it was all going to end.
By the end of the game I had mixed feelings, I understood what was happening and at the same time I was conflicted. I am glad the game ended how it did and I am very much looking forward for the The Will Of The Wisps. I can only hope the story is going to be as good as the first one. I am going to play this again to do some map completion as there are some things I definitely missed.
I want to know your experience with the game so leave them in the comments of this thread and if you guys want to see my entire journey (all 400 deaths) I did uploaded as small chucks of Let's Plays over on my YouTube channel or if you want to play Will Of The Wisps live then check out my Twitch channel, I would love to have you all there with me for our next adventure!

I'm about finished with Hollow Knight on Switch, which was my first venture into Metroidvania and difficult games in general (I mostly played Stardew Valley & Animal Crossing, with Death Stranding and Horizon Zero Dawn being rarities). I heard that Ori and the Will of the Wisps is similar and wanted to try it, but I only have Switch & PS4 which it is not on. Ori and the Blind Forest, however, is on Switch.
Should I buy Ori and the Blind Forest? If not, which games do you guys recommend that are similar to Hollow Knight on Switch & PS4? If you're thinking about recommending Cuphead, please don't, because I tried it out once and I am WAY too shitty at games to play it lol.

I started on this yesterday and before I knew it 2 hours had already gone by. Love that feeling when a game is so good and engaging that time just disappears! It's one of the best platformers I've played in a long time. Very refreshing coming after New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe that frustrated and bored me more than anything.

Never played this kind of games before. I heard Hollow Knight is quite hard but I'm not sure. Wondering which one would be perfect to newcomers to metroidvania like me?
The first game i finished on my new laptop and surely not the last! I was a bit scared to play games from start to finish cause i don't want to overheat this thing. Seeing that Ori had a general runtime of 10 hours i figured i'd give it a go. After that i couldn't really stop playing. I'm watching the credits roll as we speak with playtime over 12 hours and over 1100 deaths. When i just started i read that most people die 400 to 600 times, i almost doubled or tripled that lol. The game is 84% and i might even 100% it. If you have any other game recommendation for pc please let me know. Because of Ori i'm gonna give Hollow Knight finally a chance and see what all the fuss is about!
No spoilers to Ori and the Blind Forest tho please
