A list of puns related to "Microsoft Studios"
I'd like to hear some feedback from people who use Linux as their daily-driver for their workstation computer that ALSO work heavily/exclusively with Microsoft products.
I work in the Microsoft Enterprise space. So Azure, Windows Servers, Dynamics 365, Office 365, Active Directory, .NET development, SharePoint, even Excel-development, etc.
Products that must be Microsoft branded. I can't use Linux alternatives. My company is a Microsoft partner and I service customers using the Microsoft stack.
That said, I really like the feel of Ubuntu. My PC has crashed randomly a few times and I end up using Ubuntu Live to try and repair/recover things.
Most Linux enthusiasts will blindly say "Oh Linux can do it all, it's the best you should switch!", but for my situation, can it really? Can I do my daily work in Windows feeling like a true native experience, while it's running in Linux? Or am I one of the few that it doesn't make sense for? Can I host Windows Server instances on Hyper-V on top of Linux? Or would I have to use Linux's version of Hypervisor and hope the Windows images play nicely?
Any software developers out there familiar with VS Code?
Does anybody know if loading it to Linux will pipe a giant data tunnel back to Microsoft to snoop on everything?
I've got it on a Windows 10 laptop and actually really like it for powershell work, but I don't know that I trust it enough to put it in my personal laptop.
A few months ago, u/Sumanovicius made a post to provide a comprehensive breakdown of every upcoming game under the PS Studios umbrella. Recently, u/redbomb6 updated it with more detail. I am going to try to make the same form of post for all of Xbox Game Studios and Bethesda Softworks. If anyone has anything else to add let me know below.
Xbox Game Studios:
343 industries: Currently working on Halo: Infinite and its planned 10 year roadmap for the future of Halo. Likely all future Halo content during that time period will launch within Halo: Infinite. Additionally, a small team is working on continuous updates to Halo: Master Chief Collection such as new maps, armors, and custom games browser for each of the games. No large rumors surround the studio. Halo Infinite is set to release December 8th 2021. Also developing and maintaining the Slipspace Engine.
The Coalition: Currently working on mastering UE5 according to a Press Release. The press release states they are working on "multiple projects" with one being confirmed to be the next Gears of War. According to rumors heard Jeff Grubb, he believes the smaller project to be a new IP on a smaller scale, though he does not know what the IP could be. He heard rumors of a Star Wars IP but was unable to confirm them. Jeff believes this small IP is set to release in 2023 and Gear Next after.
Compulsion Games: They are working on a Single Player, 3rd Person Action Adventure game in mid development. The IP of this game is unknown at this time. Info comes from the head of PR at Compulsion Games. They recently moved to a new office and are planning to over double their staff.
Double Fine: Having just released Psychonauts 2, it is completely unknown what Tim Schafer will do next. There had been rumors of Banjo Kazooie, but Tim shot them down in an Interview with IGN stating Double Fine makes their own games. They have been working a on project with a new IP since 2018.
The Initiative: They are currently working on the Reboot of Perfect Dark. Je
Hi everyone, Said everything in the title!
I'm in dire need of your help.
I am based in Montreal, not too much money, but would love to get a new laptop that can run LoL (or similar games) and can help me get back to drawing. I am using this Lenovo ideapad for 10 years and although it still works great, it can't run LoL or any games. It's very slow.
My budget is 1K max. The lesser, the better.
I'm just trying to get back to playing games and drawing.. trying to find hobbies that keep me sane during this pandemic.
I use my personal laptop a lot ( I have a work laptop since I work from home). I'm usually on my bed, with my laptop on my thighs watching Netflix or other streaming websites. 90% of my free time is spent watching tv shows. Therefore having a laptop that won't overheat on my things while I watch tv show would be best.
For the battery life, it's okay if it's not that long as I can keep it plugged but if there is a recommendation with a decent battery life, it would be good.
In terms of gaming needs, I will either play LoL (haven't played it in 7 years) or find a good MMORPG. I am not a "gamer". I would ideally play 2-3h a day.
Do you have any recommendations please? I keep looking online for years but I suck at technology.
The excel part is because if I have a decent computer, I am planning to enroll in new online certificates and try learning some coding languages. Maybe. If I don't bail.
Thank you for your help!!!!!

I'm not sure how I missed this but Microsoft has released a tool that converts VS Code themes into Visual Studio (2022) themes! This may not mean much to many people but it's huge for me.
Description: CLI tool that allows you to convert your VS Code color theme to a VS 2022 color theme.
GitHub: Theme Convert for VS
Here's the theme that I've been trying (failing) to convert manually: Dark+ Material - Visual Studio Marketplace - Once I use this new tool for myself, I'll see if any tweaks need to be done, export the theme and send it to the developer so he can officially release a Visual Studio version!
I was asking this out of curiosity, does anyone have any experience interviewing or working for games at Microsoft British Columbia (343 or Coalition Studios)?
I was primarily eyeing at Gameplay Engineer and Rendering Engineer roles, and I was curious on what kind of questions are asked in the interviews.
Are the Interviews LC focused, or more focused on gaming concepts like programming physics, Ray Tracing or shaders?
Appreciate any information!

Last night I was learning how to use Notion for personal project planning and decided to take the Surface Laptop Studio to do it from bed.
I wanted an icon of the Turrican player sprite for my project. So I did an Image Search, found what I wanted, and loaded it into Photoshop.
The first thing was to zoom in, so I started with the keyboard shortcuts, but then realized that it has a touch screen, so I did a pinch-zoom, which gets me right to where I want to be instead of the 2-3 steps that would usually be required.
I started painting out some pixels using the trackpad, and then remembered that it has a stylus/pen. (You see, this is not how I automatically think when using a laptop).
I found that the screen was uncomfortable to use with the pen at the obtuse angle and the distance. So I moved it into the second easel/tent mode and was then comfortably and accurately painting the specific pixels that I wanted to.
When done, I exported the image, snapped the pen back into its magnet, and pushed the screen back - back into a perfect laptop setting for productivity and typing.
It just all makes so much sense now that I've had a use case for this mid-work mode change.
Microsoft really has done a great job on this.
