Assassin's Creed Rogue Naval Boost Ram Thing

Okay so I am hunting for Assassin's Creed Rogue Remastered Platinum getting fully upgraded ship Shay all weapons etc... But for some unholy Demon that worked/works at Ubisoft they created the Hellspawn that is "The Epic Legendary Battle" I have tried god only knows how many times and am obliterated, I can get him down into the Red but then I am always killed.

The most advice I have found is to use the Naval Ram to get out of the way, I have looked up instructions wiki etc... and no one seems to be able to explain HTF (How the F**k) to actually use it, I've tried everything L1, L2 R1 R2 (but those are different controls ) I've tried pressing x holding down x triangle etc.. so does anyone know how to use the Naval Ram for the PS4 any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

(Spoilers Main) Did ships really ram each other during Naval Battles in real life?

So, I just finished reading A Clash of Kings and I must say Lady Catylin and Sir Davos were my favorite chapters. The climax of the book is the Battle of Blackwater Bay. It's awesome.

I know the book is fantasy but this series is so grounded that sometimes I think I'm reading a History Book. The way wounds get infected and people breaking bones and everything having consequences. War Strategy is paramount in the book. Armies don't simply ran into each other hoping for the best. There are flanks, vans and tactial retreats... and then there's ramming...

During the final Battle, Davos rams his ship into other ships and I don't mean like accidents. I read that in history this was normal in Naval Battles but these were accidents. The main strategy was to lock onto the enemy's ship, kill the soldiers and retreat. I also read that Naval Battles were not supposed to be a battle. Battles were fought on land. In the sea was more of a "holding them and pushing back" them two sides facing each other. A Naval was more of an invasion.

TL;DR: My true question is: Were there truly "Naval Battles" of armies facing each other in the sea and Was "ramming" into another ship a valid strategy? It seams to me that you deal as much damage as you receive plus you are now stuck in the debries of the enemy ship.

[PC][Late 90s, early 00s] Ancient naval warfare RTS that you could ram enemy ships and upgrade your ram

Platform(s)

PC (Windows). Possibly others as well.

Genre

Top-down (bird's eye) view. Naval, RTS, Warfare.

Estimated year of release

90s until mid 2000s. Most likely 97 - 03 but not sure.

Graphics/art style

  • Not gloomy, fairly colorful.
  • Definitely not cartoony. Not too realistic either.
  • I think no seasons changed, though I didn't play it enough for this judgement.

Notable characters

I guess there weren't any characters but not sure. I guess it was just a ancient naval RTS game.

Notable gameplay mechanics

  • You would command ancient warships (like triemes) and defeat other warships and towers, possibly other things as well.
  • Fairly certain that you could build and command more than one ship, instead of a single ship. So the game is more like RTS instead of action or adventure.
  • The most significant thing that I remember is that the warships would have a ram, and you would be able to defeat other ships by ramming as well as by firing arrows (I guess).
  • I strongly think that you could also board the enemy ships, acquiring them as a result.
  • You could also upgrade your ram to "bronze ram", "silver ram", "gold ram", etc. to defeat enemy ships faster by ramming. I think you could upgrade your ships' missiles (arrows, etc.) as well.
  • I remember defeating the towers were particularly difficult. Or at least because I was a child.
  • As far as I can remember, the only resource in the game was gold. I guess there would be some gold deposits (or mines, not sure) on the lands, and you would disembark some humans to collect them.
  • I believe the game (or at least the "campaign" part of it, really don't remember) was level based. That is, not sure but I believe that defeating that "tower" I mentioned two items above was required to pass to the next level.

Other details

I believe the game's name consisted of two words, and had a "cool" name. I also believe that the loading screen (or menu screen) featured an ancient warship sporting a siren as its figurehead.

It is not Sid Meier's Pirates. I believe this game was a much less known game.

Naval Rams in SoT?

I remember playing Assassins Creed Black Flag in the past and SoT really reminds me a lot about that game. I feel like some elements like the naval ram would be an interesting thing to implement into the game and would make naval combat even more interesting. Anyone else agree or disagree?

Prioritize upgrading ram for naval battles

Many folks have leveled beyond worrying but I just finally figured this out and wanted to share my suggestions on naval battles to those still struggling. I just recently got the game and was struggling immensely with naval battles, especially when trying to pick off ships from a group. I’d end up aggro’ing 2 or 3 and would be toast.

The conventional wisdom I’ve read is to focus on upgrading hull+arrows so you can keep everyone at a distance. I tried a few levels of that to awful results. The problem with fighting naval battles with arrows+javelins is that in a multi ship battle you have to board the enemy ship to recover HP, which the game won’t let you do when engaged with another enemy. This makes it really difficult to replenish ship health if you aggro more than 1-ship.

The lightbulb just clicked on recently tho. When you cleave a ship in two, you replenish health just as in boarding and can do that even when surrounded by ships. Plus ramming does more damage anyways.

I’ve started to upgrade my hull+ram+oars and all my luitenents are ramming/cleaning centric and naval battles are stupid easy now because every time I cleave a ship in two-I get my HP replenished and I don’t have to mess w boarding.

I now barely use arrows, and with lots of stamina replenish can mostly just focus on cleaving ship after ship.

Running after a naval bounty today was really satisfying as I ran smack into a 9-ship group (6-Athenians) with multiple elites and destroyed them all (I play on hard fwiw).

Anyways, my 2-cents for those struggling w naval battles. Focus on hull+ram+oars and just keep cleaving. Cleave a ship=replenish health. Rinse/repeat.

I imagine that gunpowder replaced the need for naval "rams." Does anyone know specifically how that happened? Was there ever a decisive battle between a gunpowder-armed fleet and a ram-armed fleet? Thanks!

I tried looking it up and I couldn't find the information I am looking for. I know there are great stories of, for instance, guns versus swords. Looking for something similar on the high seas. Cheers :)
