A list of puns related to "Musa Dagh"
Just watched this movie today, thought it would be interesting to share. It's the story of a how a small Armenian village managed to retaliate the Ottoman soldiers for forty days using guerilla tactics. It was supposed to be a big production by MGM based on the book by Franz Werfel. It never went into production because of Turkish influence. This made them sell the rights to the movie, which resulted in: https://youtu.be/n2V4Ti0RetA
Edit: By the way if anyone knows of more movies like this, please share in the comments.
Hello fellow Armenians,
I want to know if theres a translation of the book in arabic? I cant find anything on google.
and also where can i find it in armenian?
MGM was to produce a film version of The Forty Days of Musa Dagh in the 1930s.
"Franz Werfel did not lead a quiet, stable life. Then again, the times in which he lived did not lend themselves to such luxuries. Born in 1890 to a German-speaking, Jewish family in Czech-speaking, predominantly Christian Prague, Werfel lived through a Europe that was fundamentally altered in the decades that followed. His adult life was tied to Vienna, although he also lived elsewhere on the Continent, before ending up in the United States. His literary works had a following among the public and artistic circles, especially in Austria and Germany after World War I. This was the period of the rise of the Nazi Party and growing, institutionalised anti-Semitism. Werfel moved as far away as possible from his heritage – even carrying out an affair and later marrying a socialite known for her disdain for Judaism. Regardless, the written work for which he is most celebrated today bridges the experience of the Armenian and Jewish peoples, and not by coincidence. The Mount of Moses – or Musa Dagh – is located in the far south-eastern corner of the Mediterranean coast of Turkey today. It used to be populated with..."

Hi, my request for the book I am searching for might sound weird at first but I haven't been able to find such a book anywhere, so I had to be as direct as possible. What might help to understand my request is, if you're familiar with the games postal 1 or Hatred, which both of them revolve (partly) about these topics. I think such book could be categorized in the Thriller or Horror genre, I am not sure though. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Also to add, the book could also go into the psychologicality of people that commit such crimes or revolve around their perspective of their lifes, if that helps to narrow it down.
Just finished reading, "The Rape of Nanking", and I was blown away by how this tragic event went untaught. I literally had no idea this event occurred until last month when I picked it up.
My question for you all; what books would you recommend like this? I'm looking for other historical tragedies that aren't really touched upon in media, school curriculum, and such. Thanks in advance!

Hi, everyone!
I have been trying to learn more about history. I do enjoy and appreciate non fiction history books but they aren’t as exciting to read. I’m open to books set in any time period!
Cheers
Visiting soon and I'd like to have an overall view of the history/culture/diaspora of this fascinating country. Biographies/books on Paradjanov also appreciated as well as any Armenian author recs. Thank you!
I have the urge to read a book about a dark historical event. I've read two books by Svetlana Alexiavich this year, being "Voices from Chernobyl" and "Zinky Boys". I'm looking for a book similar to the type of depressing mood that these books carry.
I would prefer something about war. Mainly involving Russia. Possibly events like the Chechen wars, The Beslan School Massacre or Moscow Theater seige. Just war or terrorism in general I guess.
I've seen a few books by Russian Jounralist Anna Politkovskaya that have caught my eye.
This sounds more depressing than it should but I just find dark aspects of history incredibly interesting. Just wanted to know your guy's opinions.
Thanks a lot :)

Hi, I would like to read books set around 1900-1925 in Egypt or in the Ottoman Empire.
Just like the movie the Mummy.
It should have lots of descriptions of places, buildings, food, work and clothing. It could be fictional or non-fictional.
I would like to read about the daily lives of people and what it felt like to live in this time period.
Thanks!

##large-scale cleanup operations planned for Hrazdan river and Yerevanyan lake
Yerevan's green department: no cleanup operations of this scale have been conducted since the USSR. These two are very important for the capital. They not only solve the irrigation issue but also develop the microclimate.
There are 13,000 tons of garbage in Hrazdan and Yerevanyan as a result of activities by businesses and citizens. The shore cleanup begins next year.
Reporter: did you just say 13,000 tons?
Official: Yes. There are also 15 hectares of harmful plants on the shores. They feed on pollutants. Each plant evaporates 300 liters of water every year. We will clean them up in the initial phase. The collected garbage will be sent for processing.
Besides the cleanup, we will revamp the local infrastructure. There will be fences and garbage-catching tools. The ground will be leveled. Lighting will be installed. The area will become more attractive to residents. //
Eco-trash NGO: we can solve these issues when the govt, NGOs, and citizens unite. We need a widespread public awareness campaign about the dangers of dumping trash in these areas.
Imagine accumulating 1 ton of plastic waste under direct scorching sunlight. Its particles disintegrate, turn into gas, harm the water, etc. There is also the issue of residents having to swim next to trash in hot summer months. //

##Artik's abandoned mines will turn into forests and parks
The UN has allocated $1.5 million to launch an environmental pilot program in Artik. There are 40 hectares of land surrounding the town that used to be mines. They will be converted into green zones and parks.
The two flood canals entering the town will be revamped. A new rapid-response system will be implemented for emergency situations.
Environmentalists said: Artik has long suffered from dusty airr. No regular sampling has been taken since 2005. Only Gyumri is being monitored constantly in the entire Shirak. The 2005 reading in Artik indicated dust that's multiple times higher than the acceptable.
In 2016, the abandoned mines caused a disaster. The pollutants from mines were dumped in Artik's drainage systems, and when heavy rains fell, all the polluted water flooded the residential areas. //

Bullied Historians
The Armenians have perfected the art of presenting their case to the exclusion of all others to a tee. When a historian comes along and dares to write the version of events countering their own, it becomes open season on that historian. On an Armenian web site, pages were devoted to Princeton Professor Heath Lowry, supporting what a person of ill-repute he is. UCLA Professor Stanford Shaw's house was actually bombed by Armenian extremists in the late 1970s. (In fact anyone who participates in putting Turks in a possibly good light is fair game... as in the case of Antonio Banderas, who was set to play Ataturk in a proposed motion picture; the actor got intimidated after receiving scores of threatening letters, mostly from members of the Greek-American community. As of this writing, the actor has signed up to appear in an Armenian-friendly movie, The Forty Days of Musa Dagh... if you can't fight 'em, join 'em!) (ADDENDUM: It appears this project has been shelved, likely thanks to the poor showing of the movie, "Ararat.")
As difficult as it is to have the Western public consider the truth of what really took place, already as brainwashed as the masses have been... imagine how much more difficult this task becomes when historians are in fear of getting their reputations sullied, or even of physical dangers.
THE TRIAL OF BERNARD LEWIS On November 16, 1993 the French daily conservative Le Monde published a long interview with Professor (now emeritus) Bernard Lewis of Princeton University on occasion of the publication of his latest book The Middle East. The main topic of the interview was Islamic fundamentalism; however, given the preeminence of Professor Lewis, the interviewer touched on the so-called “Armenian Genocide” as well.
Professor Lewis is a world respected authority on the Middle Eastern and in the Ottoman history. His works have been translated in 22 languages. He has lectured in Europe, Asia, North Africa. and the United States, as well as many Muslim countries. Below, is the English translation of the segment of the interview that deals with the Armenian issue:
Le Monde—Why do the Turks always refuse to admit the Armenian Genocide?
Bernard Lewis— You mean, the Armenian version of the history? There was an Armenian problem for the Turks created by the advance of the Russians, and also there was a population with an anti-Turkish sentiment in the Ottoman Empire who sought independence, a
