I was just listening to "One of the Boys" by Mott The Hoople for the first time in a while and was thinking about the rarely used "Fade-Out-Fade-Back-In" trope that is exemplified in this song.
If you don't know what I'm talking about:
> At around 4:20 the band starts fading out only be replaced by the sound of a ringing phone. When the phone is answered you can hear the song continue to play trough the thin-sounding handset which slowly gets louder and more lifelike before fading once again.
(Genuinely a genius piece of aural "forced perspective" imho)
My thought is that a band can do this exactly ONE time in their career before it starts sounding played out.
Any other particularly noteworthy examples?
Side question: Any other cool moments that might be considered "aural forced perspective"?
