As the nation honors the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., @USDOT recognizes the importance of safe and equitable access to transportation. We must live up to the legacy of courageous actions like the Montgomery Bus Boycott, and the Civil Rights Movement overall.

Don't forget, the Montgomery bus boycott lasted over a year and these companies have far more money than the state of Alabama.
These companies aren't going to give in quickly or even reasonably. Many would rather not have a business than pay and treat their workers like human beings. The fight will be incredibly long. This is only the beginning.

December 5, 1955, The Montgomery Bus Boycott began
Local civil rights leaders had been planning a boycott of Montgomeryβs busing for several months and Rosa Parks had been a part of those discussions. So when Parks was arrested December 1, 1955, the NAACP and civil rights leaders immediately called for Montgomery bus boycott.
4 day later, December 5, in 1955 marked the beginning of the Montgomery Bus Boycott. It was a protest in which African Americans refused to ride city buses in Montgomery, Alabama and was regarded as the first large-scale demonstration against segregation.
