A list of puns related to "Mira Nair"
Would recommend. Also planning on reading the book now as I always feel books are always more detailed and capture emotions better. Arvind Adiga and Amitav Ghosh are the only Indian authors Iβve read till now and want to expand my horizon.
@Mods - Can we have a flair for Books by Indian authors and maybe also movies / shows.
Celebrated filmmaker Mira Nairβs stage musical adaptation of her 2001 movie Monsoon Wedding will premiere in India in November, 2021. During a virtual masterclass at Busan Film Festival, Nair said the musical will first open in India and then in Singapore, Dubai and London.
βWe are going to open next year, November 2021. First in India, and then in Singapore, and Dubai, perhaps, and then bring it to London and the United States. Itβs a wonderful musical with music from Vishal Bhardwaj, one of our great composers, 21 new songs,β said Nair.
This is a very stupid question. But is it out in India ? I have Netflix but am not finding it.. is there some other way of watching it ? Sorry very stupid π€£
Disclaimer: 'Capernaum' and 'Salaam Bombay' spoilers below!
I have watched 'Capernaum' shortly after it became nominated for the Best Foreign Movie Award by the Academy, because the Oscar shortlist for this category very often features amazing internationally recognized movies. I really liked 'Capernaum' back then - I have cried a lot on it, I thought it was a bit sugary and too upfront about its message, but I loved the plot and certain scenes that were featured in this movie. I thought it was a really great picture, focusing on children's poverty and unhappiness in a world that refused to provide for them - back then, with my movie experience, 'Capernaum' really stood out with its concept and plot, especially with its leading child actor, Zain Al Rafeea, whose acting was stellar, chiefly considering his age.
That is , until I watched 'Salaam Bombay', a much older movie, a few days ago. Mira Nair's picture was an even more beautiful work - emotional, subtle and at the same time memorable and heartbreaking. It featured interesting stories and it also was heavily grounded on children having no future in this world of streets. Not only I loved 'Salaam Bombay' much more, because its message was much subtler and not straight out told, like in 'Capernaum', I also discovered that 'Capernaum' borrowed a lot of similarities from this movie, and these happened to be the plot points I remembered about 'Capernaum' and liked it for.
Not only Krishna and Zain are similar to each other visually, and found themselves in similar familial and economic situations, there are also certain plot points that, originally appearing in 'Salaam Bombay', resurfaced in 'Capernaum'. To name a few (warning: spoilers ahead!):
both movies take place on streets where children have to survive on their own, having their rights abused in the process
both protagonists land in a prison/juvenile detention center and they both are to face the trials
in both movies young children are taken away from their mothers (respectively, a prostitute/an illegal immigrant) who had to neglect their children due to their work and they suffered great emotional distress upon their children's disappearance
the protagonists are both finding a maternal figure in said mothers, and taking care of their children
in both movies a young girl is sexually preyed upon and eventually sold into being raped by considerably older men (Sweet Sixteen/Zain's sister)
in both movies the protagonist stabs s
Actor Randeep Hooda has reportedly been asked to quit A Suitable Boy, an upcoming eight-part BBC series by noted filmmaker Mira Nair.
According to a report in Mid Day, an altercation with a makeup artiste led to Randeepβs ouster from the project. The actor, however, said he left after completing four-day shoot for his small role in the film.
The report said the incident took place at the filmβs location in Lucknow. A source from the production team was quoted as saying, βThe cast and crew were stationed at the Hyatt Regency in Lucknow. In the initial leg of his stint, Randeep got into an argument with the make-up man (name undisclosed on request) about the look he was to sport on that day. It started out as a verbal altercation, but things quickly spiralled out of hand as the actor manhandled the make-up artiste. Mira was not present at the scene. However, word soon reached the filmmaker and the matter was duly escalated to the BBC team in the UK. The team promptly took cognisance of the episode, and a day later, they requested Randeep to respectfully bow out of the project.β
The actor, however, had his own version of the story. He told Mid Day, βFirstly, it was not a physical fight, but an argument with my make-up artiste who has worked with me for many years and is working with me on Radhe. Secondly, I had a brief role on A Suitable Boy, which I did for my love for Mira. Thirdly, I did not exit the project; I finished my four days of work and moved on to other projects.β Randeep, who is currently working on Salman Khanβs next, Radhe, was to play Billy Irani, a suave Kolkata-based gentleman from Vikram Sethβs famous novel
