A list of puns related to "Michale Graves"
My first Misfits album was Walk Among Us in 1987. I bought Danzig 1 on release in 1988. I think that qualfies me as both "old" and "old school fan."
I love all the old Misfits albums, the evil Elvis vibe, the over the top lyrics and vibe, the thrashier later stuff, all of it. I blew off the Graves era completely, never paying attention, and while I did go out to see the Jerry Only All-Stars (like.. Jerry, a Ramone, Dez from Flag and Robo maybe?) once, I'm not even gonna count them as part of the history.
This is about the Graves stuff.
I get it, "it's not the Misfits without Danzig, maaan..." AC/DC post Bon Scott? Van Halen without Roth? Sabbath without Ozzy? Genesis sans Gabriel? Loss of a singer isn't always the end of the era as much as a new chapter.
"They're as hard." I dunno, honestly thrashier Misfits is weaker Misfits, their earlier stuff with more roots influence is better, anyways.
"Jerry Only sucks!" Not arguing that, but again, we're specifically talking Graves here.
He clearly sings in a Danzig inspired style, he wrote songs that were catchy as fuck that carried legacy Misfits sound, and can't be held accountable for Jerry Only being Jerry Only.
Do I consider Graves Misifts the same as Danzig Misfits? Nah, and I'm fine drawing a line and saying "I prefer/don't like/only listen to.." one or the other, but when push comes to shove.. The Michale Graves years aren't nearly as bad you think if you jsut approach it with the open mind of "not replacing, just augmenting" the Misfits as a band.
(ps: honestly, I like the idea of Project 1950 and would've loved to see something like that come out of Glenn Danzig than a full Elvis covers album, or with Graves... and I also agree that the Jerry Only All-Stars just needs to drop the Misfits name)
Alright, flame away. Not only is it a topic beaten to death, but I'm prepared for the grognards to come out of the woodwork and trash.
What the fuck?
I've been listening to random songs of his, and it always seems to be a hit or miss. We all listen to the Misfits and Danzig, but not as many listen to Graves or Doyle's stuff. Been trying to find good stuff there.
