A list of puns related to "Michael Murphy (actor)"
i'm continuing my own personal dive into some of my favorite good/bad/???/GREAT! movies and i've already explored most of the HDTGM movies that i care to see, i'm trying to branch out and find other similar movies, forgotten movies, movies from my past that i might enjoy.
i watched Pluto Nash recently. i also watched Deep Blue Sea recently, which led me to rediscover Wing Commander (which i wrote about) also starring Saffron Burroughs.
METRO was a late-90s buddy cop movie starring Eddie Murphy and Michael Rappaport that was mostly unsuccessful and forgotten. i remembered seeing it in theaters and not really caring much about it (though there were a couple scenes i did remember).
Eddie Murphy stars as a san francisco hostage negotiator. the plot is actually kind of flimsy, he just randomly happens to get on a case following a guy who is an asshole. Michael Rappaport is a rookie trainee introduced to learn from Murphy on the job.
first of all i think i need to say something --- i think i genuinely like these movies. maybe it's some sort of stockholm syndrome... i'm in quarantine (FUCKING STILL), i'm older now, maybe my temperament has changed i don't know --- but what i do know is that i genuinely enjoyed watching eddie murphy: action star both in pluto nash and metro. there is something about the pain and pathos beneath the deep throated laughs that really sells it for me!
michael rappaport was great in this movie, too. actually, everyone was great. and this may be a bit premature because i haven't wiki'd all of the actors yet. but the main villain? that dude can YELL. also he's very believable as... basically just an asshole. he's not like a mastermind or some kind of evil genius. he's just a white collar murderer POS. who likes jazz.
one thing that really struck me about this movie is the budget. this street car chase down san francisco is pretty spectacular. and it's all practical. it's definitely worth a watch.
back to the "funny" parts of the movie: murphy is basically a hostage negotiator in downtown SF where there appear to be armed hostage situations 2-5 times a week. in the film they both occur in financial businesses (bank, jeweler) but a video clip shows a convenience store holdup that took place in the past. maybe SF is just riddled with hostage-taking?
the horse track scene was a lot of fun. murphy and rappaport shooting the shit, cracking wise, while eddie teaches MR how to bet on horses.
MR: "I have two words for you. Seek help."
