A list of puns related to "Matriphagy"
Hey guys,
first, i want to say thank you for this awesome community. I discovered the platform and this subreddit a couple months ago and i love it, keep it going!
I want to dedicate this post to my favorite release that came out recently. Matriphagy is in my opinion a great example of what you can do with nu metal elements nowadays. This hardcore- nu metal mashup (or how they call it, "nu-core") is the coolest fuckin thing I've heard in a long time and i never thought that i would appreciate panic cords and slam- breakdowns that much. "Kungan" and "Overconfidence" hooked me instantly when i first heard them, especially cause i thought "someone's doing turntables again?? Awesome!" And also the concept about the evil, terrorising mother really appealed to me, cause it reminds me of the old days where most of the lyrics were pretty angry and dark. And of course Justin, the vocalist is absolutely insane, what he can do with his voice is so cool.
What do you think about this album and what do you like about it the most?
I really want Matriphagy on CD, but I haven't heard the greatest things about the Earache Webstore. I'm in Australia and I'm worried that if I order it, it may never come. Does anyone know the answer to this? If it isn't a good idea, is there a way for me to at least get the official files from somewhere so I can burn them onto a disc? I can't even buy it off iTunes and burn it to a disc like I would have been able to a few years ago.
Thanks in advance
Hello, everyone! The day is upon us and Matriphagy has officially been released!
>Matriphagy is a concept album about how an overprotective mother pushes her son to the edge of insanity through psychological & physical abuse. Having spent two decades trapped inside a glorified prison, and after some failed rescue/escape attempts, the son, in a state of heavy delirium does the unforgivable to free himself from his mother's wicked hold.
The album can be purchased or streamed from these links. Make sure to grab your copy so we can get Matriphagy to the top of the charts:
Also, a quick reminder that there will be an AMA with the band tonight at 8PM EDT over at r/numetal. Let's get those questions ready!
What is everybody's favorite part about the album? Do any songs stick out to you in particular, or do you prefer listening to the album as a whole?
Hello everyone!
Now that Matriphagy has been out for a while and we have a lot of new fans, we'd love to hear what everyone loves about the album! What is everyone's favorite song, and why? What is something from Matriphagy that you would like to see more of in future releases?
Also, we plan on doing a similar discussion about the story of Matriphagy when Tallah releases the final concept video for the album, so stay tuned!
Thank you all.
Google defines matriphagy as "the consumption of the mother by her offspring" and just by that definition alone (and coupled with the fact that I had listened to Tallah's 'No One Should Read This' EP this was based off of), I thought I had a fairly solid idea of what I was getting into. But as I went through this 45+ minute masterpiece, I felt a variety of emotions, some of which I never knew music could make you feel.
Pennsylvania nu-metal band Tallah has spent years crafting this album around a story that I won't get into here, but I would suggest researching Tallah's Matriphagy album backstory (if you like dark stuff). This story comes to life beautifully through the voice of vocal powerhouse Justin Bonitz. He showcases not only low gutturals, but the highest pitched screeches I have ever heard in metal. Justin's emotion is evident in every line. Coupled with Max Portnoy's frantic beats and utterly brutal breakdowns, and accompanying instrumentation that bring on hightened senses of adrenaline as well as anxiety.
There isn't one song on this that I walked away from thinking "Wow. That was bad." Quite the opposite, actually. More often than not, I was headbanging and loving every second of this album. It more than lives up to the hype that it has been getting since "The Silo" dropped earlier this year. My absolute favorite song from this would have to be "Overconfidence". I relate to a lot of those lyrics as they speak so poignantly to what I am going through mentally. More specifically the lines:
"I envision a world where my choices are mine"
and
"I could drown in my confidence"
Some more scarily true lines from "We, The Sad" read:
"Thereβs no use in getting better
These things, they multiply
Are we not supposed to feel more than sad?"
If it were years and years ago, I would relate so much to those words, but now, not so much.
My only gripe with this record is that their previous EP, "No One Should Read This", already showcased half of the album in 2018. I felt like that was a huge spoiler for me. However, if you are coming across this for the first time and you enjoy nu-metal, you might just find 2020's AOTY.
The livestream will take place on the Knotfest website October 1st at 6pm EDT. The band will be streaming live from the Willow Glen State Penitentiary with some additional visuals added in. You can see the flier here.
Edit: According to this article from the Knotfest website, the band will be accompanied by an additional guitarist and a live DJ. There will also be a post-show Q&A with the band at https://www.twitch.tv/moshtalks.
Thanks u/2StixNix for the idea.
I went into this album having heard The Silo and We, the Sad. I made sure not to listen to any of the other singles so the album would be mad fresh. And it was.
Matriphagy is the best album of the year. I haven't heard anything near how good this is. It's a brutal, taxing listen. It never lets up in aggression. The old tracks are mixed so much better than on the EP. Sonically, it's very textured, and there are all sorts of weird and interesting noises all over the album. I thoroughly enjoyed the inclusion of more industrial elements, it definitely made it a more interesting listen.
On songwriting, the story of the concept album is much easier to follow than on the EP as there's more context. The songs themselves are more complex, with more time and tempo changes. It's way mathier than its predecessor, and I think it was a strong choice. On first listen of The Silo last summer, I was actually a little offput and slightly disappointed. I thought this record would not match the intensity of the EP, but it countlessly exceeded it. Now, with context and time, The Silo is a really strong track.
My favorites on this record were No One Should Read This, Overconfidence, LED, Murder Seed, and Red Light. The only thing I can ask for on the next one is 100% new material, but even hearing the old stuff with a fresh coat of paint was amazing.
Iβd like to preface this by explaining that I am new to vinyl, and therefore this may very well be an obvious answer. Anyway, it is my understanding that the majority of two-sided vinyl records hold up to 44 minutes of music. It can hold more songs, but in order to do that, compression of dynamic range must be utilized, comprising the sound quality.
When I looked on Amazon for the Matriphagy vinyl, I noticed that it, surprisingly, only came with one LP, even though the album lasts 53 minutes. All of the 1LP records I currently own are below 44 minutes, so Iβd like to know from any owners of the vinyl edition of Matriphagy if it noticeably in sound quality. Or, if anyone has experience with a 1LP record of Matriphagyβs length, Iβd like to hear from you as well.
