A list of puns related to "Make Your Own Kind of Music (song)"
So I watched both Dexter and LOST as they were airing and I am a fan of both.
This Mama Cass song is an iconic song in the LOST universe as it relates to the character Desmond.
Was anyone else kind of disappointed that Dexter used this song as well? There were a lot of reasons I know many of us were unsatisfied with that season, but using that song took me out of the immersion pretty badly because of how iconic it is for LOST.
I just thought they could have picked any other song for that. It never made sense to me why they picked it.
I was actually pretty satisfied with the whole series and didnβt even mind the Lumberjack ending very much. I donβt keep my expectations too high for shows and I try to enjoy them as they are.
Does anyone else who likes both shows have any opinions on this?
Songs preferrably that have that uplifting late 60's pop feel like these thanks.
I posted this question a while ago and got some rather interesting and notable answers. As such, I have decided to ask it again to gather even more responses for this discussion, and with my playlist updated to include even more songs.
If I was given the opportunity, Iβd love to name mine Classic Hits 90.9. And as the name implies, my radio station only plays classic hits from the 70βs, 80βs and 90βs.
So there I am just sitting at my aunt Karen 70th birthday party with my family. We are eating at a Buca Di Beppo (glorified olive garden for those that don't know) and Mama Cass Elliot come on. I have to admit it was a very strange feeling of nostalgia and almost fear like oh shit what is about to happen half way excepting Desmond to pop around the corner or something. Being a Lost nerd that I am and knowing that most people are not I didn't say anything like "hey do any of you remember this song from lost?" It was a funny roller coaster of emotions in like 5 seconds. Thought you guys might enjoy this and hope some of you have had similar experiences.
Hi all! This week on The Hatch: A Lost Podcast, we've got an awesome guest. Mark Goldman was nominated for four Emmys for his work editing Lost, finally winning the Emmy for the series finale. On this week's podcast, we ask him about the opening of Season 2, and how he turned loads of raw footage into one of the best sequences of the show.
We also talk "...And Found," which helps us understand why Sun almost ended up with Jae Lee, and what drives Jin to make the compromises he makes to be with Sun. We feel very bad for Jae Lee.

Relax, relax, let's take it down to a two, It's Thursday over here. π
I decided to give a special post to this gem of a song which has again found its way back into the mainstream (crumpets, no joke)
Now, I'm not exactly a fan of Cass Eliott or her popular 60's music group - The Mamas & the Papas, however I actually know of one of her most popular solo hits which really traveled on through the aged and gained new life through film/art - Make Your Own Kind of Music
The 60's hit found a new audience years later when used in the the season 2 opening of Lost. It was truly an iconic scene (especially since it was introducing the first glimpse of a new character which would go on to be a true favourite among fans, Desmond) The track almost fit too perfectly, still gives me 2013 chills tbh. Epic! And then later on the song became a staple for many other shows on television (Including: Dexter, POI, The Middle etc).. It's just that good.
Thereβs just something kind of melancholy and positive about this song at the same time. Itβs kind of up-beat, yet displays the complete opposite in the lyrics and the vocal delivery. And her voice was real unique, truly. It's almost haunting in a way, but cheery. Elliott's voice clearly gave a spark to a lot of people since many keep on returning to that song and her discography (myself included) π
(side note: Few years back I realised Eliott also made a cameo in the (my childhood) H.R Pufnstuf movie as one of the witches, and her character sang a number which was almost similar to the gloomy, angelic, MYOKOM lyrical content. Hmm, went something like this)
"Different is heartache... Different is pain But I'd rather be different than be the same"!) https://youtu.be/i7rAaYFFeZk
That song from the movie has stuck with me for years. Twas kind of cool when I discovered both tracks were by the same artist.
(Quick rundown: Cass Elliot was a main member of the folk/Rock/vocal group - The Mamas & the Papas. They released a total of five studio albums and seventeen singles over a four-year period, six of which made the Billboard top ten, and sold close to 40 million records worldwide.[3] The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 for their contributions to the music industry (thank you Wikipedia)
Anyways, I'll leave it at that. I suggest you give her tracks a whirl - Her most famous worldwide hits MYOKOM, Dream a little Dream (cover), and It's Getting Better (whic
... keep reading on reddit β‘Everything feels so monotonous. I never thought i'd get tired of music, new or old but here I am. Listening to music just doesn't free me of feeling irritated and worthless anymore.
What kind of songs make you feel things? Like a will to live, or a love for life, a love for your people, stuff like that. I'm interested in beautiful songs that are special to YOU. Songs that are tied to unique emotions and memories, if possible.
Nothing too extreme though(i.e- hardcore opera or death metal)
I use spotify btw. Do drop a recommendation or playlist if you can, i would be very grateful.

#Make Your Own Kind of Music
Tonight's three films take a classic story and translate it to the world of music... in the weirdest way possible. First, Faust meets The Phantom of the Opera as a composer sells his soul for the woman he loves. Next, it's a classic gangster story from the recently deceased Alan Parker, only starring kids. Singing kids. Take that, James Cagney! Finally, it's Frankenstein, only with (sweet) transvestites, aliens and rock 'n' roll! You will be doing the time warp (again), tonight on Movie Dicks!
The show begins at 8:00 PM CT in the PreRec Twitch chat.
Phantom of the Paradise (1974) (1:31:30)
Bugsy Malone (1976) (1:33:51)
The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1976) (1:40:08)
##Synopses:
Phantom of the Paradise (1974): A disfigured composer sells his soul for the woman he loves so that she will perform his music. However, an evil record tycoon betrays him and steals his music to open his rock palace, The Paradise. Directed by Brian DePalma, starring Paul Williams, William Finley, Jessica Harper, Gerrit Graham and George Memmoli.
Bugsy Malone (1976): The classic gangster story of Bugsy Malone told with an all-child cast. Directed by Alan Parker, starring Jodie Foster, Scott Baio, Florence Garland, John Cassisi and Martin Lev.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975): A newly-engaged couple have a breakdown in an isolated area and must seek shelter at the bizarre residence of Dr. Frank-n-Furter. Directed by Jim Sharman, starring Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, Richard O'Brien, Patricia Quinn, Nell Campbell and Meat Loaf.
Last Time on Movie Dicks
Cheerleader Camp (1988), Summer Camp Nightmare (1987), Sleepaway Camp III: Teenage Wasteland (1989)
I have seen quite a few Desmond references with regards to the COVID-19 situation. Just this morning I came across another one, and spontaneously asked Alexa to play "Make Your Own Kind of Music".
I was quietly singing along with the music, enjoying "Lost" nostalgia...and then was momentarily startled when the record didn't skip.
Iβll admit that I listen to Lady Gaga and Carly Rae Jepsen almost as much as Death Grips
Sadly none of my friends irl are into the same kind of music I am (Wave, could rap, chill ethereal stuff). I released my first song a few hours ago, but I kind of just followed my gut but I am worried that I am biased about its quality since I was the one who made it from scratch.
So I guess my ultimate question is does anyone have any tips for listening to your own music with more of an objective approach?
If you have any predictions for the episode tonight this is the thread to discuss them in. Any theorys also work for this.
