Luka Dončić is exiting health and safety protocols and expected to meet the Mavs in Oklahoma City for a possible Sunday return to the lineup, league sources say. Dončić has missed 10 games recovering from a left ankle injury and a protocols stint.

I'm getting the impression that Kidd comes into practice and says "I have an idea, this might sound crazy, but here it is..." and the result is the Mavs being down by 10+ points in the first few minutes of the game and not to mention Luka playing off the ball.
Luka isn't made to play off the ball. That would be like telling Kristaps to run the point and be the playmaker. It makes 0 sense.
He has thrived for 3 years, the offense runs through him, he is the floor general of the Mavs offense and I don't think they will get anywhere by making him wait on the side until he gets the ball.
People have this boner for Jalen Brunson, but he should be the replacement for Luka, not be on the floor with him. Luka on, Jalen off, then switch. That's how it should be.
Playing Luka off the ball is such a waste of his talent and ability to create for the rest of his team.
Everybody absolutely clowned the Hawks and Suns for taking these players instead of Luka. Young and Ayton are now in the Conference Finals while Luka's team has 5 total playoff wins.
I'm not saying Young or Ayton are better, but it's definitely interesting to see their teams have success with these two being major contributors. Especially while Luka's team is imploding around him, largely related to him it seems.
Edited to add: This was more of a comment on the people who acted like the Hawks and Suns got Sam Bowies while the Mavs got MJ. Young and Ayton deserve more respect than general NBA pundits have given them.
