My family and I were involved in a car accident yesterday, and at the request of my OB’s office I went to labor and delivery. (I’m 32w5d.)
L&D monitored baby girl for 4 hours and performed the Kleihauer Betke Test. The nurse had told me that it was based on blood type and asked if I knew my blood type. I told her I wasn’t 100% sure, and she said it was no big deal, they’d get it from my medical records. A few hours later, she returned and said the test was negative and that my blood type is O+, and given how monitoring went, I was able to go home.
Today, I was looking through my medical records and found that my blood type is in fact A+. I’m now psyching myself out that the hospital made an error and is basing my results off an incorrect blood type.
Anyone know how the test is quantified?
I have an appointment with my OB on Tuesday, and baby has been just as active as ever. I’m concerned enough, but not as much since she is still being her usually active self thankfully.
Does anyone have good resources on KB cell identification? I find myself unable to see the difference between lymphocytes and red cells at times, and I've gotten little training with no reference books in the lab.

Last night I pulled a classic dad joke on my daughter. Normally this would make anyone groan but because my daughter is cool like me she loved it.
We were studying for her science vocabulary test. When we came to the word “organism”
she said: “Any living thing. Like an animal, plant or fungi”
I said: “You know people think I’m a fun guy (fungi)”
(Pause) she looks at me….
Her: “Oh I get it! “ then we laugh as she explains the joke I made. She’s 9.
Classic… My daughter is going to make a great “dad” one day…
