Do you think she'd look better than Cady if she dressed more conventionally?
I first heard the Céline Dion cover of this song since my family members love her and often play her music . I can barely hold back from crying because the lyrics are just too true . I hear it and I just remember all the years of never being complimented, never being asked to dance or to parties , and never receiving Valentine’s Day cards.
It’s also just such an honest song . Many people must have similar feelings , and I’d imagine celebrities who have a lot of pressure put on them to be perfect would experience this too . But you never see this sort of theme explored in media very much , or at least not in such an intimate and introspective way.
The song has a bit of a hopeful message at the end , but I can’t help but feel that I’ll just be perpetually stuck in the “ugly duckling” duckling stage. It sucks that I never got to enjoy a social life as a teenager because my own insecurities continue to hold me back from making friends . I don’t even want to try making conversation with people because I just know they’ll find me too disgusting to even speak to me .
