I’m Iranian myself, but I was always wondering why khomeini didn’t accept the ceasefire after the first two years of war when saddam said he would take his forces out of Iran? And another question is who really won the war because I keep hearing “Iran lost at the end” or “Iraq won because they didn’t let Iran export their revolution” And can someone explain the Iran Contra affair because all I see are Iraqis mentioning that, so does anyone have any answers? I’d appreciate it
The Iranian cultural Revolution had weakened Iran and lead to an unstable government which Saddam decided to take advantage of and invade Iran, plunging Iran and Iraq into an 8 year war.
The west was extremely hostile to Iran during this war due to several hostage crisis and that the new government actively resisted westernization. They rejected both the US and USSR leading to majority of the world's powers and both superpowers to support Iraq.
The west did many favors for Iraq and Saddam Hussein and actively undermined and sabotaged Iran's war effort whilst the USSR and China both supported Iraq's regime against Iran's which was openly hostile to both of them. When Saddam started committing war crimes, the west turned a blind eye and were indifferent, even when Iraqi missiles hit US ships, Washington spun the event to make Iran seem like the bad guy. Ultimately, this was a war that Iran had no hope of winning due to them rejecting both the west and the east. The indifference shown by western powers concerning Iraqi crimes in Iran lead Saddam to believe the same indifference would be shown if he invaded Kuwait, leading to the Gulf War which closely ties into the events of today.
So, had the west taken the side of Iran during the Iran Iraq war, perhaps because the new government wasn't so overly anti western, what would be the consequences of the war and eventually the consequences of today's geopolitical climate.

Is it true that Iran bought weapons from Israel during the war? Because according to this article on Wikipedia it's seems so. Now I know that there are a lot of disinformation campaign happened accross the Middle East in all these conflicts. That's why I can't that really belive it.
But if that's true, wouldn't that give Iran something.... well, hypocritical, considering that Iran is actually fighting for the freedom of the Palestinians and sees Zionism as its arch-enemy?
Don't get me wrong. I'm NOT against you. It sounds just a bit weird to me and want to understand the whole picture.
