I am traveling back to Thailand and I really want to be able to drive this time.
I had planned on trying to get a driver license in Thailand. But saw a post on something called an International Driving Permit.
So looked into it and what a weird thing. So apparently AAA in the US is able to issue something called a International Drivers Permit for $20. You do also have to give them 2 passport photos.
I struggle to find why it would be valid even though it appears it is?
I mean there is NO test or anything. You just go to AAA and give them $20 and you have an international drivers license.
I did see a reference that there were two organizations with the right to issue these in North America and then it listed AAA as one of the organizations. But did not list the other one?
Did a bunch of Googling and could never find the name of the other one that is official? There is plenty of ads from other companies but I could not verify they were one of the two authorized.
I did find additonal references that AAA was the only one in the US. There there are two in North American and the other one maybe is in Canada?

I am planning on driving from Purdue to Chicago for Thanksgiving given that bus prices are so expensive.

From my knowledge, Indiana accepts international drivers permit for a year, but I'm not sure of Illinois.
My cousin just got the Dubai resident visa, and can he drive in Dubai with IDP until he get the Dubai Driver's License or is it illegal?
When I came here in August 2020, I came with an international driving permit (IDP). I was just visiting back then, so my understanding is as a non-EU foreigner, I could drive with that for 1-year. But sometime in March 2021 I got my NIE and became a resident. I've read that asa. resident, you can drive with an IDP for 6-months.
So, now we're at the end of June. Let's say I came here 1 Aug 2020, and I became a spanish resident on 15 March 2021. For how long can I drive here with my foreign driver's license and the IDP?

I just received my new international driving permit from abroad but I’ve lived in England on a BRP for the last 1 and a half years …does the 12 month period of the international driving permit begin from when I re-enter the Uk or has it expired already as this is a New International Permit that I didn’t have before

So I'm an Australian, and my wife spent a few months living in BC before we met, she's hoping to bring me back one day and show me how beautiful Canada is.
I'm a truck driver by profession, up to generally 70,000kg/26m long and getting my Multi Combination Ticket later this year allowing me up to 53.5m length and 160,000kg so I know a bit about trucks.
Not looking to drive anything that big, just something like a coach sized RV/Camper which in Australia would be classed as a Heavy Rigid (3-5 axles, around 15-35 tonnes)
I've had a look on sites, but I can only find information on obtaining a Canadian drivers licence or transferring my licence across and any required gap training/testing
So my international driver's permit will show my Australian licence qualification and a brief description, so Multi-Combination.
So if I was to hire a bus/motorhome could I legally drive it?
I did send an email off to the government through the website however they only came back with how to transfer my licence, which wasn't very helpful.
For this class of vehicle, do I need a Heavy Vehicle Work Diary to record work/rest hours and such? Can I bring my Australian one or would I have to obtain a Canadian one?
In Australia some motorhomes have an exemption, but they aren't as common as they should be, generally if they have a tow hitch and can tow >9,000kg they can't get an exemption, as in theory you could throw a dolly convertor behind them and haul loads on a trailer.

My mate is coming over from Spain for a university exchange program, he currently holds a full Spanish license and will obtain an international drivers permit upon arrival; will he be able to supervise me as an L driver? RMS website says a “full Australian drivers license” is required, but i cannot find anything on the overseas license page stating explicitly that they cannot supervise Learner drivers. Apparently it is allowed in Victoria, so I cant see how it wouldn’t be allowed here... i don’t usually use reddit, are there any other perhaps more suitable subreddits for this sort of question? Hi there, myself and two friends are planning a trip to travel around in Thailand via motorbike, my two friends both have licences in the UK to ride a motorbike, I myself do not, but know how to ride a bike as I live on a farm and have been doing so for many years. Getting a license is not an issue I can do so if required.
My question is do I need to get one? If so do I also need an IDP (International Driving Permit) to either purchase or rent a motorbike? I would preferably want to buy a motorbike as we plan on travelling all around Thailand and may finish in Vietnam (we are still planning our route) and thus wish to keep the bikes and not have to return them, but sell them at our final destination or give them away.
Would you mind answering both De Facto and De Jure? I mean in reality do we really need one? If not what happens if we are caught? Is it simply a case of giving a "gift" or what? Again I am more than happy to acquire a license and IDP if in reality we do need one, but if not then it just saves some time and money. Indian embassies and missions across the world will soon initiate steps to facilitate the renewal of International Driving Permits (IDP) for those citizens whose permit has expired while they are staying abroad. According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), citizens can apply for the renewal of their IDP through Indian embassy/mission abroad portals, following which their application will be moved to the national vehicle registry 'VAHAN' for consideration by the respective RTOs (regional transport offices).
"It has come to notice that for citizens who are in a foreign country, the International Driving Permit gets expired and there is no mechanism for its renewal while abroad," the ministry said in its statement.
As per the statement, the ministry has proposed to amend the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 to facilitate the issuance of IDP to citizens whose permit has expired while they are in foreign countries. Furthermore, the ministry is proposing to remove the conditions of a medical certificate and a valid visa in the renewal request application, noting that there are certain countries which provides visa on arrival and in such cases, the visa was not available while applying for IDP in India before travelling abroad.
Launched by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways under the Indian Government, VAHAN is an e-portal providing various services to the citizens including vehicle registration, payment of taxes and registration of vehicles, and issuance of vehicular permits among many services.
At the same time, the government has also issued a draft notification, seeking suggestions and remarks from citizens to make such amendments to Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 for the welfare of the public.

How necessary is it to have an International Driving Permit when renting scooters/mopeds around SEA?
I understand its not technically legal to do so without one however many vloggers/bloggers and friends have done so without - but I'm wondering if its a relativity easy process to rent without one.

So i was pulled over during early evening on a busy street making an illegal u turn. Me and my group of 4 friends were visiting spain from California. The van that pulled us over looked like an unmarked police vehicle and the guys(4) that came out were all dressed in casual clothing. They made us pay two fines then and there: one was a charge to credit card for 125 euros. The other was a charge of 250 euros that could only be paid in cash. Other police cars came with cops in full uniform and seemed like they were making sure everything was ok. They gave us a receipt for both tickets after we paid but i feel like we were conned. We were told The 125 euro fine was for not having the international permit and the 250 euros cash was for the illegal u turn. Is this normal?
I need to get an international driving permit to drive in Japan. It looks like Japan ONLY accepts the 1949 version though. This document I found on police.ge says that the Georgian government issues IDPs following the 1968 standard. Does anyone know if I can request a 1949 version from the service agency?

Is Philippine International Driving Permit allowed for use in the UAE? If so, what else do I need to bring aside from the permit when I visit UAE? For how many days can I use it there?

I did some searching and reading but I get conflicting info. I get the impression you don't really need one but you might, like a Garda in a bad mood might fine you 200 Euro if you don't have one. Anyone have any insight?

Hello everyone! I am an Indian citizen and a holder of a valid Indian car and motorcycle driving license. I am planning a trip to Vietnam, and I want to rent motorcycles to travel within cities rather than risk the public transit and taxis - being from a 3rd world country myself, I can understand what a hassle buses can be.
The trouble is, I am getting conflicting information online about the validity of international driver's permits in Vietnam. My question is simply - would I be able to hire motorcycles there, provided I have an IDP? Or would it be too much of a hassle, and I should just use taxis?
