A list of puns related to "Inguinal hernia"
Iβm 18 and my doctor found out that I have a small inguinal hernia about a month ago. Thereβs no bulge, just a pressure/mild discomfort feeling after working out or any strenuous activity. I have an appointment with a surgeon who specializes in hernia repair next week.. but I am worried that doing the inguinal hernia repair can possibly negatively affect fertility (im scared that the surgery can damage the sensitive area) as I am a still pretty young getting this. Am I overthinking this? Is everything going to be fine and itβs not as bad?
Hi folks,
I'm a 34y male who was diagnosed with a right inguinal hernia about 4 months ago after I noticed persistant pain in the groin after lifting weights.
The thing is that I have no noticeable bulge at all except occasionally when laying down in bed I notice a small lump. Even had a few doctors who couldn't even tell it was there but finally got it confirmed with an ultrasound.
I recently had a consultation with a surgeon who commented on how it's small and totally up to me if I want to repair it or not, so I'm currently sitting on the fence.
I do occasionally feel a throbbing pain around my groin, especially after exercising (I've quit weightlifting completely) but I've never experienced the kind of bulge that I see other people describing. The pain is annoying but it's certainly not disrupting my life (though I would like to be able to life weights again).
A part of me thinks it's worth repairing now before it gets any worse but I've also never had surgery and know I shouldn't take it lightly... Has anyone been in a similar situation?
I'm also curious if anyone has experienced other GI issues like cramping or acid reflux along with an inguinal hernia? I'm experiencing other symptoms and have no idea if it's because the hernia or if I have something else going on...
Hi i am new and just after some advise The past 2 months i have been experiencing discomfort in the lower left groin aswell as abdomen. I notice it mostly in the lower left of the abdomen aswell as the groin near the pelvic bone. The pain/discomfort changes on a daily basis as some days it will be a dull pain or others it can feel more of a bloating discomfort or burning. It can feel like a bubble in the pelvis which inflates. It can also move to the right of the groin down to the testicles. My pubic area feels as though it is sore or inflamed, I have noticed a feeling of being bloated more often and notice I have been constipated more. Recently it has travelled to my lower back, it is not excruciating but I can notice it is there. Some days It goes completly and other days I notice it all day, i feel as though it is an inguinal hernia and I am worried about the possibility of surgery. Do these symptoms point to a hernia?? Where is best to get this diagnosed as my GP very rarely offer appointments face to face, but thought a&e would not be great either.
Thanks
Iβm 38 years old and was just diagnosed with an inguinal hernia after some mild pain and discomfort in my groin. It has become much worse over the last few days.
Iβve not even heard back from the surgeon yet nor seen him.
My question isβ¦should I be worried? I can live this short time with the discomfort but Iβm afraid of making it worst. Iβm not lifting anything heavy but it feels like my guts are trying to turn loose.
Ease my mind!
I'm due to have surgery next week for 2 hernias: An Umbilical hernia and an Incarcerated Inguinal hernia. The latter has descended (intestine/fat?) into my scrotum and it is now twice its normal size and a bit uncomfortable... I assume they will somehow push that back into my abdomen before applying the mesh? The Dr asked if I am able to push it in myself and I said I was originally but there was now too much in there to push it back in.
I wanted to ask him about this but he had some sort of emergency come up and left abruptly so I never got the chance.
Any advice from former patients would be greatly appreciated and thank you!
So I had a really horrible throat infection recently and because I coughed so much I'm pretty sure I've got a hernia now. Obviously I'm going to the docs to check it out, so no need to tell me to do that.
But I'm interested in anyone else that's had a hernia and how long you were out from skating. Since I started 6 months ago I've got very into skating and it's become my main exercise. The prospect of being out for months feels shitty, but as a 39yo I'm willing to accept it if that's what's needed. I'm just kinda hoping it won't be that bad but understand it probably will be π
UPDATE - I've talked to the doctor and been to the hospital. They basically said they think it's minor and they're sending a letter to my doctor to recommend an ultrasound, other than that they're doing nothing and just told me to not exert myself. So not really sure how to make sure it doesn't get worse tbh π€·π½ββοΈ
very random, but. ive struggled with what i thought was an inguinal hernia for years now. the lump is present at times the pain is often there. but then it goes away. but i have consisten sharp pain if i sneeze a lot or something like that. but something that always occurs is extreme sharpshooting pain in the inguinal femoral area right before and also during my period (menstrual bleed). its so bad sometimes it hurts to sit down or move my leg upward. i also can feel increased pain if im constipated or if i have to pee really badly. this is really odd to me as the pain amplifies during my period. i also only have one ovary and its on the side where the pain is.
i also previously had a CT scan done for my what i thought was hernia and of course nothing showed up probably because when i lay down it disappears and is small.
Im just curious if anyone else has ever dealt with this or noticed anything like this in themselves. thank yall!
Hey everyone. 32yo male here. I had an open, bi lateral inguinal hernia repair done two years ago. 4 meshes implanted. Recovery was rough but I learned to live with soreness after exertion etc. Problem is, a little over a week ago, I noticed much more discomfort than normal. Like I couldnβt take care of it with a hot water bottle and ibuprofen. So I decided to keep an eye on it and itβs gotten worse. On my left side, where the mesh is, there is a hard lump(s) and the entire inguinal canal is very tender. Right side no hard lump but again at the site of the mesh there is swelling and pain/discomfort. You know the feeling, itβs just like before I had the procedure but somehow the pain is worse. My groin/lower abdomen seems βstiffβ not really swollen just kind of tight? And the discomfort is unbearable, like standing sucks, laying down is worse etc.
I made an apt with my GP, who gave me a referral to a surgeon without any fuss. The problem is, the surgeon isnβt taking it seriously at all. I am in worse pain then before the surgery, have new hard lumps (!?) under and around the mesh and swelling and pain around both sites. Not tI mention running a fever (101, drops with Tylenol but steady for two days) He took a cursory look at it and started βmonologuingβ to his students about the lymphatic system and that he thinks I have swollen lymph nodes? I was so confused, he knows I had the repair done two years ago. I stated clearly what I was experiencing and what I was worried about. He told me he wanted to wait a few weeks? I basically had to beg him to order an ultrasound, which he said he would. But Iβm so confused.
I had a lot of trouble getting the initial diagnoses two years ago, lots of trips to gp, surgeon, e.r etc. they ordered CT, didnβt show anything. Doc said it didnβt look like one etc. finally a sympathetic NP ordered an ultrasound for testicular torsion (because they had already sternly ruled out hernia) and while doing it the Tech asked βthey arenβt concerned with the massive hernias?β After which I finally got a surgery etc. Iβm just dumbfounded as to why itβs so hard to diagnose? It displays much more prominently when standing (as do most) and I try to make sure to point out the (obvious to me) βtrouble areasβ you know the bulging areas on my inguinal canal, now hard and lumpy under the mesh.( those lumps and bulges were not present post surgery until this last week)
After the surgeon told me US could take a week or two, and the pain got

Kind of a strange request... I had a surgery scheduled for next week but I recently discovered my surgeon had a malpractice conviction in the past that resulted in a patients death so I have decided to move on. If anyone has any recommendations I would appreciate it. Thank you!
So, yeah, I've had an inguinal/scrotal hernia for +20 years.
I was 12 years old when I started noticing a bump in my left lower abdominal area, very close the penis. I told my dad about it. He took me to see a doctor who immediately wanted to make surgery. My dad had a disk hernia many years ago an it was hell for him, the surgery was very complicated so he didn't want me to get surgery so young. So we waited...
The doctor advised me not to make any sports, but I had always been very active. At first I listened to the doctor, but little by little I kept playing and exercising. Slowly, it kept growing and reached my scrotum, but it never hurt. It reached the current size by the time I was around 18. I'm 33 now.
I have always been able to retract it / push it in at will. Sometimes it "stays in" for hours, sometimes only seconds. At night, it goes "in" by itself and in the morning it takes sometime to descend. I describe it as if during the night (or the time I lay down and gravity helps), the abdominal wall heals a little bit and prevents it from descending for a few hours.
It has never hurt or made anything uncomfortable. Or at least not in the hernia by itself. I don't know how to explain it, but I'll try.
Some days it feels like it does descend, but not "through the regular path", and it hurts a little, but strangely it hurts in the left middle abdominal area. I have to lay down for a few minutes, then I stand up and then it's all OK.
I am quite active. A few years ago, before getting children I used to run full 42km marathons. I have a six-pack. I can do ab trainings, quite demanding. It has never affected my sexual life, nor my fertility, I have 2 healthy beautiful little girls. I recently had a vasectomy, 3 weeks ago. The healing was a little bit affected by the hernia descending all the time, but now I am 98% recovered.
I have only had sex with 1 woman my whole life, and it doesn't seem to bother her. I have asked her and she says it does not bother her, she could be lying about it but I know when she lies and she seems to be honest about this. Everytime we have sex, I try to push the hernia in before starting, but many times it descends during the session. I don't feel it, but I get uncomfortable because of the possiblity that my wife would be uncomfortable with it.
To be honest, the only reasons why I would have surgery now, is because of the aesthetics, because of the above stated reasons, and because I realized I had accepted to
... keep reading on reddit β‘Last week I had successfully robotic/laparoscopic surgery (TAPP hernia repair with anatomical program mesh) to fix a mild, mostly asymptomatic, inguinal hernia on my left side - I wanted to nip it in the bud.
Recovery thus far has been uneventful. Aside from some mild tenderness at the incision points and occasional discomfort in one small section of my abdominal cavity (more on that in a sec), I'm feeling great. But, I'm curious as to the anatomy of these post-surgery pains, and what happens over the coming weeks/months.
When I asked my surgeon, prior to the surgery, about the procedure, he sent me a great video specific to a TAPP Hernia repair and it was a great resource to see what happened inside of me during the surgery. But now, having gone through it, I'm curious to learn more about the pains I felt, feel, and what happens - physiologically - over the coming weeks as the mesh 'takes hold' so to speak.
1) Pain Points: Most interesting to me was where the strongest pain was and wasn't. I was a bit surprised not to feel any pain at the actual site of my hernia. If I pressed on the area gently, I could feel some tenderness, but it was quite mild.
I had three symmetrical incisions straight across my abdomen for this procedure. The strongest pain occurred about midway between the left incision and the hernia (also on my left side). Were I to draw lines between all three incisions and the hernia, there wasn't much, if any, direct pain on the paths between the central and right incisions. Only the left side.
While I did have some global abdominal soreness, I attributed that to my stomach being stretched out during the procedure but that faded after about 2 days.
The remaining pocket of pain I'm dealing with (which is mild) is in that one aforementioned area midway between the left incision and the hernia. At this point, I can only really feel it if I press into that section of my abdomen. It's not really a bother, is getting better, and isn't sharp or throbbing. I'm just curious why that area was most affected.
My only (slightly) educated guess is that the left incision is the one in which the surgeon inserted the mesh, and the mesh, being as 'grippy' as it is, pulled a lot of membranous/connective tissue along with it that lead to increased inflammation in that section of my abdominal cavity.
2) Further healing: At this point, I feel like I'm 95% healed. I still have some general disco
... keep reading on reddit β‘Hey everyone,
Last Friday I got a surgery for an indirect inguinal hernia using a mesh. The first few days were rough but at this point I am walking pretty well and I just feel generalized weakness of my abdominal muscles and some pressure because of swelling. This evening I took a shower and as I was drying my legs off I felt a pop from the surgery site.
I donβt have any new pain at all, however I am still somewhat concerned. Is this concern valid?
I have had an inguinal hernia for many years as well as upper GI symptoms, such as bloating, belching, loss of appetite. In general these symptoms are usually caused by other things but just curious to see if anyone has experienced this. I could imagine the small bowel getting pinched and slowing digestion, causing upper GI symptoms, but I don't know if there's any merit to this at all.
22 yo/ male. I do bodybuilding and am very fit / healthy. Just had a laparoscopic right side inguinal hernia repair done 4 days ago. Iβve been walking pretty much all day today and feel great but towards the evening the area where the hernia was, and mesh now is, is sore. Should I be worried about damaging the mesh or is this just to be expected for a while?

My insurance is being wonky right now so I can't talk to my doc till the 1st of February.
Out of all those issues listed, what can be causing me a SHARP pain on my lower left abdomen? I'm assuming my hernia and constipation (as it happens when I push- more- Yes, I know I need to not push as much as possible). But could it be my prostate messing with my tubes or something? The pain sometimes goes to the left side of my penis.
What's the most likely cause of this pain?
Basically, I have a small inguinal hernia on my lower left side. I saw a surgeon who does a lot of hernia surgeries and he said that he would use mesh to repair the hernia. I wasn't worried until I started researching and seeing so many negative stories about chronic side effects :/ I'm a woman in her mid-20s who is really active (run, hike/backpack, rock climb, bike) and apparently it's uncommon for women to have the kind of hernia that I have.
Has anyone had a good or normal experience getting mesh hernia repair? Or other women who've had an inguinal hernia? I don't even have frequent symptoms anymore so I'm wondering if I should even get the surgery soon or not. Tbh all the horrible stories are making me question if it's worth it.
Hi folks, I need your suggestions regarding a client of mine aged 30 female with inguinal herniation. She have not gotten the surgery but later in the future. We will be doing the total body workout and some core. What type of exercise would be optimal for her case?
I had a mesh repair done for bilateral inguinal hernias in June 2020 (at the time I was 19 y/o) and about a week afterward I had severe shooting pains on the right side that mostly resolved after several weeks. However, the pain has been recurring with varying severity on and off up until the present day. Other than that I have also had aching pains that come and go in my left side since the surgery as well. I just wanted to ask if anybody here has had a similar experience, and what you did about it. I have gone back to see my surgeon several times and every time he says the repairs are βsolid.β
Hello. I've had inguinal hernia on the right side for two years now and on the left side for a year. I had my laparoscopic surgery with mesh implanted 9 days ago. I'm worried about swollen spermatic cord on the right side. At first it was kinda painful but now after a week it's just hard and sensitive.
I know swelling is normal but I'm worried because under fingers I can track it/feel it whole way to the place where hernia was and I guess now mesh is. Left side is normal but right side is swollen. I'm not sure should I seek medical attention or no?
My father had the same surgery two years ago and he had the swelling for 4 weeks and it's still painful to the touch.
Can mesh overlap with spermatic cord and cause problems? How often is it and how does it manifest?
Thank you.
Update: everything is okay and in its place. Swelling is normal and it should pass in the next month or so. Pain/stinging stopped. Doctor said I shouldn't sit more than 15-20 minutes at the time and that sitting was probably the cause of pain.
Had an open repair done. Recovery felt right on track and was ready to try sex at the 3 week mark (had zero pain or discomfort that whole day). About 24 hours later had really bad testicle pain and back pain - worse than at any point in the surgery. After no relief for a day, I went to the ER and they did exams, blood tests, urine tests, and two ultrasounds. Results came back clean. It has been 5 days now since the pain started and has gotten more tolerable, but the pains till persists. Called my surgeon today and waiting for callback but wanted to see if this has happened to anybody else and how long it takes to get better.
The hernia is on my left side. I had a laparoscopic repair done with a mesh on my left side. 14 days later I'm still sore at the big incision and I feel a hardball where the patch is that is sore and to the left of the big incision which is getting better over time. When I sneeze I hold my tummy where the big incision is and where the hernia is. I can still feel something push when I hold my hernia. It's the same it was when I had it and would hold it when I sneezed. I talked to the surgeon and he said to come in and two weeks and we'd know for sure but I'm wondering if this is something anyone else has experienced. Am I going to have to get the surgery again? :/
It's been a year since I can't feel my left testicle. It's like my left testicle is not inside the scrotum. I have an inguinal hernia, is this the reason for the missing testicle?
Iβm 12 days out from my surgery where I had an inguinal and incisional hernia repaired with mesh. The hernia was in my left side with no bulge (Iβm female).
Iβve been off any pain killers for over a week but Iβm experiencing a pinching pain in groin area when I move around. I can manage without taking anything for it but it is making me very aware of the area. Itβs not constant but Iβm definitely not imagining it. Iβm assuming thatβs it the scar tissue forming but you know what they say about assumingπ€ͺ
For those who have had the surgery did you feel pinching and pulling pain this far out from the surgery?
If so how bad was it and what was it like
