A list of puns related to "Heaven Sent (Doctor Who)"
So i love doctor who(duh),even after listening to big finish(like a lot of it) Heaven sent is the best thing ever.(scherzo is a close 2nd)
This episode was the definition of very hyped for me . All whovians seemed to love this and my whovian friend told me this was his favorite. And not even the overhype could stop its brilliancw from taking over me.
I loved Face the Raven its in my top 15 new who episodes.I especially looooooove the final moments.
And Now we come to my favorite piece of fiction ever and the only thing i can give a 10/10(prior to this it was 2001 9.9/10)
Objectively this story is perfect. Ive watched it 19 times and whenever i have found a 'plothole' I find and explanation by Moffat or a fan theory or my head canon to easily explain everything.
This story on 1st watch may not seem that complex but if you dig deep you find so many phenomenal things in it. Like the timeline construction,Why the clues dont reset, etc
Now for subjective stuff.
-There are 5 major things thay make this episode as good as it is. Amazing editing,Talalay's direction,Gold's score,Capaldis acting and most importantly moffats script. Capaldi is the best actor to play the doctor and in my top 2 favorites with 11. Talalay is the best who director and Golds music is always stellar.
Moffat is my favorite sci fi maker (and since sci fi is my favorite genre he is my favorite fiction creator),2nd is probably Robert Shearman. He is my favorite showrunner too i loved the show under him quite a bit more than Davies ir JNT or Hinchcliffe. The series arcs,The doctors, etc were all fantastic.
-This is the best deconstruction of my Favorite fiction character ever. Things thoughout moffats era like the doctor lies, how quickly he reads the room in fractions of seconds, etc are paired beautifully .The whole why he left gallifrey i love that another theory is added to that. the best part is if you dont like this explanation u can take the one from TUAT and so on.
-Breaking the wall oh my god that scene top 3 scenes of fiction ever FRICKING LOVE IT.
-The scene where 12 says "im scared and im alone.... Alone" i chocked up it was so beautifully delivered
-This story is a mystery thriller but it also has moments of excellent comedy, drama, etc
Amd i can go on but i will stop now.
Oh wait this thing ends on the cliffhanger to end all cliffhangers.
And i havent even mentioned the perfect grief messaging and how creepy the monster is.
In words of full fat vi
... keep reading on reddit β‘I honestly don't know where to start. Coming from the last episode where Clara faces the raven, I knew we were going to get a very grim Doctor, and Peter Capaldi was absolutely superb. Peter really showed the emotional side of the Doctor, being forced to say confessions to buy time and find a way out of the "torture chamber". Really showed that the Doctor will go through great lengths to find the people responsible for his grievances. The man literally spent a billion years to chip at a wall with his bare fists, if that doesn't show perseverance or dedication then I don't know what does. Overall, really great writing and a wonderful performance by Peter Capaldi. Glad I'm catching up, I was blown away by how captivated I was with this episode.
I'm not good at maths, so I've probably made a few mistakes, but here's a go at understanding how many times the cycle was made anyway:
So, in Heaven Sent, the Doctor breaks out of the confession dial by setting up a cycle where he gets to the crystal wall, punching it to gradually erode it, getting fatally wounded by the veil then using his dying body to power the teleport, aware that there is a copy of himself inside due to the protocols. The question is, how many times did he have to do this when the wall broke?
Well, the cycle from the teleport to the creation of a new Doctor takes approximately a week, given the time it takes the Doctor to explore the castle, rest, eat and unravel the mystery his previous self had set before. There are approximately 52 weeks in a year, so if 1 week= 1 Doctor, then 1 year= 52 Doctors.
Now, during Hell Bent, Ohila (from the Sisterhood of Karn) reveals that the Doctor was in the dial for "around 4 and a half billion years", which in numbers, is 4,500,000,000.
So if 1 year = 52 Doctors, then multiply 52 by 4 and a half billion should reveal a rough amount of the Doctors that were created then destroyed within the confession dial. So:
52 x 4,500,000,000 = 234,000,000,000
As a result, we can estimate that the Doctor had to burn and recreate himself a minimum of 234 billion times.
Here is a thread to discuss todayβs Lockdown episode Heaven Sent!
The past few weeks, Doctor Who has started doing frequent re-watches and live-tweets from show runners and actors of beloved episodes. Starting with The Day of the Doctor, the 50th anniversary, this has blown up in a big way.
Today at 8 PM BST/3 PM EST, there is going to be a live-tweet of Series 9's penultimate episode Heaven Sent, maybe the best episode in show history for Peter Capaldi's birthday. Peter Capaldi is trapped alone in a castle, no TARDIS, no companion, just his own wits as he tries to outrun an unstoppable enemy forever slowly pursuing him. If you haven't seen how he breaks free, I won't spoil it, but it's one of the most shocking solutions to a Doctor Who episode ever.
The writer Steven Moffat and director Rachel Talaly will be live-tweeting the episode with thoughts and behind the scenes content.
Here's the trailer for the watch-along
Here's a list of the live-tweeters

Very subjective question of course, but I'd love to see what y'all think!
I think that moment was just the perfect amalgamation of excellent writing, acting, filming, music, all coming together to form the perfect scene.
It's been 5 days and I still can't stop thinking about this absolute gem of a series. However, I feel something extra could have been done:
This is where I think they could've taken a cue from Doctor Who's Heaven Sent episode. Not the plot cues, but the way 'Eternity' was shown. The showrunner dedicated 3 minutes in that ep to show the elements of loop again and again to make viewers feel the suffering of the Doctor. >!I believe, towards the end of S3E7, a similar 2-3 minutes scene showing all flashback and neverending cycle would have made us more empathetic towards Adam, Eva and Claudia's suffering.!<
Only these points are what I feel needed a little extra detail. Rest all plot points seems fine, with the never ending fan speculations and realisations and all.
This show will always be a masterpiece, never believe anything else.
EDIT: This is the scene I'm referring to. Watch it with closed captions ON. You don't have to know any background on it and it would still make sense.
He loved it and watching him try to not only solve the internal puzzle of the episode, but who The Doctor is and what he is was fascinating.
His observations include:
>This old dude looks like he's kinda a wuss but he's like a secret badass
>Who is the girl? Is she real? Oh she's a ghost! Wait, she's in the painting! Oh no she's like something from Hannibal [Lector's] memory palace, he's manifesting her to help himself.
>He must have really loved her. We're they married?
>What is this fucking music!? Can I buy it?
>Wait... WHAT? Wait he's been in there for how long hold on let me re-wind.
>Dude. The skulls. Are. All. His. What the fuck? This show is metal.
>I love this old badass. He's basically a Saiyan [from Dragon Ball]
>How could he love anyone this much? Who was she? What is gonna do when he breaks this wall
>Oh shit. He's out. Someone is gonna pay
His overall interest is beyond hyped, and after a quick conversation (well it was 2+ hours long) he wants to start with the Season 5 opener (I think it is the best place for him, but I hope he goes back to watch 1-4 and then classic stuff).
I loved his reactions to the episode so much.
Ok, so I'm a big big fan of Murray Gold's music for the show. I've got many many favorite titles. But I just got around to getting the series 9 CD. One disk is devoted to just one episode: Heaven Sent. I've been playing it and playing it over and over. The Shepherd Boy is hands down my favorite. Its powerful and deep with meaning. The melancholia, the pain, the sorrow, the determination just pours out. I think I want this played at my wake.

With the darker tone of series 9 in general and Heaven Sent in particular, I have heard voices voicing concern here and there that Doctor Who is not for kids anymore, or, alternatively, expressing happiness over the fact that Doctor Who is "for adults" now.
I completely disagree. Doctor Who was always for adults and it was always for children.
One of the most wonderful things in the wake of this magnificent, magnificent episode was that I saw so many people on Twitter and Gallifreybase (the "What did the kids and the Not-We think of the episode" thread is always my go-to review collection) mentioning how much their children loved it. They didn't care it was complicated. They didn't care it was dark. They didn't care it basically consisted of an older man monologuing for an hour.
What we have to remember is that kids see these episodes differently than adults. Kids are used to not always understanding the complete plot of something, so they usually don't care about plot holes or a complicated story structure. What they want is an experience. And boy, did Heaven Sent deliver one for them. All the things that made this episode so great, the atmosphere, the creepiness, the feeling of being trapped and alone and a central hero who will never ever give up translate just as well no matter whether you're desperately clinging to Capaldi's mouth, trying to piece all the clues together or just enjoy it by letting the experience take over.
The biggest triumph of Heaven Sent (an episode which, just remember, will go down in Who history as one of the biggest triumphs of the very same) may just be that it doesn't matter whether you're a classic fan who cherishes their collection of the Virgin New Adventures, swings their fist at continuity errors and longs for a meaty sci-fi plot or whether you're a child who just wants to be swept up in a scary adventure. In both cases, you get the feeling that this episode was made exactly for you. And what better thing could you possible say about any work of art?
Heaven Sent is indeed one hell of a bird by taking a 73% victory against World Enough and Time / The Doctor Falls in the bonus exhibition round.
It wasn't unexpected by any means, but I'm glad Heaven Sent got one match in for the tournament. I'm very certain it would've have stomped its away to victory had it had not been inducted into the Hall of Fame. So well done, Heaven Sent. You truly are in a class all to yourself and may go back into retirement.
And thus concludes all matters related to Doctor Who December Madness.
If you are still in the voting mood, for January, I took all the "losers" from the first two rounds of the December tournament bracket and will be running a Doctor Who Madness: Losers Tournament.
That's right. A tournament of no Blinks, no World Enoughs and Times, no Days of The Doctors, none of the titans of Doctor Who.
Who knows what episode is gonna win. So come on over and vote for the underdog episodes.

I found this quote from the latest DWM someone posted in the comments on the Doctor Who TV website:
>Heaven Sent and Hell Bent are two of Doctor Who's finest episodes. We're not lying. They're pretty outre, instant classics, with - at their beating hearts - a wild, fulminating Doctor.
Okay then!
