A list of puns related to "HMS Hunter (D80)"
Hello all! I currently have a D80 I purchased in 2007 that now has the persistent 'ERR' on it. Occasionally I can get it to snap pictures, but more often than not it's just a source of frustration when I'm out and about.
The local camera shop said they can't repair it and they said Nikon will refuse to fix it as well. I've tried trouble shooting through tips and tricks I found searching around Google, but none of them worked long-term. I'm assuming it's a mechanical issue rather than a software issue. I am slowly coming to the realization that the $1700 camera I bought eons ago is dying and needs replaced, since I can't find anyone to repair it.
Anyway, the local camera shop was recommending I just buy a whole new camera, saying that new cameras even on the lower price range are going to take better quality photos. While I'm sure that's very true, and selling me a new camera is also in their vested interest. heh
They recommended the D3500 for the lower, D5600 for the mid, and the D7500 for the higher price range.
As far as my skillset and what I use it for, I'm a hobbyist with no formal photography training. I enjoy taking pictures of family, the Montana landscapes and wildlife where I live. Occasionally I'll make the effort for night shots of the Milky Way or something like that. Having built in video would be nice, but not required as I nearly always have my Pixel phone in my pocket.
Are these recommendations solid? Or are there others in the Nikon lineup you would recommend more?
And to ask my most noob question, are the D80 lenses compatible with the newer Nikons? Like could I just get the new body only? Or do you recommend getting the stock lenses with them, as they might also be better quality?
Thanks so much in advance!
its a joke btw

I'm looking to replace my Nikon D80 (50k shutter counts) with a newer DSLR. I mainly shoot nature, landscapes and wildlife.
I use these lenses:
and often use a battery grip.
The only real complaint I have for the D80 are low light performance (especially when shooting wildlife), with lots of noise already at 800 ISO, and low FPS. Higher resolution might come in handy for distant wildlife or noise reduction.
I'm tempted by the D7500 as a natural upgrade from the D80, but I'm put off by the fact that it is a 3 years old model. I can get this for 820 EUR, or 1050 EUR with a 18-140mm VR kit lens.
I would jump on an hypothetical D7600 even at a slightly higher price. I tried the D5600, but I'd miss the LCD display and I believe it'd have issues with my Tokina.
I'm also considering an upgrade to the D780, much more recent, although it costs almost twice as much body only. Having mostly DX lenses, I wouldn't really take full advantage of the FX sensor until I replace them. Doable, but will make me shed even more cash.
Both would mean losing the battery grip, but I can live with that.
So my questions are:
Thanks!
Hello Im slowly looking for a upgrade my first body Nikon D80 for something better. I pictured mostly of motorsport pictures so I need fast and precise AF which D80 don't have too good. I don't have precised budget, but rule cheaper better is always good, maximum budget which i can spend it around D7200 used one. Lens which I have is Nikkor AF-S 70-300 f/4.5-5.6g if-ed vr and prime Nikkor AF 50 1.8, also Kit one 18-135, but I don't use it too much now. For this body I want to stay in DX range and in the future upgrade to the Nikkor AF-S 70-200 2.8 (or something else??)
My question it's D300/D300s will be enough or better to check D7100 (which cost sometimes similar money) or go for the D7200. From my perspective starting from D80 I think which I don't choose there I will feel big difference between D80, but how big differences for motorsport photography it's between D300/s D7100, D7200 and maybe other model?
