A list of puns related to "Guinness Foreign Extra Stout"
Can only be ordered 24 bottles at a time for 5 dollars a bottle. So I am wondering if its worth it? Good beer or is the original Guinness better?
So I had a bottle of stout the other night and it didn't taste as strong as I remembered. Then I realised that the alcohol content has dropped from around 7% (or 7+%) to 5.5%.
This wouldn't bother me so much if the price dropped along with it, but I'm finding that my favourite drinking places are actually raising prices of the new, watered-down stout. Am I the only one who has noticed this?
Edit: Seems like the consensus is that the off flavor was most likely due to poor handling of the beer through transportation and storage. I would love to hear feedback from anyone who has had the privilege of touring the Belikin factory.
Original Post:
I had the privilege of vacationing in Belize over the holidays and trying the local beers. I got a bottle of Guinness Foreign Extra Stout hoping for something a bit more flavourful than the thinner Belikin and was very surprised by what I encountered. The color was more of a dark-brown, black, not the traditional jet black and the head was much thinner and porous than the normal thick head (I wasn't expecting the nitrous-made thick frothy head). The taste wasn't there either. I'd compare it to what I'd expect an inexperienced homebrewer to produce if they tried to replicate a Guinness Stout. There was also a Belikin Premium with a red foil around the cap that was similarly displeasing. While a stronger tasting and darker beer than normal Belikin, it was not well balanced and did not make for good drinking.
Does anyone have any familiarity with this regional difference? I know beers are different around the world and "if you want a good Guinness, you need to go to Ireland . . .", but this was truly surprising. I learned how Belikin uses the term "stout" to mean "stronger" and is not a reference to the specific style of beer, but was very surprised to see this apply to a name brand like Guinness. I'm very curious of the history of this practice and the background of how (I presume) Belikin gets to reproduce such a drastically different product under the Guinness name.
Also, I found Mackeson XXX! It's on the shelves in San Pedro, Belize! One more reason to get out of the states and down to some nice tropical weather!
Had it today for the first time and was amazed by how much tastier than Guinness regular or extra stout it is. Wondering yall's opinions on this brew, and how it stacks up.
My local shop finally got in the 12oz 4-packs. The first one went down pretty quick and tasted amazing. The second not as fast but still just as delicious. By number 3 I was sipping and savoring. I'm on number 4 right now and pouring it out 4ozs at a time to keep it chill and pace myself. God I love this fucking beer!
Does this exist anywhere. It's pretty damn good in a bottle even.
I bought a four pack of this in the U.S. and found it to be significantly better than the bottled original, draught, or extra stout. Whatβs the difference?
