A list of puns related to "Waterford"
As a Cork City native I find it honestly quite insulting that the notion of our other cities being improved and expanded and made more like real cities is seen as a fringe notion that's laughed at, as the prevailing attitude seems to be that Dublin is our only real city and therefore deserves all the investment and attention and all those other cities are just glorified towns.
So, to the people who live in Cork, Limerick, Galway or Waterford (or Kilkenny if you consider that a city), what do you think should be done to improve your cities?
I'll go first:
Decentralise the economy by outsourcing civil service jobs away from Dublin and towards these cities, and encourage the development of new financial institutions in these cities to the point that hopefully one day they will rival Dublin.
Decentralise local politics by giving more power to city and county councils. Make the mayor of every city directly elected and reform their powers so that they actually have a function rather than being mostly just a figurehead role.
Build high density city centre housing. An elegantly designed apartment building could do this as well as adding a new landmark to a city- the waterfronts of Cork and Limerick could be something really amazing if they had this.
Build adequate public transport. Night buses in all cities to reduce anti social behaviour and drunk driving. Build a light rail system for Cork City and examine the feasibility of a similar system in the other cities, especially Limerick as it already has the infrastructure to do this easily. More pedestrianised streets in the suburbs and city centre wouldn't hurt either nor would more cycle lanes. For the cities that are too small for trains, just put in an actually functioning bus system instead, as there is in Belfast for example.
I know this is almost certainly a pipe dream, but I would love to see Cork host a major international event, like the Olympics maybe or a UN summit. Maybe someday.
What do you think?
I found out, they removed the Barnes & Nobles at Waterford lakes for Nike instead :/, I loved having that Barnes & Noble there.
Anne Valley is supposed to be nice but never been, seems like a great nature walk, I do enjoy walking on the Greenway but haven't been on it since it got colder. Tried the cove lane walk recently and it was pretty nice! Lovely views of the river.
As a Waterfordman really hoping for a Ballygunner win over Slaughtneil but I'm getting a bad feeling about this one. Parnell Park will suite Slaughtneil with them making the game a dog fight. They have more experience of the All Ireland series then Ballygunner would and have frightend teams in the past including Na Piarsigh and Ballyhale. Let's hope Ballygunner will get over the line and myself and many other Waterford fans will be up in Croke Park on the 12th Feb for a rare All-Ireland club final appearance for a Waterford club
In the other semi final it's difficult to see Ballyhale been beaten but never know. Shane Cooney will be a huge loss for St Thomas's
Just went through. Took no time at all. Have your MCP and Vax pass. Make sure you had your last dose before Aug 5
This was passed down to me from a family member and has never been used by either of us. I would estimate itβs about 10-15 years old. Where can I can take this to sell and can I get anything for it?
