104 years ago today, the great Arab nationalist Gamal Abdel Nasser was born in Alexandria.
During his time, Arab Socialism bettered the lives of workers in public enterprises and the state bureaucratic apparatus, who obtained stable employment and social benefits like health care and pensions. All Egyptians received subsidized basic commodities and free public education from kindergarten to university level, while children of workers and peasants gained much greater access to higher education.

A mistake we Syrians are still paying its price until today, the unitary with Egypt ruled by the dictator Gamal Abdel Nasser
The biggest crime committed against Syria and the Syrians were those who signed the unity agreement with Egypt.
They handed Syria a rich, industrial democracy to a fascist coup dictator who impoverished it, destroyed its economy, tore apart its economy, and turned it into a police state, then withdrew and left it an easy prey for the Baathists and the Assad family.
